[Manchester United striker Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seems likely to miss the rest of the season after discovering he needs another knee operation.
The Norwegian had hoped to make his return for United's reserves on Thursday after missing his initial intended comeback date last week.

But the 30-year-old now faces more time on the sidelines.

"It's a very serious injury and we must be patient," said Solskjaer's agent Jim Solbakken.

Solskjaer has not played for United since September, missing 25 matches in the process.

The striker had an operation on his cartilage on 23 September, but now needs another exploratory operation and Solbakken warned it may be several more months before the problem is resolved.

"It can take three months to heal, or even a year," he said.

"Ole's injury is similar to the one that ended (former Manchester City and Norway midfielder) Alf-Inge Haaland's career.

"That doesn't mean it will happen with Ole, but no-one will really know anything until the doctors have another look inside his knee."

Solskjaer's continued absence has been partially offset by the capture of Louis Saha from Fulham.

But United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hoped to use the Norwegian more in the right-sided midfield role where he excelled last season. ]

If true, the saddest start to the New Year for me, football-wise! :(

Hope United can cope with this loss!
