'With all due respect, the wee club is going nowhere '

He's not at all wrong to be skeptical of their long term capabilities.

They qualified for the Champions League in his first season, then ended up bottom of their group and failed to qualify for Europe completely in his second. They only qualified for the CL again last season because other English clubs had done well in Europe and Forest absolutely shit the bed in the run-in. If Villa had remotely turned up against us on the last day they would have probably finished ahead of them too.

They've signed some decent players, but other than Tonali, I'm not really getting the impression that they're building to anything more than occasional challengers for a Champions League spot. Elanga is currently the only player they've signed this summer.

Because Salah exists.

So what? Isak could probably get a star player salary at a variety of top clubs. He's the best striker in the league, at 25 will only get better.

Best striker, not best player. Salah signed his first contract at Liverpool when he was the same age Isak is right now. Van Dijk was a year older than them when he signed for Liverpool. I see no reason why he should get the same exorbitant weekly wages as they're getting - they've proven their worth to Liverpool over the years and gradually improved their wages to those amounts.

Something in between £250-300k per week (right in between Ekitike and Wirtz if I'm not mistaken) is reasonable for Isak and in line with what he would get at a variety of top clubs as well. It would place him just shy of the top 10 in the league. £300k per week would place him 6th (with guys like Casemiro and Sterling in front of him), I think that would be what he should get.

I confess, I was under the impression that Ekitike wouldn't be earning so much. I assumed that was maybe 200K, which to me seems pretty low (crazy as that sounds) for Isak. But 300K I could understand. Also, I just checked @elmo and I didn't know Salah was earning 400K. Fair enough mate.

Because they have a wage structure at the club and they actually follow it.

It’s why they can get rid of underperforming players for decent prices, they don’t overpay every player in the squad unlike us under the Glazers.

Isak is great but is he Salah level? Probably needs to maintain his current standard for a year or two more before he gets paid over 350k per week.

should be more, considering Haaland earns 500k per week

I get that he can't demand Salah's wages. Or even Virgil's. But, he will sign for 250k? No way. One of the best strikers in the world will accept same salary as Ekitike got? I call BS.

It must be again that shit with bonusses which Liverpool do.

He's got 3 years on his deal with Newcastle, and they are struggling to sign players, so they would make it hard for Isak to leave, they would demand something silly to discourage Liverpool and probably will not entertain offers below their silly valuation.

And in my opinion, a silly valuation = £200m -£250m

What good is money if they can't replace him though? They should probably just refuse to sell him until next year at the very least
You have an unhappy player who will probably be worth less.

They will end up getting Wissa + another with almost 40m extra leftover.

Then strengthen other areas.

By rejecting it this year, are you thinking next year all of a sudden NUFC will be a more desirable destination for players or something? It'll probably be the same, but with less Isak-Kitty.

My god the media loves to suck off anything Liverpool related. Very respectful my arse.

He's going to be incredible for the scousers. If Newcastle don't hold out for 150 million minimum they're a joke. Not often one of the best strikers in the world gets sold in their prime with 3 years left on the contract.

They'd get the same fee next summer I'd have thought, and they'd have 12 months run up on replacing him. Once the window closes Isak would get his head down and it'd be business as usual.

Also didn't Brentford say they wouldn't be selling Mbeumo and wissa in the same summer?

For me this all depends on whether Newcastle can get at least one starter in to replace him up top. If they'd already signed Wissa and Sesko for example, Isak would probably already be a Liverpool player.

If they can't get anyone in, they'll keep Isak and deal with the aftermath internally. We've done the same thing with Coutinho in summer of 2017 and Suarez in 2013. Both did get their move within 12 months and I suspect Isak will as well.

Well then I have no idea what you’re on about  Why would every United signing expect to win the league and champions league?
Think it's just a convenient way to moan and remind everyone that we're not very good at the moment, of which I'm pretty sure most need no reminding.

You have turned his head so think it's academic whether they manage to actually sign a number 9

Why would they sanction his sale if they don't have anyone else to play up top? He still has three years left on his current deal.

Bundesleague strikers going for £80 mil and unproven and scousers only have to pay £40 mil than that for probably the best striker in the league with 3 years left in his contract. How?

why make that kind of deal?? you wouldn't even get enough up front money to purchase a replacement
Why would Brentford accept like 15/20m upfront or something for Mbeumo, they wouldn't even have enough up front money to purchase a replacement?

That's how transfers work.

we don't know what was paid up front

but when you are asking for 150m for a player who is their STAR player, you're not going to replace him for 60m. It's one thing if it's a "squad" player but not your star striker who you are selling within the league
