Hardly embaressing. We were contacted, we enquired, and pulled out as we don’t want to commit to him permanently. Fair enough.
 
Well at least people didn’t get sucked in by a misrepresentation of the facts and proceed to lambast the club as a shambolic joke.

He was the perfect signing when we had Amorim. He’s more of a LWB so I’m not sure he’s the good buy that others are making out.
 
Is everyone just ignoring the fact that we did actually enquire for him today though?
 
Why did we not go for the obligation to buy for him? He was one of the best LBs at wolves if I remember rightly.

So we asked if we could have him, city said yes, and then we said no.

Couldn't we have done a Chelsea/Sancho with any obligation to buy? Not like city pay much attention to the rules anyway

It’s not, I think the problem is there are two streams of information coming from journalists.

One is that he was offered to us by his agent last week and that we turned it down because of an obligation to buy.

The second is that we made an enquiry today over a loan today.

It looks like both reports are correct and the journalists are being selective or are only partially informed.

I personally think we were right to not go any further with the deal, but there is still a lot that’s to be embarrassed about approaching your neighbourhood rivals for a player hours before the transfer deadline when we knew he was available a week ago.

You’re misinterpreting what happened for some reason. It’s not that complicated. We were offered the player, we enquired what the offer was with the club, we declined.
 
No one can compete with city and Arsenals squad depth this season.

I based my info on Ducker’s tweet combined with other tweets throughout the thread.

What you have said is essentially what I have said, I’m just saying that we were offered the player days ago and we enquired today.
 
He would be a good signing.

Of course City are never gonna give us a straight loan. Why would they?

We should have put in a permanent bid or obligation

That’s exactly the point. We didn’t say no straight away. If we had, fair play.

But apparently we’re the club with a plan. Everything is calculated, everything is deliberate, everything is supposedly part of this grand master plan that we mere peasants are just too impatient to understand.

And then, somehow, we end up chasing a player who wasn’t even part of the plan, change our minds about him three times, actually go into the deal… and get rejected.

“Fine, let’s do it.”
“Wait, no, forget it.”

Brilliant stuff. Truly elite-level planning.

It's the broader context which is embarrassing. We've known since last season that we needed a LB and we've failed at bringing one in. We're not gonna compete with City if we can even address the bare minimum squad weaknesses despite having a whole summer to do it.

Yeah, fair enough. In fact it's a good thing we don't want to commit to him permanently. We're probably planning a long-term Shaw replacement that we'll spend big on next summer (or even in January), and that will probably be Hall.

Utter nonsense and from what’s been said not what happened at all.

Don't really mind asking about a loan, considering his agents indicated he's on the market. It's just a bit amateur we'd ever think they'd loan him to us on deadline day, when they can just let us not have a left back for half a season, minimum. That would be probably worth the loan fee we'd offer.
 
what bothers me most is doing business with City. I know it’s not as important as it used to be, but rivalries is one of the things that makes football great and if we were to deal with them it would just be another case of football going from the peoples game to a sanitized, commercial sport that is run by billionaires.
