Alex Scott

i think Fernandes could play the 6 and be very good in that role.....you have 4 quality players like alex, kobbie, bruno and matheus....much more solid than what we have right now and you mix in an academy guy or two
Feels like maybe

Anderson/Tchouaméni
Baleba
Kobbie
Bruno
Fernandes/him

Anderson, Scot, Fernandez any 2 would be good business, baleba plan b. Wharton has more creativity, depending on price and if we sell mount then Wharton should be a target, more plan c. I'm too optimistic since champions league is as good as done

Would put Tchouameni in there as well, however this guy provides another creative outlet to Bruno too which could prove crucial in games where it's not coming off for him.

Not going to lie. I have not seen much of him but in his highlight reels he looks twice the footballer compared to all the others we have been linked with in midfield

Him plus a top class Casemiro replacement would be fantastic.

Great thing about Scott is that he's not only really talented on the ball but he works very hard off the ball and is quite combative.

I agree. Tchouameni (or Baleba) and him I say.
I think the biggest issue which doesn't seem to get mentioned is that 2 still leaves us short assuming Ugarte goes.

Same number of midfielders as we have had this season with significantly more games. Mainoo has also shown he can pick up injuries quite frequently.

Yep. Which is way the latest reports of us only going for two are a bit concerning if we want to compete on all fronts next season

with needing two CM's i think the price tag for Anderson at over 100m is going to be too steep and city will pay it with Rodri money from Madrid

Tchouaméni then becomes surplus at Madrid but still wouldn't be cheap

I'd stick with two guys who know the league in Scott and Matheus that combined would probably cost(or damn close to it) what you would have to spend on Anderson

I love his dribbling ability. When is the last time we've had a central midfielder who can carry the ball forward like he can?

Old Giggs.

Mainoo obviously can dribble well, but he doesn't really carry the ball forward a ton.

Really impressed by Scott on the ball. Could see signing him and a post-Bruno midfield trio of Mainoo-DM-Scott being a nice fit if we moved to more of a 4-3-3, while for now it could be Scott and Mainoo rotating/fighting for a spot next to the more traditional DM we need to sign this summer already.

Yeah him, Tchouameni and Mainoo would be cool

This guy has most likely always been the best technical footballer at any club he's been at. He'd be a no brainer as a squad player who deserves a step up, he could really take to it. He's not replacing Casemiro, he's challenging Mainoo and kinda doing what Mount was supposed to do. I think he's a good player. Him or Fernandes are both excellent options

Yeah either would upgrade the technical quality

Oh, I disagree strongly. Casemiro is currently an 8 with a great defensive contribution (+ goals, mostly from set piece). That is Alex Scott to a tee.

My only issue with Alex Scott is that he can come of as quite nonchalant. He is at his best when he play with grit and is really aggressiv. It has been pointed out that he is a limited passer, but I think he will work that out.

Tchouameni is our first choice for no6 with Baleba as backup choice according to Whitwell and Mitten agrees. Scott if he comes to Utd won't be the CM who sits and screens Infront of the defense. That's either Tchouameni or Baleba.

Where does that leave Mainoo who has done well as a 6 recently?

We will have four CMs to swap around as needed, Mainoo plus Thwaites or fletcher. Then say it was tchouameni and Alex Scott as the new additions. Depending on instructions Mainoo and Scott could play as 6 or 8. Scott brings flexibility and a different skillset to what Mainoo has.

We need a variety of abilities in our central midfield to solve the various problems opposition teams will cause us over the season.

I think people get too hung up on who the starting two CMs in a double pivot would be.

Agreed. Tchouameni (or Baleba) and Alex would be very good additions to our midfield

His injury history worries me. I know it can go the RVN way and I would pray it did if he came here.

Scott and Garner would really help improve our midfield a lot.

I agree that would be a good pair to add. They would add pace, duel- and running power that our midfield need. Not sure it would «improve» considering what we lose, but will not do better than those two.

So no DM?

 Why are you so against it ?
Because it’s complete wishful thinking. There are no links. He just signed a new contract 2 months ago. We’d be paying a premium now of at least 30m more than we would have done if we had been interested in signing him in January, which we weren’t. We weren’t even in his ear telling him to hold off with Everton. There’s just nothing other then a collective pipe dream

Unfortunately all true but the hope is that we pivot to him as we did with Sesko last summer. Surely not paying the fees required for Anderson or Baleba…

Arent people allowed to say it would be a good option because it is unlikely? You have mentioned a few players that seems very unlikely too.

James Garner have been one of the best DMs in the Premier League this season. He is 25. Likely to represent England in that world cup this sumner and he has several qualities the club need. It is not that weird that people keep mentioning him.

But it’s a drum that’s thing being banged relentlessly in here, as I’ve already explained why you’re all banging your head up the wrong tree. When I mention someone if posters come back and say “thats not happening because..” I usually move on. I don’t keep mentioning the same name and over and over and over again without links. This is not a championship manager forum, it’s the transfer forum where we generally ask for links otherwise it’s hocus pocus

And im not debating the merits of the player. I think he’s a good player and I’d certainly take him. I’m talking about the pointlessness of continuing to mention him. Like the crowd that keep wanting to buy greenwood back. That’s not gonna happen either (for different reasons). It’s just pointless conversation

But if a link ever comes up to garner, have at it

Would also offer an upgrade at both fullback positions. Sorry @golden_blunder couldn’t resist…

I am confident he's young enough to overcome early injury issues, remember when they said Dembele hamstrings were so suspect and look at him now
