Music 100 Greatest Irish Songs

I was referring to the Ginger Prince, totally missed that other one being in there.
It’s ok, I knew what you were referring to

In fairness Sheeran has Irish roots and used to visit my home town every summer to visit his granny before he become mega famous

Agreed, both should be much lower.

Also, where the feck is B'Witched ?
I think these voters are failing to really value Ireland's cheesy pop tunes. There are some but there's quite a few omissions and some are really lower than I would have them.

It's not like the stuff they are losing out to is all high fecking art either, there's plenty of equally generic shite on there, just of a different flavour.

EDIT - I think what I'm getting at is that Ireland is a nation of pretentious wankers who think dreary paint by numbers folk music is inherently better than The Corrs.

The same people like both in my experience. Music for people who don't like music but think they do.

Endless Art and Gloria should be there. Troy and The last Day of our Acquaintance. There should be way more Van too. My Bloody Valentine, maybe. More Lizzy. Not sure Rory should be there, as amazing as he was, he didn't write great songs.

Yeah a shit list.

I believe the first interaction I had with you was you telling twenty two year old me to get better friends after I complained mine didn't get my obscure hipster music tastes

That definitely sounds like the complete wanker I am.

While we are at it, the Debut A House album, On Our Big Fat Merry Go Round, is, in my opinion, the most absurdly overlooked Irish album. Perfect 3-minute indie punk pop, not a bad track on it.

His music's not for me but he seems a likeable fella, outside of the plagiarism thing.

Some absolute shite in there and recent ones that won't get a look in I'm 10 years.

Feckin Kingfisher ahead of Fairytale of New York

Can't agree with Zombie as number 1. Riding on the coattails of the recent upsurge in popularity after being sung at the rugby I'd say. Again it'd drop down a bit in a few years time. I'd have Sinéad as number 1 all day.

Not hugely surprising though, given who voted, and it's nice to see Friends in time and Heyday in there.

Paint by numbers pop folk is better than paint by numbers dreary folk... gotcha

The whole top 10 should have just been The Corrs.

I'm listening to the top 100 Irish songs of the Twentieth Century and yeah do so last few years.
Much better top 100

It's on RTE Gold. Of course The Golden Horde right up there and rightly so 'True Friends in Time'.Only recently found out it was Maria McKee backing vocals on it.

Their top 10 featured two from Lizzy, The Four of us Mary, Ratrap, Dearg Doom, The Voyage Christy Moore, Nothing compares, With or without you at no2 and no1 Teenage Kicks.

Never heard of these Kingfishr lads but I find the fact that one of has the nickname 'McGoo' deeply troubling.

Had no idea Ash were Irish. "Burn Baby Burn" my favourite by them.

The list needs far more Van Morrison, far higher

Linger is the greatest song of all time and should therefore be #1 on this list. That intro, that violin. So dreamy
