Alex Scott

Because it’s complete wishful thinking. There are no links. He just signed a new contract 2 months ago. We’d be paying a premium now of at least 30m more than we would have done if we had been interested in signing him in January, which we weren’t. We weren’t even in his ear telling him to hold off with Everton. There’s just nothing other then a collective pipe dream
To be fair, I'm not sure how many links there were to Mbeumo, Sesko and Lammens as of April 2025? Maybe Cunha was the only one we were being linked to quite heavily towards the end of last season. Neither was Baleba on anyone's radar until late in the summer window where suddenly we were interested but got priced out in the end.

There does tend to be players who come on our radar during the summer that we weren't aware of during the season, journos don't know everything particularly at this stage.

It's also not completely unlikely the club is that incompetent they hadn't decided who their main targets were, and that's why they've stupidly allowed Garner to sign a new deal unchallenged. It's also not completely unlikely Garner isn't our top target but we could fail to get our top target and have to go further down the list, which may contain Garner.

Everton were never selling mid-season realistically. If Garner is the best option for us, then it's better to look silly and sign him at a post-contract premium rather than sign a worse player instead just to avoid looking silly.

Sesko and Lammens was. Vaguely. But Mbeumo came abit out of the blue, I think. It is a fair point that the radio silence makes him appear unlikely. That being said, we do not know everything and no interest in a player at his level at his age with his qualities, at a team like Everton, would be very odd. Even more so when you consider his background.

Maybe his background works against him in this instance, that United don't want to buy their own academy player yet again, after the Pogba debacle. That being said, Garner seems to be the completely opposite character to Pogba.

What's stopping other top Clubs apart from United to register interest in Garner there hardly been any noise linking him away from Everton . Could it be the case he is just not that highly rated by wider footballing world .

Think this guy should be our #1 priority signing this summer. Looks better every time I watch him and has so much natural ability on the ball. Can drive it forward with ease. Only 22. Still slightly under the radar.

Who would you sign as the DM to partner him?

Obviously not by us and that is why we sold him cheap.

How good is his passing?

Agree. He's my first choice midfielder too

He signed a new 4 & a half year deal with Everton in January.

4-5 years ago? He was clearly a player who needed game time to develop (most players do) - didn’t mean we didn’t rate him, but he would t be the player he is now if he stayed.
He looked pretty good at Forest.
The club fecked up by letting him go but now we move on.

Been very good today. His passing too.
I can’t see why anyone in their right mind will spend 120m on Anderson when someone like this is available for 50-60m. I don’t see the gap in talent between them being worth the additional £60m.

Firstly, Anderson will not sell for £120mil.

Secondly, a club like United aiming to compete at the very highest level need to focus on getting the best player possible, not on penny-pinching. I like Scott, but Anderson is more impactful.
