£30+million on Rio or use that cash to buy 2-3 defenders?

This term glory-hunter. What exactly do you mean?
Normally I use the term when I refer to someone who jumps on a bandwagon when a club is performing well (hence Liverpool drew so many fans in the 70s and 80s, likewise United in the 90s). I guarantee you that is not me.
But 'glory hunter', as it quite obviously states 'is someone chasing glory' - no surprise there. So, if I support a team, naturally I want them to be successful - I want them to achieve this 'glory'.
You, my 'friend', are also a 'glory hunter' then for unless I'm mistaken you will want the best possible team, the most number of trophies for the club you support.
So, don't go around calling me a 'glory hunter' -take a look at every football fan who supports their club. They're all the same.
Yes, Sami Hyppia cost £2.6 million. He was an excellent purchase. How much did Solskjaer cost?
Yes Markus Babbel was free, yes Sol Campbell was free - how much money are they on a week? United were made aware that Campbell wanted to stay in London so didn't get involved.
United's youth system brought through Giggs, Beckham, Scholes, Butt, the Nevilles all around the same time. How likely is that to ever happen again?
I would like nothing more than United to go out there and find a gem or two at a bargain price.
But are you seriously telling me that if Liverpool bid £30m for Rio Ferdinand tomorrow you will be disappointed. Will you view him as an albatross around necks?
I sincerly doubt it.
You'll be hailing him as the best player ever etc, etc, etc. Pathetic.
Did you think Heskey was that £11m albatross when he went so long without scoring? (at the time that was quite a fee for Liverpool to be paying out) In the end that run probably cost Liverpool the championship when you think about it.
I would like the team I support to be as good as possible. I say if that means spending the money the club has, then so be it.
And by the way - you won't find me in any other club sites. I don't believe in taking cheap shots directly at other supporters unlike some people.

On a pale blue dot in space
Bridge for 8m
Mexes for 6m
Ayala for 14m

That is 28m for 1 starter (Ayala), 1 potential starter (Bridge 50% chance pushes Micky out the door), and 1 backup (Mexes). Mexes stays with Auxerre for the 02-03 season. Micky could rotate at CB/RB when Blanc is rested/injured. Bridge would start at LB during matches Micky starts at CB. Micky could be 4th choice at wing too.

Gazza---Ayala---Blanc---Micky
(Phil)(O'Shea)(Brown)(Bridge)

Sure there are, but we need a centerhalf and some of your options are... full backs.

I don't know, we can spend 15m on Ayala or twice that much on a much younger player who's likely to have less difficulties settling in.

The money mentioned with Ferdinand is crazy, but it might still be a great opportunity, if he can be signed.

Ayala is a very good choice. But it may be hindered by Kenyon's statement that we will not invest on any player over 28.
