We are snapping up a lot of young talent lately. Glad to see we beat Dortmund for his signature :D :D

Great news,
Good policy to get the good kids in so we don’t get ripped off when we have to buy them as adults.

If he's their star boy, I'm surprised he left Atletico.

Aren't they very good at promoting and playing their own?

Or have I fallen for one of those myths, like "Pep is good at bringing through youth players" just because he was manager of Barcelona when they had Xavi, Iniesta, Messi?

Really like this policy of bringing in top talent from a young age. I know it’s something we’ve always done but it seems we are going better talent this summer even if it costs a fair fee.

We signed Mejia last year who was putting up similarly ridiculous numbers in Spain, but he hasn’t even got going yet due to injuries. Will be interesting to see who is the better of the two.

The few times Mejia has played, his name seems to pop on the scoresheet. I don't know about general performance, but he seems to have a knack for scoring goals.

It's definitely a combination of the Brexit effect and the fact we had a low intake of scholars this year, however, we seem to be focusing on quality which is always a good thing.

Another thing to note is this year the club are making a conscious effort to arrange a lot more U17 fixtures.

Think we are getting this done before Brexit happens. After that, we can only take 18 year old from Europe.

I'm in the process of re reading Sir Matt Busbys biography by Patrick Barclay and it's fascinating how much importance we had on bringing in the best young talent around; did the same thing under SAF. Over the last few years we seem to be going all out with this strategy again. There should be a really good time for United in the next 10 to 15 years.

That was quick, pretty sure someone on here was saying we will probably look to buy a striker for the youth team with the McNeil compensation issues.

It's good to bring in other Spanish kids so that the ones who are here don't feel isolated and the ones coming in, won't feel completely alienated either.

Ruud ftw
If one of them scores a practically title-winning injury time winner in the next couple of years then I'll take it

Looks another good forward prospect with Hugill and McNeil.

Do you think United have done this specifically to give us the best possible opportunity of finding our next number 9 from within? Given the current market and everyone clambering around after Haaland etc.

I don't believe we signed the 3 forwards with a view to finding our next #9 at first team level. These lads were signed as 16 years olds, who the recruitment department likely felt could be developed into first team players in the next 3 to 5 years, on the basis of their current potential. I do believe we'll end up signing a more established #9, but it was important for us as a club to revitalize our life blood (The Academy) which had fallen years behind our rivals.

I’ve been saying this for a while. All the youth transfers and then at first team level the free transfers, loans and odd contract extensions seem to be placeholders until a few of the lads break through. I thought the same thing with Matic Jones and Matas new deals. You mostly do that if you’ve got some serious youth coming though or you’re waiting for certain players to go up for sale. We need to start playing the likes of Hannibal and Amad next year or the youth will start piling up in the u23s. I think we are about to start seeing a fair few more loans out from next season on.
