ABU watch

The Guardian has found shit-stirring with United chimes with their core audience. See any of their match report BTL when we lose.

They'll even endorse 'Surrey!' type insults, even though it really is just stigmatising people about where they are from.

A depressingly inconsistent news source directed by commercial demand.

Best avoided.
Grauaniad readers watch something as lumpenproletariat as football?

it's a working class sport after all, I'm more shocked that fancy feckers inheriting fortunes and writing for the likes of Telegraph pretend to follow football.
At least they watch rugby. Upper middle class Guardian readers will be more into the latest fitness fad.

Not surprised one bit to see the first article was written by Jonathan liew. I think he has found that writing anti United articles is guaranteed clicks and he probably genuinely dislikes us and so works amazing for him.
Yeah I can’t stand him - it’s like he read Barney Ronay’s work and thought, ‘I can do that’. Jonathan Wilson is also insufferable.

Being a left wing leaning Forum, anything from the Guardian is always lapped up, however much drivel they write and they write a lot of drivel.

Fair play to @DOTA for starting the Guardian thread in the CE Forum a while ago. Surprised you weren't hounded out for your anti Guardian agenda, tbh.

If I recall correctly Weaste immediately came after me for being a Tory cnut.

The Guardian is largely centre right drivel for middle class liberals who were left wing in their uni days.

Christ almighty, calling the Guardian right wing? I've seen some crazy posts, this is up there.

Well, if Comrade Marx says so, it must be true!
Not saying anything he said is true, but he did coin that term.

The Guardian has definitely turned rightward under the current editorial. I'd call it centrist more than just right-wing, but certainly not the lefty Marx-obsessed luvvie rag some confuse it with.

Give it a read, chief. Stay off the football pages, though. Awful.

I'd rather read the caf than the Guardian or any rag. Also, that paper is not more right wing

Nary a word when Chelsea won it finishing 10th in the league but of course now they give a toss

It's gotten worse since United have become shite yet we still somehow get more attention and coverage than any other club in the world. Our rivals can't stand it.

Winners of a 2nd tier competition getting access to the 1st tier seems about as logical a prize as I can think of, it's a great rule.

Have they an issue with the Conference League winners going into the Europa then ?

Getting into the CL for winning the Europa is a fair reward. 5th will be in the CL next year purely on the basis of the ranking of English teams within Europe

Gives the competition some legitimacy and viewing figures.
Who would care about it if nothing was at stake?

5th will be in the CL partially off the backs of United and Spurs doing well in the Europa League.

Exactly. I like the rule that stops the CL clubs dropping down - now that is something that used to favour the elite - but this is pure clickbait.

Should the winners of the championship be promoted to the premier league?! It’s elitism gone mad!

Yep. The winners getting into the CL and no more drop downs guarantees a different winner every year. Didn't Seville win it back to back and on both occasions they had dropped down from the CL

Not sure I understand the point he's making by mentioning clubs like Fulham, Brighton, Brentford, as if United or Spurs winning the Europa would be a feck you to them. There's a very, very slim chance any of those clubs will crack the top 4 anyway, but they could qualify for the Europa, win it, and play in the Champions League themselves. It seems like the opposite of elitism, as it gives a genuine pathway into the Champions League without having to finish top 4, opening the door for cubs outside of the established big 6.

Adding an incentive to win a 2nd tier trophy is exactly what 2nd tier trophies need, otherwise they will be dragging around their "mickey mouse cup" reputation forever, and clubs will deprioritise it over finishing as high as possible in the league.

It's simple as no one would give a toss about Europa league in Premier league if CL was not on offer. It's the only carrot that dangles in front of team s to be competitive!

Maybe in rest of Europe it has more pull I wouldn't know.

Yeah a quick google tells me it's happened a few times, Atleti, Gala, Seville, Feyenoord etc. says 8 times since the rule came in re drop downs.
Also agree with the idea FA cup win - Europa place, League Cup win = Europa Conference place

Downie is some cnut. I see some bitters are having meltdown on social media over the."bias" on TNT last night. TNT literally had Noel Gallagher on comms for a game

No surprise he's deleted it the wetwipe

And we have to put up with Sky LFC TV every week going silent on commentary for the YAWN anthem and putting in fake crowd noise to make Anfield louder.
