IMHO the list is very incomplete and has a lot of movies missing
Alan Parker movies (fame, birdie, Mississippi burning, pink floyd the wall)
And off the top of my head
Life is beautiful (Benigni)
Deep Throat (a porn classic)
The warriors
Two rotten scoundrels

Looks like my exclusive diet of Jason Statham movies free on Hulu isn't really helping with this score.

I have an old master watch list that I followed for a few years, made up of a bunch of film lists from various places (BBC, AFI, Channel 4 100, guardian 1000, Empire, bfi, They Shoot Films, Cult Movies, redcafe, 101 genres, 1001). These lists intersect a lot, and this one covers the general film canon pretty strictly. The few I haven't seen are most likely later additions.

So it isn't a massive coincidence, if that was your fear. It was simply that I was more or less following the list.

126 or 13%. I've barely seen anything from the first half of the 20th century, let alone all those pre-1930 movies. I've seen Metropolis out of curiosity but I can't imagine myself watching a bunch more of these movies.

I see. Can you share the other list?

88. I'm not exactly a film buff - but I'm surprised I had more on this than on the video game list. Though basically half of that was Nintendo and I never had a Nintendo console in my life so perhaps it's not that surprising.

277, beyond the biggest names I haven't seen many from the first half of the 20th century. I want to but it's just finding the time.

The first movie I had seen on the list was Strangers on a Train.

I was prepared to barely break 100 and it seems like I was right.

A lot of mediocre movies on that list. Also missing a lot of great animated movies, imo.

Loads on that lists that I need to see. But finding the time?! I watch crap these days to be honest.

I'd love to know which are them, not kidding
Netflix mate.

Well, not so much for classic movies. Outside torrents (which we of course all condemn and I absolutely never used for my own purposes), I used to download a lot of stuff off archive.org. Copyright has expired for lots of old films, and you can find them there.

Finishing this list is a pretty common goal for many film buffs but I've never really payed much attention to it, instead focusing on the TSPDT, Sight&Sound and Jonathan Rosenbaum essentials lists.

The likes of Crazy Rich Asians, Avengers and Vice won't be on it for long. Every year there's a new edition of the book with the popular films of the year added, presumably in order to sell more books. Usually it's popular films of a few years ago that ends up making way.
