Don't think this has got enough attention. Ole's record at the top level is awful. 7 in 11 is not even amateur stuff. His record domestically is very good in comparison. Why is there such a disparity between the results in Europe and domestic league/cup football?

Well to put things into perspective off the 11 games. 4 were against PSG, 2 against Barcelona and 2 against a strong Leipzig side. Still a shambolic record. Hopefully he improves on it.

Yes I can hear you Clem Fandango!
2 losses against PSG

2 losses against Barcelona with Messi

With the team we had when we played them we were underdogs I would think.

The other three were not great though.

Are the other 4 games victories? We beat Leipzig at home and PSG away. What were the other two?

bit of a red herring of a stat given where we started and how much better the stats are if you include Europa. Still a few bad results in there though, the worst part of oles couple of years

Still, he lost 5 out of those 8 matches. And even worse, vs the 'easier' teams (that Turkish team and Young Boys), he lost 2 out of 3.

It is beyond shambolic. Only one so-called big club would have tolerated this.

We've played PSG 4 times, 2 wins 2 losses - a fair record.

We've played RB Leipzig 2 times, 1 win 1 loss - not great, but it happens.

We've played Barca 2 times, both losses - this was when we had a shit squad, and Messi was still at Barca.

We've played Istabul 2 times, 1 win 1 loss - that loss was catastrophic.

We've played Young Boys once, and lost - an unfortunate loss due to a red card, and a brainless moment from Lingard.

It's not great, but hyperbole always makes things seem worse.

Agree. It is a shambolic record. And if he doesn't improve on it we may be having ronaldo and varane play europa.

And one of the PSG defeats was cancelled by the fact we won away and put them out.

It’s not great, but that record is really skewed by him only being in charge for knock out games in 2019 and a really tough group last year. I’m going to go out on a limb and say no teams last 11 fixtures in the champions league look like that.

The two losses against Barca, the first one at home was actually a tight game. The one at Camp Nou we lost control pretty quickly after the first goal. They were declining but still very good, and should have reached/won the final after destroying Liverpool in the first leg.

It feels exponentially more frustrating to lose games when the tactical plan was to sit too deep and try and steal a win, especially when we have the talent we do at our disposal. So for me the 2 that really stick in the craw was today and Leipzig away. The others there was mistakes or just outclassed but at lease we gave it a go.

Needs to just manage the game simple think he over complicates everything.

No real need to go to a back 5 tonight was there just play 4-4-1 keep things tight and hope Ronaldo can snatch a win for you if not fair enough..

The issue is loss to istanbul and young boys don't make a good look. I am worried we may have another loss to atalanta or Villarreal. We have again put unnecessary pressure on ourselves.

We got beat by the worst team in our group last season. And again tonight. So maybe that elusive CL consistency is within our grasp?
Right, so the loss to Istanbul was just inexcusable. Tonight's loss would be unfair to put on Ole 100% (he didn't ask Lingard to make that boneheaded pass). Losses to a star studded PSG 2 years ago... Expected as we were not on that level yet. I'm sure there are some of the 7 losses that should be expected wins but was just looking for more context than "4 out of 11, for Manchester United this is inexcusable" (sounds good but we aren't owed a great CL record)

Such a disappointing result. Feel for Lingard as I’m sure he’ll get some abuse after that, but this is all on Ole

Just looking through those performances and most were awful too. Even that first PSG game we got absolutely battered and only snuck through via goalkeeper errors and a late penalty. It's not like we were unlucky in our losses, we were definitely lucky in our PSG and Leipzig wins.

Yeah, I saw it there and thought it could have easily been missed hence why I thought it deserved its own thread. It's just such a poor record. It's not like PSG and Barcelona were at the peak of their powers either.

2 losses vs Barca
1 vs PSG
2 playing with 10 men

So it is a bit misleading.

Losses that remain most frustrating are Istanbul and Leipzig, especially first one. If we don't improve our CL record Ole will be sacked and rightfully so.

WTF  only one big club would’ve tolerated losing two games away from home in Europe (one in turkey and one when down to 10 men on astroturf) ?

Seriously?

Nah, he's not going anywhere. If he fecked up last season in a scenario where it was easier to go through than to go out and then to top it off lost to Villarreal in the consolation cup and still got away with it, then the Glazers don't really care what happens in Europe.
