Hugely important goal v Arsenal in the league and a penalty in the CL final in 2008.
> implying thats worth £17m.

Dean Ashton @ like £9m proved to be a huge waste for West Ham, this was just a disaster, however good he looked at times down the right. Respect for his good world cups when other "elite" England players clearly didn't show up though.

The strange thing is that when he hobbled off last time Phelan said it was his hamstring not a recurrence of the knee issues, yet we have heard nothing since.

Very sad and tragic for the lad, if the news are true. I really hoped he was going to come back and play a part for us.

When fit, he was really superb for us - will be remembered for that free-kick v Arsenal and that penalty v Chelsea in 2008.

I wasn't implying anything. The fact remains he played a part in our double winning season and in winning the European cup 50 years after Munich. It's very unfortunate how things have panned out for him (and us) since.

Nobody seems to know exactly if, and if so the details of, any insurance policies clubs have for cases like Hargreaves and Ashton.

Even if it is a goal.com article, one of the things I expect to happen this summer is for Hargreaves to leave United. It's time for a fresh start for both parties. On a personal level, I would hope he could play again but it's time for United to bring in someone new and stop flogging a dead horse.

Sadly I have to agree with this , time for United to cut there losses.
I hope Hargreaves does play again but it does not look good for the lad ,shame because when fit he was a cracking player.

Of course he'll be off in the Summer, who could possibly doubt that?

Have his wages ever been confirmed? With him, VDS and Neville on the move we will be clearing out a large amount of our wage bill I reckon. I'm guessing atleast 200k a week between all 3?

I can't see Nevilles as being 70k, surely? That'd be crazy at his age.

Scholes and Giggs are probably still in 80kish despite their age, probably a bit much.

Hope, We Lose
Its highly unlikely we'd want to offer him a new contract so goal or not, its very likely that we'll let him leave for free. And we've all known that for some time
