Will be interesting to see how this goes.
If Newcastle dig their heels in will Liverpool go to £140m ish?
Could all end up very messy if they don't, or they sit on it till nearer the end of the window.

we don't know what was paid up front

but when you are asking for 150m for a player who is their STAR player, you're not going to replace him for 60m. It's one thing if it's a "squad" player but not your star striker who you are selling within the league
Why would they only have 60m to replace him if they sell him for over 120m?

There are no other £120m strikers available to sign for Newcastle though anyway. The best they could hope for is a £60m Watkins/Sesko/Mateta etc type signing- and they are a downgrade on Isak. Plus with Wilson going they will need 2 strikers in. Not a good place to be if they end up with Watkins and Calvert Lewin etc

Liverpool are really ragdollimg Newcastle. Threaten to bid for best player or steal your target, proceed to steal target. Then, come back and bid and unsettle the best player anyway.

Embarrassing window for the Toon so far and could get worse.

Boo hoo won’t someone please think of poor little Liverpool

That means we're definitely putting together a second bid since that guy knows nothing about anything.

I actually think this transfer is a massive risk for your team. I completely understand why as fans you will be thinking you sign this guy and you win the lot - I remember 2001 when we got RVN and Veron added to a squad that just won 3 premier league titles in a row and I was sat there thinking "we just blew everyone away for the next 3-4 years".

I've recently read Ian Graham's book on how he helped bring in the data driven era at LIverpool, and this seems a long way from that now. You're doing what a lot of clubs have done, and not ended up with what they expected. I watched some of the recent friendly you played, and I thought you looked disjointed and vulnerable at the back against a far from great team.

I guess it's now Pools era. Sad
How? Aren't they now looking long term given Salah is coming up to his mid 30s? Diaz, Trent gone as attacking options, Jota tragically lost. Hardly the most inspiring title win either, looked more like us in 12/13 at the end of an era but still able to turn out high levels of consistency.

Sounds like Liverpool are out - no second bid says Ben Jacobs.

Jacobs talks a lot of shite, but it's rare for him to say something as specific as this.

Will look like a massive, massive prat if Liverpool come in with a second bid tomorrow.

Only a couple of days ago he said Liverpool would only bid if we received encouragement from Newcastle. Now he's saying we won't bid again due to Newcastle's response.

I have no idea if we'll bid again, but it's pretty clear Jacobs doesn't have a clue either.

Surprised Toon didn't accept that. He's quality, but he's becoming incredibly overrated due to the shit state of strikers.
they don't need the money and they've been taking hits all summer (targets rejecting them, Isak wanting out etc). Makes sense for them to ask for ridiculous money.

Would be fun for us to hijack this one, but I actually prefer Sesko as I think we need a true #9 that gets on the end of things

It's just a bid that's not really based in reality, when you see what they've spent already. He's their best player, source of goals and arguably one of the best strikers - if not the best, in the league.

They’ll definitely sign him, unfortunately. He’ll put more pressure on and they will settle at £120m or so.

Still expecting this to happen. Earlier in the window Jacobs was saying that we'd only bid if given encouragement by Newcastle.

I suspect that behind the scenes things are further a long, similar to Wirtz.

It’s simple for them. Whoever they buy will be a downgrade.

Think you’ve answered your own question. The shit state of strikers is the problem. Won’t matter if you’ve got 110 mil in your pocket if you can’t find an adequate replacement.

They scraped into 5th last season with Isak being top scorer and scoring the same amount in the league as the 2nd 3rd and 4th top scorers combined.

I reckon they’ll ride out this transfer window. Get him to resign a contract that has a £110 mil release clause for next summer and they can do the leg work now to find a replacement.

BBC reporting that Liverpool are pulling out of a move for him now after the bid was rejected?

If its true (big if) that Liverpool are pulling out, I'd be furious at them if I were Isak. Threw his toys out of the pram to force a move only for them to take the piss with a lowball offer 40m below the asking price.
