If its true (big if) that Liverpool are pulling out, I'd be furious at them if I were Isak. Threw his toys out of the pram to force a move only for them to take the piss with a lowball offer 40m below the asking price.
It feels crazy that we are saying 110m is a taking the piss lowball offer.

But I agree somewhat, they said what they'd sell him for, it was there to be matched.

Right, which is why we had to sell Anderson and Minteh late last window for PSR reasons?

Sooner or later t has to sink in for you people that while PIF is sitting on an infinite money pit they're not shoveling it into us like everyone assumed they would.

Even the splurge at the start of their ownership was well within the confines of those rules and it's not like it's continued at that pace. Our gross spend over the last 5 years is roughly the net spend of any of the "big 6".
Reality is that your owners realise it’s easier to get the big names they want to play in the Saudi league than it is to get them to play in Newcastle.

I actually think this transfer is a massive risk for your team. I completely understand why as fans you will be thinking you sign this guy and you win the lot - I remember 2001 when we got RVN and Veron added to a squad that just won 3 premier league titles in a row and I was sat there thinking "we just blew everyone away for the next 3-4 years".

I've recently read Ian Graham's book on how he helped bring in the data driven era at LIverpool, and this seems a long way from that now. You're doing what a lot of clubs have done, and not ended up with what they expected. I watched some of the recent friendly you played, and I thought you looked disjointed and vulnerable at the back against a far from great team.
Michael Edwards, who co-founded ludonautics with Graham, and was his boss at Liverpool, is back at Liverpool, and undoubtedly playing a big role in the transfer decisions there.

I think the numbers they’re spending are way too much of a risk, simply because players can get injured or just not be that good. However, there’s little doubt that they’ve looked at these deals from all angles before moving forward with them.

Think you’ve answered your own question. The shit state of strikers is the problem. Won’t matter if you’ve got 110 mil in your pocket if you can’t find an adequate replacement.

They scraped into 5th last season with Isak being top scorer and scoring the same amount in the league as the 2nd 3rd and 4th top scorers combined.

I reckon they’ll ride out this transfer window. Get him to resign a contract that has a £110 mil release clause for next summer and they can do the leg work now to find a replacement.
Lot will depend on his willingness to go along with that scenario. There are reports that he told Newcastle months ago that he intended to move on this summer and he is not inclined to back down as he feels they have misrepresented the situation and ignored his wishes. He has a fair amount of leverage, Sweden won't need him to be playing to pick him so the World Cup can't be held over him and Newcastle won't want to see an asset depreciate sitting in the stands. His sale does make a certain amount of sense for them as it would clear the PSR obstacle they have been battling and allow them to buy 2 or 3 big name players. I would bet at this point he still ends up at Anfield before the window closes and Newcastle will likely end up with Watkins and Wissa.

And you believed him.
No, I'm making the point that he like most journalists in this and most windows, don't actually know anything. They get fed information by clubs and their sources most of the time, and there is usually a motive behind that.

We'll go back in for Isak in a week or two with another bid if Newcastle get someone in. Still expecting us to sign him. I'd have more doubts if someone like Madrid was sniffing around.

Or... Newcastle have told you the 'feck off' price required of say 150 million in one payment and made clear that's not a counter offer it's the actual price and your owners have realised they aren't joking

Ah OK because I was thinking that has to be one of the dumbest and most clearly made up out of thin air “reports” in the history of transfer bollocks.

Still expecting this to happen. Earlier in the window Jacobs was saying that we'd only bid if given encouragement by Newcastle.

I suspect that behind the scenes things are further a long, similar to Wirtz.

Now his fanbase actively hates him

Might be what he needs to go on a scorcher for them this season or it ends up a toxic mess

These discussions have been going on for a few weeks behind closed doors. My opinion is that information is being leaked by Isak's representatives, Liverpool and Newcastle. It's us who are saying we won't bid again because Newcastle don't have a replacement.

If Newcastle were to sign Watkins and Wissa for example, or already had players in, then this would already be done. I think something like 120-125 plus add ons would get it done.

Newcastle will sell if they have players in though. It's not a "feck off and leave us alone" stance. We said Diaz wasn't for sale earlier in the window. Every player has a price/conditions that a club will sell at.

"The nature of Newcastle's rejection" what the hell is that supposed to mean? Did they send a shit smeared letter to say no to the bid?
Sent a barbershop quartet to sing “feck off!”

I think we're not done dunkin Newcastles head in the toilet just yet.

Newcastle are just a bit richer than Leverkusen. Heck they’re far richer than Liverpool.

The thing about Newcastle is they won't be bullied. They have all the money. And they won't want to look weak ever.

So I would assume its 150m or feck off.

Also a lesson to players going to the likes of Newcastle or even Forest. Don't feck about. Saw it with Gibbs-White in the end stood next to the owner like a puppy. These are not very nice people running these football clubs.

As I said above. If the nature of it was 150 million in one single payment or no deal, that might be the end of it.

They should tell Isak, fine you can go to Liverpool but on condition that they meet our terms, 150m in one payment, up front
Let’s see how badly they want him

I'd laugh if Isak does on strike and never play for the barcodes again...

Having said that, I feckin hate the petulant, self-entitled, "it's all about me" BS that some players exude nowadays.

A club like Newcastle ain't getting bullied though. If they sell it's on their terms. Isak can rot if he wants but he must realize it's World Cup next year?

It's time clubs take some of the power away from players, its what's enabled us to get fecked over by Sancho, Rashford and Pogba to an extent. And Wissa is apparently decided not to train with Brentford anymore. Player power is a problem.

I think Sesko preferring us over them has played a part here.

Fair play to Newcastle if they stand firm and keep him, it's likely Chelsea, Bayern, Barca and possibly PSG will be in the market for a striker next season, which will only help them get the price they want.

£110m is mental for him, never worth that, very good striker but nothing more at the moment. Ownership egos at play at this point.
