New Manchester City boss Dr Sulaiman Al Fahim is considering a $240 million bid for Manchester United superstar Ronaldo during the next transfer window in January, Arabian Business can reveal.

Al Fahim – who through Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment has taken control of the club – has outlined his “dream team” in an interview to be published in Arabian Business magazine on Sunday.

The Hydra Properties CEO, who has already beaten Chelsea to the signature of Brazilian star Robinho in a $61mn swoop, revealed that snatching Ronaldo from arch rivals Manchester United is the top priority.

“Ronaldo has said he wants to play for the biggest club in the world, so we will see in January if he is serious.

"Real Madrid were estimating his value at $160 million but for a player like that, to actually get him, will cost a lot more, I would think $240 million.

"But why not? We are going to be the biggest club in the world, bigger than both Real Madrid and Manchester United.”

In the interview, conducted moments after the historic signing of the deal to buy the club, Al Fahim also reveals his wish list – Liverpool’s Fernando Torres and Arsenal’s Cesc Fabregas are also seen as potential targets.

“We’re not just going to spend money on anyone, but if we can get the biggest players in the world, and of course if the manager wants them, then we will get them,” he said.

It is thought a transfer fund totalling $450 million has been allocated for the next two seasons , by which time is “expected” that the club will be as successful on the pitch as Manchester United and Chelsea.

I would laugh but it isnt funny. We thought Chelsea were bad, these guys are even worse. They wont hesitate to spend absurd amounts of money like its nothing. Even Chelsea should fear their spending power. The only thing stopping them right now is that Man City is not an attractive proposition to top players. But in the next few years that could change aka Chelsea.

If these guys are that desperate for success, surely wouldn't it be better for them to buy out an already established club like United or Chelsea, or one of the other English/European giants than buying City and spending 500/600 million on improving it?!

Unless of course the thrill is in actually making a small club a giant...then different scenario

I read that City will cost them 247M.(don't know whether thats £'s or $'s or Euro.) Even with a £120M Transfer budget it is a lot less than what they would have to spend to get their greedy mitts on United. United would cost them £800M or so.

This guy has only arrived 5 minutes but is already flapping his gums. Manchester Shitty don't have a hope in hell of EVER being as big as ourselves or Real Madrid. feck off Abdul, leave these types of games to the big boys.

feck me. They can have him for that. Vidic can always break his legs in the Manchester Derby. Or we could just buy City with the money and close it.

They'll need a big name manager.

I can see Hughes getting a one year trial period only.

lincs.
This bloke sounds like a fecking lunatic.

Making huge bids for all the best players in the world is a way to signal intent, the whole of football will take notice and start taking them seriously ....... clubs will be tempted by such huge fees and the players with stupid wages and the promise of success ........ very similar to the way chelsea went about it, harder for City being outside London. Believe me this buch are anything but idiots.

Yeah, its like when you are playing a football manager game, it is more satisfying bringing a team up from obscurity. And lets be honest, City are nothing if not obscure.

For most people there is the PS2. For those with money to spend there is the PS3. And for oil tycoons there is Man City.

I don't think a lot of people realize just how crazy wealthy some of these Arabs are. When they do the global rich list it rarely has the Arabs because their assets are mainly private but many of them are in Bill Gates' league.

If these guys decide they are going to buy success they have the pockets to buy anyone.
