vs

Team PNut

Falling back to 433 for this game due to losing Cafu there is a need for extra threat out wide.

The defence has obviously been weakened due to losing Cafu, but adding Tassotti is the closest you're going to get for being solid defensively and being able to support attacks down that flank.

The midfield has been rotated slightly here with Cerezo dropping out due to the 442 not needing 2 defensive midfielders we can demand more control in the midfield rather than just shutting down the area. Zico still has the platform to pull the strings and run the game in a 3v2 situation.

The attack is now spread wider to stop the full backs bombing on. CR7 vs Neville is a bad mismatch, whilst Julinho can keep Maldini from tucking in too tight and aiding his CBs.

Team Indnyc

A change in tactics from a traditional 4-4-2 to a slightly unconventional 3-4-3. Samuel Eto'o and Ruud come in to the side.

The two main threats of the opponent are Zico and C. Ronaldo. To counter this, Maldini moves to RCB/RB and of course will get support from Beckham in the defensive phase.

Macherano comes into the side to man mark Zico following him both in midfield and defense. Macherano has played both CB and DM so is ideally suited for this role. He will also get support from Clodoaldo to cover the midfield.

Beckham and Giggs continue on the wings. Pele is given a free role to wreck havoc with 2 outstanding finishers in front of him.

Not sold on Indnyc formation.
- Maldini as LCB.
- Giggs and Beckham had their best with a fullback behind them.

If you are playing old school wingers, why not put a team that utilizes width? Not really a good use of the players at his disposal.
Despite a good matchup in name, I see Ronaldo having the upper hand all game! He has a great attack, but I don't see him having the ball/possession to make it count.

First thoughts

With Mascherano dropping back you've got Maldini almost playing as a RB and Chiellini as a LB.

Neither are prime positions when dealing with pacey wingers.

Mascherano dropping back also leaves so much space in the middle of the park for Effenberg to dictate the game, with Kante doing a lot of the running for him.

My weakest point is LB, and here he's not being double teamed all game and can concentrate on staying tight to Becks with no other threat down that side.

Given the lack of attacking prowess in P-Nut's fullbacks, they really will be playing as wingers here. Won't have to drop deep too much, just keep an eye on those defensive fullbacks which both have the workrate to do.

That would leave a 3 v 3 in defence which would mean Maldini and Bonnuci playing as full backs a lot of the time. Maldini as a RB at that.

I don't have an issue with Maldini anywhere across the defense, especially in a purely defensive assignment.

Having said that Cristiano is one of the truly impossible to mark players, but it will be a great match-up that. Zico --> Cristiano has goal(s) written all over it.

I think it was a clever ploy to switch Maldini to the right as you have the best defender dealing with the opposition's biggest threat. It makes the whole "CR7 vs Neville is a bad mismatch" thing null and void. Only question is if Becks and Giggs can help out the midfield enough to not get overrun when Mascherano tracks Zico.

It works if Maldini is willing to track him wide, but do you really want your best defender being dragged to the most foreign position in the defensive line to him.

It also leaves Clodado with a huge space to cover in the middle of the park, assuming Mascherano is going to drop in and help the defence, rather than it constantly being 1v1 across the defensive line.

Say Julinho beats Bonnuci 1v1, which would likely happen a good few times due to how wide he's going to have to cover. You suddenly have CR7 at the back post with Maldini needing to stay with him. Benzema marked by Tresor, and Mascherano picking up the incoming Julinho.

That leaves Clodado having to be on the toes of Zico every time otherwise he's completely free. Do you really see that happening every single time.

If not the defence shuffles over 1 to cover the centre and leaves CR7 free at the back post. Either way there are some easy routes to goal here.

@Indnyc

How much of the ball are you intending to have? Are you playing on the counter or in a more possession way?
