The difference is in compensation, English clubs poach players under 17 in most other European leagues since labor laws prevent them from entering into professional contracts until then. Hence, clubs (Like Arsenal) can come in and swoop academy pearls for a pittance and then flip them in a few years time for millions.

    This is indeed quite intriguing as most of us focus on the regular summer transfers without wondering why some clubs consistently come up with good young players, not neccesserily from their own academy.

    Alexis Sanchez? I thought his career path was fine even at Barca but changes were desired, specifically a prototypical #9 - hence Suarez
