AFCON 2025

Egypt have been below average though. Ivory Coast have been decent
That's the way Egypt play though, especially under this current generation. They are extremely hard to beat and turn the game into a battle, Ivory Coast have looked a lot better but Egypt is never an easy game as proven time and time again in previous afcons.

What do you mean? He clearly got the ball first...you can't surely be suggesting a keeper has no right to punch the ball in his own box?

The standard of officiating in that game has left a really sour taste in the mouth. Morocco were by far the better team so the win was deserved but the refereeing bias was impossible to ignore.
Certainly wasn't clear at all - looked to me like the keeper takes out the player before the ball

If someone can post the replay then all can judge

I hope you’re right. Just because I want Amad back. If this tournament was at the end of the season then I’d be routing for Amad to win it.

I think Mazraoui would make a good DM. Would love to see him there first before we go to the market. Such an intelligent player with excellent ball control and understanding of space around him.
He did play some games as a DM back in Ajax, Morocco U23 and even in Morocco NT A team when Amrabat was injured.

Certainly the first time in our history that we're that affected by AFCON ?

Tbh first I was hoping early exits for our players so that we can have them back, but as long as they reach the quarter finals, I find it strange and cynical to get so worked up about our own players' misfortune over a matter of just one week unavailability (plus we have Mbeumo now).

At this stage, they (I mean Amad particularly) might as well go through and win the tournament for their morale and the purpose of a life accomplishment... especially knowing that they don't seem close to winning a (major) trophy at club level.

Anyway considering the bigger picture here, the AFCON trophy would be a huge morale and confidence boost, which ultimately would benefit us, while a major failure could affect the rest of the player's season.

Nigeria wasting huge chances. They are being much more dominant than I expected.

Quite a good start from Nigeria and should be ahead now with a bit of luck or Adams putting his chance away.

Still look vulnerable in defence with Bassey, Ajayi and Nwabali taking huge risks with Algerian players around.

Yeah but at the same time Algeria has been wholly inefficient going forward. They don't look fast enough to take advantage.

Been impressed by Nigeria’s fullbacks this tournament. Some of the crosses today from Bruno and Osayi has been superb.

Surprisingly two of their best RBs in Frederick and Aina did not make it to the tournament due to injuries.

Okay, I’m starting to believe.

Iwobi has been the player of the tournament so far. And Akor reminds me of Amokachi.

This has been so one-sided. Comfortable result so far for Nigeria.

Just realized Nigeria will not be at the WC. Based on this they will be dearly missed.

This could last two more hours and Algeria would still not score. Don't even mind the time wasting at this point.

Rooting for Ivory Coast - let's go Amad!

Their fans are great. I've almost forgiven them for 2 years ago

Egypt will be no pushover though

Nigeria not missing the WC was very well deserved and self inflicted. Unserious nation despite the talent (goes beyond football)

Dare I say Nigeria currently is better than the last AFCON. And they made the final.

Nice touch by Akor there after the controversial event in the Algera vs Congo game.

This has the potential to be a cracker. Egypt already ahead and don’t look like they’ll be sitting back.

One thing this Afcon has made made sure of is that Amad is the superior talent to Mbeumo and ironically he's getting punished for it by being relegated to a defensive role. Far more consistent even in difficult circumstances whereas Bryan tends to sometimes get lost when things are going against the team.
