2026 US Elections & Beyond

Interesting thanks. I did have a feeling her comments were made post October 7th but wasn't sure.

Her campaign does seems to be a utter shit show. AIPAC is a death sentence for Democratic candidates. Fully expecting it to do a full rebrand soon.
Yeah, they are already hiding behind other names and are allegedly closely affiliated with PACs that do not indicate an Israel connection at all. And I imagine they will allow candidates to be more stealthy about it as well. Like downplaying their Israel support during the campaigns, but then voting for every support package once they are in office. AIAPC are quite aware of Israel's diminishing standing in the US and will find a way.

Very encouraging numbers. Wild that Texas now seems more in play for Dems than Michigan. Hope they can keep the momentum.

Texas being a more winnable race for dems than Michigan doesn't make sense, but anything is possible, i suppose.

There is one thing that usually happens though, undecided voters in blue states tend to blue in the end, and in red states they tend to vote red, we will see what happens.
Michigan isn't really blue, but a lot more than Texas, at least.

More encouraging numbers for Dems, especially if Osborn wins and decides to caucus with them.

Yeah, this tug of war between the left and center of the party isn’t going anywhere. To be fair, he has some more mainstream endorsements as well, such as Warren, Van Hollen and a few other senators.

The centrist Dems could have found a more compelling candidate to oppose him. Stevens says some odd shit.

They had McMorrow. And decided to back the more extremist candidate in Stevens.

Fully expecting AIPAC to do a full rebrand soon.

That would be called J Street. The more "liberal" alternative to AIPAC. But both organizations fall short of what is needed.

She wasn’t really a good candidate either. If she had been, she could have overcome the democratic establishment siding with Stevens.

The problem these centrists have, is that they can’t run on meaningful change, because they don’t believe in it. So they end up saying inane shit like “I will fight for Michiganders” or “I will stand up to Donald Trump”.

If Talarico doesn't win, he will probably wind up the #1 choice for VP in 28

If he doesn't win, all he has on his resume as a politician is member of the Texas House of Representatives. That seems like a very small profile for a VP pick. He would probably get very little national attention after the Texas senate election day. He would have no Washington experience and no executive experience.

It would obviously also depend on who the POTUS nominee is, but it would be a huge stretch to pick someone like him for VP.

I don’t think it will matter given the amount of people presently in power with no government experience

62M spent, 32M by AIPAC.

I still don’t think Gaza was THE issue that sunk Harris, but it, and Israel in general, is becoming a millstone around the necks of candidates. Good.

Michigan is a lot tighter right now than some of the polling. But I'm not sure where the current votes are coming from.

Huh, thought that Abdul was supposed to win by 15 points or something according to the polling.

At least AIPAC lit a bunch of money on fire though, thats great.

This an awful result for AES. Massive poll lead that seems to have been complete BS. He'll need to change up the campaign now.

The only good thing from this is that a lot of money was wasted

Current margin is +1.7 but NYT predictions have it settling at 1.5

That’s only if you set your expectations after a few polls that over the last years have shown themselves to not be that trustworthy.

Another way to look at it is that he beat the establishment candidate that massively outspent him and who had the endorsement of a popular sitting governor in the state.

It's clear that El-Sayed has a hell of a lot of work to do before the general election now anyway. Will need a re-think and needs to build trust with black communities in Michigan quickly, by the looks of it.

Good to see McMorrow straight out with her endorsement and support for him.

the margin could be under 1% soon, NYT still has too close to call but also saying AES "likely to win", any chance this goes wrong still?

Did anyone ever see the double-digit poll leads as credible?
They threw the kitchen sink at him (PACs, Dem establishment, media etc).
Every big hitter endorsed his opponent.
He wasn't supposed to stand a chance.

It's probably not THE issue, but it correlates with other issues like economy which is a pretty big issue

He had been the favourite to win the primary for a while.
His hard work really starts now

The AIPAC spending definitely doesn't stop here. They wanted two Israel-aligned candidates up against each other, but likely won't get it. Now they will just pour the money into ads on behalf of Mike Rogers instead of Haley Stevens.

Speaking of which, while polling looks rather good for dems overall right now, but AIPAC, Musk, the RNC and so on will be flooding the midterms with money in a month or two.

Individual dems seem to do well on fundraising, which is good, but they are left rather alone aren't they? Last i've heard the DNC were in debt.

 what are you talking about
The polling that was coming out had him leading Stevens for the last while. Betting markets had him as a big favourite too.
The Republican attacks will be much stronger against him than anything he faced in the primary.

Yeah, there's one party that is far more willing to bow down to corporate interests and the Israel lobby. The RNC will have cash to burn.

There are also plenty of stories right now about Ken Martin is mismanaging the DNC. Dem candidates are up against in on finances, but have the tailwind of an enormously unpopular president.

Polling is crap and a pseudoscience. Going on money spent, and establishment backing, there is simply no way he should have been viewed as a favorite.

And I think it'll be easier for him to pivot to making the general case about the economy and Trump. Plus he should have the party infrastructure behind him. Slotkin won the state by a sliver, I think that the result in the general will be similar

Very cool

Who the favourite is to me is about the likelihood of victory, not who has had the most money spent or the backing of a certain cohort.

Hope you are right on that, I don't think it will be easier for him.

In other news, I see that Cori Bush has taken her defeat in Missouri about as well you would expect her to.
