It's just part of the discourse of tribalism in football. It is odd that Wirtz wasn't reported as record fee, because the initial fee was less than Enzo, yet our fees literally always include the add ons when reported as what we'll be paying. This is no different really, it's reported as £120m...plus add ons. I personally find it annoying when I have to engage with a casual fan and have to normalize transfer fees because there's no consistency in reporting or shitty understanding of exchange rates by journalists.

It shouldn’t affect Sesko. If Sesko decides he wants United then Newcastle are out the picture.

But I am not fully convinced on their market. Wirtz is a great player (but not word class) but he unbalances the midfield. Plus they lack a defensive midfielder. I watched them against Milan and there was too much space between defenses and forwards.

Compared to where they were, Newcastle will certainly have some good years with Howe in charge, but I think they have ambitions greater than qualifying for the Champions League every other year, and that's his ceiling there, in my opinion.

They are targeting players who much bigger clubs are interested in.
Wirtz is absolutely world class. So many Bundesliga watchers (I included) consider him the most talented player in that league for over a decade (unless you don't consider Haaland, Bellingham, Kane, etc.. world class). It's mostly PL fans who barely see Bundesliga teams play outside of the CL who seem to have reservations about him.
As much as I hate the club, this is not a 'casual' spending. They have saved transfer spending by spending wisely and getting the best out of their transfers for several years. Now that they are in a position spend and attract top talents from the world, they are spending. Very strategic I would say.
