His first touch and control isn’t that bad to be honest, you rarely see him have a bad or heavy touch even with an opposition player around him.

Having said that, the weird and uncomfortable way he moves with the ball and what he does with it don’t really fill me up with confidence in his ability to contribute in the final 3rd. Although he has had a couple of assists after the restart.

He just didn't look fit at all since restart. Concentration was also lacking as he was getting caught out of position a lot of time. The way we play also doesn't suit him.

It's quite weird we bought him for 50m when he doesn't fit the type of football we want to play. You can see how much difference Shaw makes to our play, we have effectively gone to shit since he has been injured. FB is important part in our play and I am not sure if AWB is the long term answer

His first touch is mediocre at best. He cannot even trap the ball, on every game, there is a simple pass that he manages to not trap.

I actually think his play in the final 3rd is fine, as he is solid at putting crosses into the box and can beat a man to do so. However, his play in the build up of an attack from the back or in the middle 3rd of the pitch is worryingly poor, and is part of what makes us so easy to press.

The most awkward looking player I have ever seen at this level when he is doing something with a ball other than tackling of course.

I feel like going to fall over just by looking at him. He is still young. So hopefully.

Very good season. I like him a lot even though he’s no Obi wan Kenobi. His name in the tab everytime I open this page suits him well. He’s closed down that right flank many games. Would be nice to have some statistics on what side United has conceded most goals this season. Where the key pass came from.

There are multiple times a game where he has a bad touch. A game will not pass where he has to lunge to make up for a poor touch to stop the opposition taking advantage of it.

I agree, the first time I saw him was when he played against us, he and Vaanholt ripped us apart that night and in an attacking sense I recall them being very good. They destroyed Young and Valencia who were our fullbacks.

However I watch him now and it’s like watching Bambi on ice. it’s just so weird and unnatural looking. Nothing is smooth, it’s all choppy and heavy movements.

Yesterday there was a run he did, all of a sudden he had an injection of pace and really drove with the ball got us forward then he tried to play a lazy pass to Greenwood and it fell short. intercepted and then we are defending.

I just can’t decide if he’ll ever get better at that side of the game. I think he can and will improve in defence but I don’t think much can be done about the offensive side.

I'm saying he's a big part of our team, if you don't like watching him you're best off watching someone else. He's going to be here, you dont have to be
This is just rude, Mr Top red.

Quite the opposite. Firstly, rude would be saying "its painful watching him with the ball" like the poster. Secondly if it is painful for him, I provided the only solution that will work - watching another team. You just ignored someone in pain, thats very rude

Bissaka had 4 goal contributions in 44 games (4 assists).

Luke Shaw had 3 (1G+2A) in 33 games (same per game figure), and Williams had 2 in 33 games (1G+1A).

So while Bissaka’s numbers are low, they are not worse than what our other full backs provide...

You understood his point, and am sure you'd prefer if he was less awkward on the ball.
At the end of the day, we are all fans who want what's best for the club and we can't have the same opinion all the time, but suggesting someone supports or watch at another team is not good form. That's my opinion anyway.

Shaw helps with the build up and despite his low number of goal contribution he helps tremendously in attack with the overlapping runs lately or tucking inside thus affording Rashford more space to operate in. With Shaw around Rashford doesn't have to come deep to receive the ball because he's capable of successfully building our play from the back, something AWB can't.

This is true. Still, Bissaka is by no means the most problematic issue we now face in relation to squad. He is at least a specialist player (one of the best tacklers in the world And very good defender in general - it is also important).

First touch, control and dribbling are all fine. It's forward passing, forward runs and crossing (that he never does it) that's weak. Basically anything that requires initiative at his end. Feels like he's always trying to survive being in attack.

Bingo. Luke Shaw's ability to link up and even playmake from left back is miles better.

Tbf AWB improved his game then like whole team he struggled to do basics right at the end of the season. He backs himself to take on players and has good record but he should be back himself to go for more crosses, he has decent technique but for some reason he make same move to cross the ball, goes to byline even when he gets space.

He's nailed on to become a CB in the future right? He reminds me of when we used to play Smalling at RB.

I'm going to start this by saying that the fake Maldini quote that if you have to make a tackle you've already made a mistake is bollocks.

However I do think he needs to work on when to tackle and when to just usher a player into another area of the pitch. He is a phenomenal tackler no doubt but sometimes he goes to ground and despite being successful it just knocks the ball to another opposition player and now our player is on the ground.

This happened in the Leicester game yesterday. They had it on the left side of our midfield and AWB was pushing him inside but then he made a tackle which basically acted as a nice pass to another Leciester player and they had an attack from it.

He never looks fully in control of the ball. He showed glimpses of good attacking play this season but it hasnt been consistent. I think he can become more consistent though. If not, then he should adapt to being a RCB.

I hope he can improve on the right side especially going forward with regards to dribbling. Or at least his passing. One of the two
He gets so much space out wide, that we need somebody out there to take advantage of it. So many times he could have eaten the space and had a defender commit. Instead he didnt. And at times, he could have made a pass and it wasnt a difficult pass for a top team player to make but he fumbled it. Maybe its fatigue? Maybe its not? Cos ive seen him make it at times, and other times not make it.
Ive also seen him go forward and dribble so not sure why he refuses to do that at times, even if he loses the ball. Make the defender think one of the other could happen.

Anyway, overall a good season. Helped us defensively a lot especially in big games. Hopefully he improves a lot and gets to the next level. He got a few assists to his name, could have had more, but could get even further amount if he improves it.

I was thinking he would be great in a 3 man right sided cb position.

Not making excuses for him, he has been poor recently and of coruse his attacking play, especially decision making needs a lot of improvement....BUT with Greenwood in front of him he has had a player that is really a striker so often moving inside, no slight on Greenwood but he will be moving to a strike role longer term. I think with Sancho fro example in front of Bissaka he has a player that will stay out wide more, dribble and run at players and give him more space for overlaps rather than being slightly isolated.

He has had overall a very good first season, but of course there are a lot of improvement sto be made. ALways been a fan and think he has had a good debut season overall

AWB does look a bit awkward and there's no doubt he's been a bit off the last few games. I hope the coaching staff spend some with him during his rest period he's going to get to talk to him about staying under control and constantly go spider legs on us. I'd also like to see him work on his crossing technique.

But overall, I can't complain about his contribution.

He was obviously tired for a number of games near the end of the season and its his passing and wanting to be positive with it that are the issue when he has the ball. He's not that good a combination with Greenwood when Greenwood goes wide because he likes to mostly be simple in buildup play too and between them they dont make a huge amount of progress down the wing. Greenwood probably wants a bombing rightback with a good cross like Dalot, while AWB wants a winger who wants to try and make things happen like Sancho rather than one who sometimes doesnt have any more ideas than AWB does to get past the defending players.

Tbh our defence was third in the PL and he's the one I'm worried the least in our four defenders. That speak volumes imo.

A FB/WB is still a defender first and attacker second so for me he's good enough. At the moment it's basically impossible to find one that is really good in both anyway. Even Real Madrid in their galacticos days had to live with Arberloa.

To be fair, wing backs have been integral parts of attacking teams, almost like playmakers and then defenders. Liverpool’s defenders are not that great, but the entire gameplay is around them. Alves might have been the best RB in the last 15 years and was nothing special defending wise. Same for Alba as LB.

I think that saying RB/LB is primary a defender (and at times I have heard people that buildup and attack is just a bonus) is a very lazy statement nowadays. Especially for big clubs.

Our defence has improved immensely this season but people don't really seem to rate our best CB, our second best CB or even our GK. Does this say anything about how important this man is to our defence?

This guy is great so don't let his tiredness skew opinions post lockdown. Yes he needs to get better going forward but given how Williams looked in parts recently I think it's been down to instructions too from the coaching staff. Likely as we knew what we needed to do so didn't want to take as many risks. Both Williams and AWB were both bombing up and down pre covid and there has been a notable improvement in AWB. He even had an assist against Sheff United a few weeks ago.

He's a young player and will be fine.

It's easy to stomach his offensive play or lack of because he's so good defending one on one situations. Many times he drives him and I cannot believe he didn't give a could away.
That said, his offensive play will cause problems whether people like it or not. He needs to improve. Sancho is not a flying winger. He's a players that does a lot of his work in combinations. Look at how well we get out of tight spots on the left when Shaw combines with our forwards. He needs to develop that part of his game.

Despite all the shit he gets on here and twitter Wan-Bissaka's had a good first season at United. We knew when we bought him that he wasn't the finished product and he had to improve going forward. Let's see where he's at this time next year.

By saying Liverpool defenders I think you mean TAA and Robertson. TAA is mediocre at defense but his attacking output is phenomenal. It's a balance question between defense/attack value. If one is great enough you can forsake the other a bit. And do you really think we could buy or find someone of TAA attacking calibre ? That's just pure delusional.

And you're just completely wrong about Alves and Alba. They're very good defenders and excellent attackers. Problem is, at the moment it's just impossible to find such one. Do you happen to have anyone in mind?

The thing for me that skews the picture is a game like the Leicester game. He puts up excellent numbers on whoscored, which people use to make the argument that he's a brilliant right back. It's a fair opinion, but the reason he puts up those numbers is because he's scoring points on defensive actions like clearances, tackles and blocks. If he (and the rest of the defensive unit too, to be fair to him) were better in an attacking sense he wouldn't have to make as many defensive actions since we'd be on the front foot much more.

At least twice during the game he messed up an easy pass along the ground to the player in the no 10 position which was intercepted by Leicester and immediately turned into a counter-attack. That gives him an opportunity for a defensive intervention which increases his score, which will then lead to people claiming he's awesome because they just look at the stats without reflecting over them.

If he'd made that pass however, it would've taken away one defensive intervention and it'd only have been recorded as a successful pass, but it might have lead to us putting sustained pressure on Leicester for five minutes and maybe even a goal. We couldn't get control over the game and were on the back foot for large parts of the second half and that gave AWB the opportunity to get many interceptions, tackles and blocks in.
