Just read from the BBC site that the fee is £30 million that could rise to close to £40 million depending on Barcelona success. Too many rumours flying about to say what the fee is at the moment, but if it is £23 million

Rio Ferdinand was £30million, and Beckham is a far better player. They should at least be able to get £35million, but I think that's still too cheap.

Probably not a far better player, but obviously more well know and far more expirienced. 23m is a joke if we sell him for that kind of money I and many more will be pissed.

£23M + Puyol and Riquelme wouldn't be too bad a deal, but that amount of money on it's own is an insult.

Sell the lad by all means if it's in the clubs best interests, but for Christs sakes get a decent price for him.

I don't know how you can compare a midfielder with a defender and judge who's better, but anyway, yes, 23 is insane.

However, I don't think we really intend to sell to Barca... I can't see Real letting this go without putting in a bid (if only to feck off Barca), which could potentially trigger a bidding war.

Manchester United tax. Fun, isn't it?

It happens in part because of Fergie's transfer attitude; when he decides he wants a particular player, he will pursue at any cost (and other clubs know they can raise it at will, because we can pay), and when he decides he wants a big name out, he really wants them gone (and might be made to accept less for him).

It's not the colour of your shirt that counts, it'
This is the start of the bidding, there is no way Beckham will go to Barca, unless forced out. I expect Real to come in with a cash + player offer which will be more acceptable, and maybe AC Milan or Juventus will join in. But if we setttle for £23 million then we are being ripped off. But a report on the BBC web site says that the fee is £30 m + a further £10 m if Barca have a decent Euro campaign, now were talking.

Finally someone else sees the way I've been seeing for years!

If we all bother to notice, it's always the same football agent being used, regardless - I won't be surprised if there's more than meets the eye! :(

stoned.rose is quite right about the figure of £23 mil being bandied around as reported by The Times:

"The fee is understood to be about £23 million, rising to £30 million based on trophies, which itself shows that United are happy to sell their most marketable player at a less than extortionate price. "

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/newspaper/0,,172-709844,00.html

So another case of buy expensive & sell
cheap? :(

I think it can't be true. I'll be very surprised if we let him go for anything less than 33mil.

I've read from somewhere that the deal will come to 23 million + Kluivert. Then we will also get Ronaldinho with the cash we recieve. If that's true, then we will have +/-10 million left (plus our transfer budget and money from other players sold perhaps 10-13 million or so)to buy a right winger, a defender, and a GK.

£23 million and Kluivert ! I read somewhere that Kluivert could go for about £1.5 million ! So if Becks is valued at £30 million where's the other £5.5 million going .... the agents?

You never know... stranger things have happened. A few years ago, who would have thought that we would willingly sell one of our most priced assets to our biggest rivals. It's like Henry joining us from Arse this summer. Far fetch but anything is possible. By the way, it the Kluivert thing was mentioned by a few web sites.

It's possible that both Real and Milan will offer player plus cash. Apparently we are interested in some players from these clubs (Makalele, Shevchenko, Gattuso etc.)

Kluivert only goes for 1.5m if barcelona tells him they want to lower his wages.
