Except some usual Republican voters won't vote for MAGA candidates - especially now after what happened to the Capitol. These voters may be small percentage of the total Republican vote, but small percentages are often all it takes to lose elections. And independents will now be less likely to vote for MAGA candidates.

The blunt fact is that the MAGA base is not enough for the GOP to win the elections they need to win - but it's the MAGA delusion that they are enough.

The GOP is essentially fecked for a generation either way, It's just that it'll be even more fecked if MAGA takes them over wholesale.

While that's good as it would incapacitate the right (at least for a while), and force the Democrats back to the left (cause the leftover GOP would be more centre-right than the current GOP) - I would worry that the QTP (no, not Q-Tip - poor guy) would soon basically become a violent militia, a.k.a. domestic terrorist group. I mean, they would probably lose political influence pretty quickly, cause they would not be prepared to work with others or compromise and would scare anyone reasonable away. That would further entrench their feelings of disconnection to US society and worsen their violent impulses. A bit like an American RAF or IRA. That probably sounds overly dramatic, but after yesterday, I'm feeling a lot more negative about these things.
