1999 Champions League final match thread

The one thing that stood out for me watching the full match back was how even the contest was. Yes Bayern had some great chances to score a 2nd goal and only 1 more goal probably would have ended the game for United but the idea that Bayern dominated the game was myth.

On a slightly different note, it's always annoyed me how we didnt go and dominate Europe after 99.

You look back at the summer of 99 and we signed Bosnich, Silvestre, Fortune and Taibi...

Only 1 of those had any real long term impact.

There was some evidence in the final that we needed stronger cover for the midfield in the absence of Keane and Scholes and cover for Giggs on the left. Perhaps another centre back was needed aswell, alongside a world class keeper (imagine if we had signed Van Der Sar earlier...)

We had won the league by Easter in the next 2 seasons but looked well short at times in the Champions League in those seasons...
