Constantly injured , someone posted his injury history in another thread this week and it is brutally bad. Class player but made of glass unfortunately
 
What could go wrong in signing an injury prone player, in a key position to upgrade.
 
Don't think we can afford to go for such an injury prone player in this position so no point in really discussing whether his quality is good enough
 
What couldn’t go right in not signing a fully fit player, in a non-priority position to downgrade.

He's missed 17 games in the last 2 seasons. People calling him injury prone is a classic case of misinterpretation of data.

He suffered ligament and tendon injuries 2-3 years ago. Injuries pretty common in young kids pushing themselves too much.

If he's missing an average of 9 games a season, yeah I'd take him.

He’s had some injuries (footballers tend to), but I’m not someone who automatically dismisses players who have had injuries. The devil is in the detail, injuries in the past do not mean injuries in the future by default. I remember having this conversation on here with someone two summers ago in relation to Michael Olise. Apparently, he had injured his hamstring in the past so should not be signed.

Ultimately, which is the same point I made regarding Olise - players have medicals for a reason. And it would be our responsibility to ensure we were satisfied before proceeding with any deal. But Balde is a player who could have that Kyle Walker fail-safe effect for us and can probably be signed relatively cheaply too. He’s a player who could allow us to play high and he (and Baleba) can pretty much ensure that we are not breached in transition.
 
The 2 worries id have are injuries obviously (but he's young and that can turn), and then size. Said it in the other thread, I don't usually obsess over physicality but I do want my back 4 to all be physical all rounders with pace & size & strength. He has pace but he's small, though this is more a problem focused on the center backs.

Ultimately, just get a left back in. Desperately.

If injuries are not the issue, why do you think Barcelona open to sell him?
 
I'm not 100% sure of the accuracy, but I did somewhere that flick was questioning his mentality

I think their financial issues are well known. For all the levers they pull, they still need to make sales pretty much every year to balance the books. I assume his wages, while reflective of a first team player there, would not be astronomically high so he would be easier to sell than some of the others.

They sell him then they still need to buy replacement who potentially will cost more in wages.

Barcelona just won La Liga, able to afford Rodri’s wages, big fees of Gordon, and released Lewandowski wages. This is not 2022-2024 all over again.

Naw, they'll just play Martin and Cancello. Fort can also play on the left. You can get away with it in Spain when your league only has a small number of decent teams

they already have cancelo and pesquer, another masia young player

Not necessarily. Cancelo’s back, Martin can play there, and Flick’s been using Pisker there in pre-season and apparently he’s done pretty well.
 
If Hall is definitely a no go this window, Balde on a season long loan could work if all parties are agreeable.

They’ll likely replace him with Salinas on lesser wage and for 1/3 of what Baldes sold for.

It would not be a hostile approach, like with Hall, the player is not first choice like Hall is either. The circumstances are very different.

A welcomed sale from a non PL club for a player considered expendable will not cost £70m for a full-back.

Then there’s the fact that the reports quote a figure of €40m as a starting point.

That's out of 117 competitive games too.

Basically he's missed 15% of games the last two seasons, and therefore been available for 85%. It's not the worst we've seen.

I do things there's probably red flags in that he's clearly never going to be bullet proof and United have a habit of making players injury problems worse... However if the price was reasonable and factored in the injury history, it might be worth a gamble. There's also the reality we need two left backs over the next 12 months anyway, once Shaw's contract expires.

How much would he cost and would that leave us in a realistic position to go sign a top left back next summer if we felt we needed to?

The bigger red flag would probably be Barca not thinking he's good enough.

I don't see a loan either, but considering English clubs (and Bayern/PSG/Madrid) are the only clubs with significant money to spend, maybe not that many teams need a left back, maybe because the player has been at Barca he'll feel he wants another big club - the amount of realistic suitors might be limited for Barca with only a week left. Hopefully that would leave us in a rare advantageous negotiating position and we don't get ripped off.

Why exactly?

Romano has already broke exclusive news this summer of a Barca player moving to an English club.

If he says we've been in contact with his agent, it's worth a thread. You can't discount the possibility of his signing just because you don't like the player.
