It doesn't add up at all.

The only explanation I can think of is that he's just sore that Newcastle's owners won't sell and also wants to make sure that a new contract includes a release clause for next summer or something similar.

If Liverpool and Isak's agent really thought this was a feasible deal they could broker this summer, Liverpool would not have gazumped Newcastle for Ekitike. The last time that happened - a club pushing for a massive transfer from an unwilling seller stealing that seller's number one replacement choice just beforehand - was never.
 
This late or midway through the window is weird timing, so you have to think he has a destination in mind and held talks before going public. The backlash isn't worth it otherwise.

They don't have any ffp concerns and if they manage to sell Elliott and Diaz who are rumoured with transfers away, there's even less of a concern.
 
Isak does not put in what is essentially a transfer request if he hasn't been assured by a top club that they'll pay the required fee and wages. Sadly it looks inevitable it's Liverpool, not a realistic sniff from any other big club from credible sources.

They'll get £100m for Diaz and Nunez to part fund it. What's really galling is that they really shouldn't have won the league last year with these relatively modest players and an inexperienced manager, but Arsenal and City fecked it. We'll all pay the price for that for years now.
 
Wonder which of the current events have unsettled him (more), active interest from Liverpool or, in his view, Newcastle's relatively lack of ambitious transfer activity in the market.

Unfortunately they do, my working day sometimes consists of finding em-dashes and it's evil twin the n-dash, they are apparently a big deal in the STM publishing world along withe Oxford comma, but don't ask me why 'cos I have no clue!

Yup, exactly. There isn't even much left on the market at this point for Newcastle to spend 130-150m. And if Liverpool really thought this was a doable deal then they wouldn't have acted so aggressively to gazump Newcastle for Isak's replacement.
 
Liverpool Isak and Ekitike, United Weghorst on loan, sound good?
 
Hopefully PSG are completely onto this as the thought of him at Liverpool is not one I want to envisage at all.
 
Newcastle thinking they'll have Ekitike and Isak upfront to then potentially seeing both up front for another team is kind of funny, until you realise who they'll be playing for.
 
Would love it if it is Bayern. They pull out of the deal for Diaz and then buy Isak. Dippers then left to figure out who to try and rob for Diaz.

Isak may well be the best centre-forward in the league. He’s not going anywhere to have position messed with. This is the marquee signing of the summer, should he move. All bells and whistles trying to entice him to sign.

Not sure about that. This is the kind of signing that shows how creative your accounting team is, and also how many “levers” your club will pull out the ground to make it happen. Fire sales of high earners can make this viable with wages off the books. Wondering if even our guys are looking at this
 
Liverpool with possibly the greatest transfer window of all time if they get him.

I'm expecting something like this too - Newcastle simply can't let him go for anything less than a huge fee, it would set an awful precedent. But they won't want to keep their best player unhappy. Throwing silly money at him (perhaps with a high, but feasible for big spending clubs, release clause) is a short term fix at least.

Unless Liverpool or the likes of PSG have a spare £100m or so to make a deal in this window, but I can't see it taking any less than that.

Whilst there’s no law against it; the hungry tramp gawping through the window of Fortnum & Mason doesn’t end up with a sated tum-tum.
 
I really don’t see how liverpool would line up with both ekitike and Isak in the starting 11 and ekitike wouldn’t have moved with assurances.

Yeah. It’s going to cost Newcastle an arm and a leg to keep him. Which coincidentally, is what Isak will have to lose if he tries to leave them.
 
Don't do it to yourself lads. Liverpool want him, he wants to leave. Thats it.

Forget the mental gymnastics of who could afford him, who needs him, how teams could line up etc
Remember Occam's Razor, the simplest explanation is usually the correct one.

This is what confuses me. I get that one of them could play on the wing, but it seems suboptimal. Unless they're planning a formation change.
 
I he’s pulling the toys out of the pram now as Arsenal are about to pull the plug on Gyokeres and Liverpool have on Etikke. They were both definetly in for him. Wonder could it hijack the Gyokeres deal. I don’t see Liverpool stumping up the money unless Nunez is part of the transfer deal.
