Who's selling away their future for Isak?

3 weeks ago, hell 2 weeks ago, Liverpool move for him instead of Ekitike. Now they need to sell Diaz first - which if they want Isak actually plays into Bayern's hand, giving them leverage to low ball them, for example. And it's likely even just that one sale might not be enough

Chelsea, same thing. Arsenal? They don't waste their time on Gyokeres. Evem United, if Isak gave indication he'd be interested, put Cunha and Mbeumo on the freeze to try and sign him first

Ah well. Maybe Flo can play a blinder here, sell Mbappé to the Saudis and bring him in?
I’m not saying it’s a regular thing; it’s a unique one-time opportunity, one of those signings clubs will do strange things to acquire - I don’t think PSR is anywhere near as cut and shut as fans like to believe, btw. We talk about that stuff like it’s a save on Football Manager with A follows B rhetoric that I don’t believe clubs adhere to so simplistically.

Gambling or leveraging the mid-term for the short in a scenario like this, I would buy into. I also think clubs will pull out extraordinary moves for Isak if he’s in an open market rather than dead set on a club.

Isak is in the “what if” crowd now, like a younger Kane (or anyone who didn’t move to a final destination club in their mid 20’s). I’m quite sure there’ll be a frenzy if he entertains it.

What a season to be out of CL and broke at the same time when suddenly all other clubs spending money like oil clubs.

Daft from Isak really, why didn't he say all this at the start of the window. I doubt anyone can afford him now.

Unless he's orchestrated this to go to Saudi

If we had any ambition left at Manchester United, we would put everything into buying him.
Where is this everything actually coming from, will never understand not going all in to sign him at Sociedad

Correct me if I'm wrong, but my understanding is that there was a deal in place for Ronaldo to move to Madrid for a long time. He wanted to go the previous summer, United held off the interest, but there must have been an agreement that he could go the following summer for an appropriate bid. United were never going to say "Well, we can't get Benzema so he can't leave" or similar.

In this situation, Newcastle clearly don't want to sell and Liverpool are in the position of trying to convince them. Gazumping them for Ekitike can't have helped.
I remember Sir Alex saying they got a bid for £80 mil out of the blue and they just couldn't reject it.

The only deliberations that need to be happening in the United executive offices at this moment is how to put together £120m-£150m to pay to Newcastle. Screw everything else.
INEOS know they can't compete with the big boys on this one, ah well if only we had owners who would fund this out of their own pockets.

No way would he even consider coming here in any case.

Surprised he’s done this now, surely the time would have been next season. No top club really needs to break the bank for him this summer.

O ye of little faith, this signing is in Ratcliffe and Berrada plan all along. Mission 2028, here we come.

His last season at Sociedad was crap and raised a few red flags. Without pens, he scored 4 goals in 32 league games - the same as Hojlund for us last season.

There's a reason Newcastle (who finished 11th the season before) had a bit of a free run at him, when a dozen better clubs could have used a striker if they'd been convinced by him at that point. He wasn't quite the dead cert people assume in hindsight.

Can he even sign for a Saudi team given most are also owned by PIF? All I can find on the subject is a BBC article from 2023 stating Newcastle can only loan players to and from another PIF outfit.

Ah I have no idea mate. What's PIF?

Its disgusting that we have gotten ourselves in a position to not even be conisdered by him, and a bunch of the strikers who have moved / will move this window. We have neither the pull not the finances, while liverpool are able to spend like a saudi club. Honestly, its ridiculous they've let the club get here.

If we beat Spurs in the Final we would have at least had a half chance. Unfortuanlty we all know what happened.
Yeah would have at least had spare £100m and Champions League football to boot, gutting to think what might have been if we had turned up.

Liverpool will get him or at least someone will. He is not going on a war with his club without knowing he has something lined-up.

Shame we are in no position to take advantage of this. Can't afford the fee, can't afford the wages, probably can't attract the player, and can't see Newcastle selling to us truth be told.

Sad part which is killing me right now is that we have PSR space to spend on Isak (not saying that he would be interested to come here).
But our bloody owners would need to invest money from their pocket. Which, of course, they will never do. This summer striker market was the best in last 10 years and we are just watching it from the bench. What a shit feeling.

I can see PSG going for him. They can pay fee, they can pay wages and they can offer him trophies.
We aren't watching from the bench it's the stands

We’ve just spent over 120 million already on two new attackers that have done well in the PL already?

Tbh it might not be a bad thing that we can’t afford Isak as I don’t believe for one moment he’s worth 120+ million and the 300+k wages it would take.

Newcastle have had a mare too.

They had ages to convince him they were a serious team and spunked the budget on Elanga

Must be quite shite being their fan now, you’d think with CL and steady progress they’d be able to keep their best players.

It doesn't add up at all.

The only explanation I can think of is that he's just sore that Newcastle's owners won't sell and also wants to make sure that a new contract includes a release clause for next summer or something similar.

If Liverpool and Isak's agent really thought this was a feasible deal they could broker this summer, Liverpool would not have gazumped Newcastle for Ekitike. The last time that happened - a club pushing for a massive transfer from an unwilling seller stealing that seller's number one replacement choice just beforehand - was never.
They always wanted to sign both by looks of it, wish Newcastle signed Ekitike and slapped hands off on this guy.

Shame we are in no position to take advantage of this. Can't afford the fee, can't afford the wages, probably can't attract the player, and can't see Newcastle selling to us truth be told.

But other than all that, we've got a right chance.

"Manchester United has a significant debt burden, with figures fluctuating around £1 billion, including the Glazer family's leveraged buyout debt, and additional borrowing. This debt includes long-standing loans, a revolving credit facility, and outstanding transfer fees"

Since we already have so much debts, can we borrow another 150m for Isak? I understand that we can still comply with PSR but cashflow is the problem hence the borrowing

I dn't think Newcastle would have a problem selling him to us. The dippers are a bigger obstacle in their way at this time.
