Chelsea are ready to win the race for AS Roma defender Walter Samuel.
The Mirror says Chelsea will splash £15 million on the Argentina international in the summer, who will arrive as a replacement for club captain Marcel Desailly.

Samuel said: "I would like to play in London.

"I've spent four seasons in Rome and have already been a champion here. Now I would like to look for a new horizon."

15m is pretty freakin cheap for this fella, very good defender

Now Walter Samuel is one player who I'd really like to see at OT.

Not only is he a class player (at CB & LB), but hard as shit with it, - described by Batistuta as "the hardest player I've ever come across in my career".

He's exactly what our team is missing at the moment.

Since Chelski beat us to the signature of Parker and Robben I feel its now pay back time.

We should definately bring this fellow to United. He is an amazing defender not just on the ground but also in the air.

Weather Rio stays or not is a different issue altogether. We need a rock at the back and a great depth in our squad. Ideally we should play Wes Brown alongside Samuel with Mickey at LB and JOS at RB.

Makes a change, usually its United being linked to every player under the sun.
