Isn't he just an injury waiting to happen?

Barely plays 30 games a season, would be a waste of money.

Last 4 seasons he hs played 42, 47, 28 and 44 games so only once under 40 games and that was 3 years ago. I think it is a moot point though as he seems to be completely disinterested in leaving Barca and they are not forcing him out.

Like a lot of transfer threads, I don't know why we're talking about a player we weren't interested in, who wasn't going anywhere and is now said to be staying put.
Flick and the Barca management basically were putting a rocket up this lads rear.
His agent started some rumours about possibly leaving and now the club have got what they probably wanted to achieve, in terms of discipline and commitment..
Where does Utd come into this?
Nowhere.
Move on......

Yeah had a look, I must be remembering a few years ago he had a pretty serious hamstring injury.

Surely the club has to move on now and find another target ASAP. It'll be stupid not learning again from the FDJ and Tchouaméni mistakes.

What Tchouaméni mistake?
We weren't in for him as he hasn't been put up for sale and there were no rumours that he wanted to leave.
It was just another load of press fairy tales.
Sure, if Tchouaméni had been offered for sale, Utd might have been interested, but this whole saga was just press and so-called ITK, froth.

I still think Tchou would have been for sale IF Rodri had moved to Madrid. But he didn't. After that dominos started to fall and we went to Baleba. Just my mutual feeling but i guess Tchouameni was our preferred target. And Baleba alternative. If Baleba was our first target, we would have likely made that deal earlier in summer.

Yeah pretty certain that was indeed the case

If we weren’t in for Tchouaméni then it proves that our board are very bad how they handled this transfer window because they could have sign Baleba before the pre-season started, but instead they waited too long for no reasons, signed him this week when Baleba already got injured in pre-season and he is now not available.

He was a player that did not want to leave Magreed.
Magreed did not want to sell the player.
We were never going to match the wages he was on at Magreed.
It cannot be any clearer that he was never going to come to us!

Would have been nice to see how far it got IF Rodri had done the right thing and joined Real though

What's up with spelling Madrid as Magreed?

That is just speculation and what ‘iffery though.
Imaginary plots and twists that have no basis in the real world.
Exactly the sort of nonsense that fills the press/ITK pages and posts.

As for Baleba, we don’t know and won’t know the timelines involved with his eventual move.
We could have been actively involved in the various stages to get a transfer underway, back in June.
We just don’t know and certainly the journos and professional rumour mongers wouldn’t either.

Oh dear!
Also, what have the “board” got to do with anything?
Do you know what or who the “board” is?

Is there any actual strong links to Balde? Or is it just rumours.

Is there any actual strong links to Balde? Or is it just rumours.

You have to first question what is meant by “links” or “linked”.
It doesn’t mean anything and is only a device used to fuel press or social media stories and speculation.

It became know that there had been some sort of dispute or issue with this player, at Barca.
Flick had issued some sort of ultimatum to Balde, over what is a matter of speculation and press rumours.
Someone, presumably Balde’s camp, or agent, put out rumours he could be up for grabs.
The journos, so-called ITK grifters etc, started “linking” him with possible clubs of which Utd was being pushed.
There being absolutely no basis for this, by the way.
Then we hear that Balde is not moving and whatever internal issues were in play at Barca, have been resolved.

At no point was there any real information that Utd were either interested in this player, or had even made any inquiries.

It’s just typical of the horseshit that floats around in transfer windows and gullible fans just lap it up like mugs.

You need to keep up with things more accurately if you’re going to post in absolutes.

Apparently Brighton wanted £80m plus at the start of the window according to tier ones. That was the key reason why United waited and ended up saving on the deal.

He supposedly wanted out of Barcelona and was being offered around by agents, but the suggestion was Barcelona wanted around £35-40m for him, while we were only prepared to sanction a loan signing. It could all be posturing, of course, but it does sound increasingly like we aren't prepared to spend more than a nominal fee on any other potential incomings this summer.

But all of that was just press/ITK conjecture.
A story that grew and was embellished with each iteration.
We will not know if any part of it was true, or accurate or anything.

I’m not sure how that logic works if we wait, we would get some saving. The longer we waited, the more resilient club will sell the player as they need to find replacement for one of their main midfielder in the late of the window.

I don’t remember tier ones reported that. But let’s say he was valued for £80m, we only got him for £10m cheaper. The club had good reason to ask for £10m cheaper since Baleba is injured and won’t be available for months. Value dropped due to player’s injury makes more sense than ‘’value dropped because we waited’.

Most of what I said was being reported by The Athletic, whose reports are as close to what can be believed by anyone during the transfer window. But I never claimed any of that was fact anyway, hence the use of the words supposedly, suggestion and posturing! Not sure what the issue is here.

£15m cheaper (you’re included add ons and the minimum £80m)

That’s a big saving. He’s available in weeks not months.

It seems you’re either very misinformed or being sensationalist.

I’m not sure if this is worth time to argue because we had seen all of these transfer the club asking for certain amount (for example 70m), the other club placed a bid of 65m plus 5m adds on to reach agreement of the 70m asking amount.
That’s a big saving. He’s available in weeks not months.
I said ‘’the club had good reason to ask for £10m cheaper since Baleba is injured and won’t be available for months’’, and we negotiated with Brighton in August. So he is missing the August and September, that’s ‘’months’’ not weeks

Sorry, nothing was meant go be directed at you.
The point being that much, if not most of what gets reported, or more accurately, speculated, is a mixture of half truths, extrapolation of the scant details known, mischief making by “interested parties”, or just plain made up.
Even the Atlantic is not immune to this.
They have to fill their news feeds like any other organisation or individual who seeks to make a living out of chit chat and gossip.
Where the Atlantic is closer to actual, real events…. and they are better than most, there is usually some substance or basis for their story, but quite often they are just part of the self feeding and self reinforcing gossip and rumour network, like all the others.

Personally speaking, I would ignore all such speculation and even more credible reporting, until an actual transfer deal is announced, or acknowledged to be close to closure by more reputable sources.
The rest is just a waste of everyone’s time, except for those who make money out the news/ gossip world.
The fact that fans get het up and agitated over these stories, is a rather sad reflection on the modern world.
Basically they are working for free….nothing… to line someone else’s pockets.

Yes, Andy Mitten said that on Talk of the Devils's podcast. He said United were quoted £80m at the start of the window.

I could be wrong, but i dont think we waited just to drive the price down. My guess was that we were waiting on how the dominos fall re Rodri going to Madrid and Tchouameni potentially making way, knowing Baleba was always in the back pocket having agreed personal terms last summer.

How do you know that Brighton didn't have their replacement lined up all along? They just signed a DM from Colombia today.

Who told you he wasn't unavailable for months? Carrick said "up to three weeks" in the friday presser.

You don't get a 15% discount just because a player is injured for a few weeks.

That's exactly what I said, but the other poster said we were never in for Tchouameni in comparison to Balde.

Signing player on 30th August or 31st August doesn't prove anything like that. But that's not the point.

The point is what is the logic if we wait, we would get some saving? Because the longer we waited, the more resilient club will sell the player as they need to find replacement for one of their main midfielder in the late of the window.

That wasn’t the case here though - Brighton already had the replacement in Malick Yalcouyé.

Don't know much about him but based on what I watched yesterday, he played in advanced role or as no 10 not Baleba's replacement. But then again it's irrelevant as the point is what is this logic if we wait until late of the window, we would get some saving?

He’s versatile, can play DM, CM, AM.

We were probably waiting to see how either potential deals played out as we knew we could go in for Baleba later if needed.

Why does this thread keeping bumping up? I thought its clear he has no desire to join?
