We paid 120k to Ashley Young back in 2011, pay wages of 100k a week to the likes of Lingard. We always overpay on wages even though Woody has taken it to another level.

If the rumours that he's agreed personal terms with Inter are true, we should let him leave on a free. Holding out for a transfer fee on a player we clearly don't want, and who we definitely don't want to have to pay salary to, is just silly - especially when we're never going to get much more than c.8-15m anyway

Or just good negotiation. They will pay for Sanchez because they really want him.

Ole has dealt with this one great, he's clearly not wanted and doesn't want to come back. If the wages weren't so high, people would want a fee. We should be demanding something, he's looked good and fit the last few games and playing well. If we can get something here it's a guarantee of more signings. We could pay two good players wages with what he's on. I just get a sense he's not popular with the team too. The rumours about the team drinks fridge having to be moved, because his legs were cold says it all. He's the worst signing post Fergie, waste of time. So disappointing, I was excited when he came. Be good for everyone to move on from this, even his fecking dogs.

We're gonna get diddled on any deal. Italian clubs are notoriously stingy, we're desperate to get rid. Inter have us over a barrel. We'll probably end up paying half his wages for years.

Probably get a fee, say £20M, and then turn it over to him as compensation for reduced wages at Inter. At least we'll be done with him.

Utd would give him away for nothing I reckon. Otherwise we will probably have to pay him half his wages all year to play for somebody else.

We have a much better hand than the "get rid" crowd thinks.

Alexis looks refreshed after the Covid break, and has been their best player since the restart.

Inter and Conte are desperate to win the Europa and his current deal expires on Aug 8, and we are one of the teams left in that competition and have no incentive to extend loan by 3 weeks, and this is time critical for them.

He has about £38m left in wages on his contract, which at UK taxes is £21m net, or €23m net.

Inter want to give him a 3 year contract and Italian taxes for footballers is a lot lower.

If Alexis wants to go back there and is willing to take the same guaranteed money but spread over 3 years (not that big an if), Inter need to pay him €7.7m net which is €9.8m gross which is right in line with their best players.

His remaining book value for us is ~15m.

I think the deal will happen iff
1. Alexis takes the same money over 3 years instead of 2.
2. Inter pay his remaining book value to us as a fee
3. We give Alexis a small bonus like 2-3m.

I hadn't realised the big difference in Italian tax before. Interesting. If we can get out of this at minimal further cost it would be an unexpected bonus.

I'll be curious to know the terms of this deal. I never thought we'd get any kind of fee given the wages involved.

tbf, he's been really good since the re-start.
Really good in what context though? Over the course of the season combined with his year and a half with us surely you'd have your doubts but it's like they literally don't care and will sign anyone

Word is, Sanchez has actually pretty decent for Inter. Still, it's best for all parties that we send off Sanchez as soon as possible, with hopefully no residual wage obligations whatsoever.

Good luck for him there. Was disastrous signing from top to bottom for us but he has been doing well with Inter recently and their fans seem to like him, so win-win for everyone here.

Really shame looking back at it now. The excitement when we got him was crazy, but unfortunately, he ended up fecking the entire team and destroying all balance we had in main lineup. In my honest opinion, his signing was the beginning of Mourinho's end here. We were doing really well before signing him, but once we got him, Mourinho fecked up the team by forcing him on the left and switching Martial right then dropped Martial for him at the end. We would have been in a much better place if we resumed playing Rashford and Martial on left back then instead of him.

Anyway, best of luck to him there.

The worst ever PL signing. Thank feck he's going. His being here was a reminder of how badly this club was run since Fergie left.

So we signed Mkhitaryan for 30m, did a straight swap with Sanchez 18 months later, 18 months on from that we sent him to Inter and now 12 months on from that we're getting what 10m for him? Not bad for 4 years worth of work

The wage thing is interesting....seems that for the first year Inter will pay Sanchez the full390k per week.
Maybe that was the big issue between Inter and Conte.
Imo Inter are doing big sacrifices to accommodate Conte s wishes. I remember him throwing a similar tantrum just before an agreement was reached over Lukaku.

I cannot believe after all the hype and excitement at his signing he will leave having scored a grand total of what? 5 goals? fecking awful.

Getting rid of him and his monster wages is a huge bonus for us. This is wonderful news.

I think he was the signing that really burnt Woody and woke him up. He starting veto'ing a lot of Jose targets after that and was by accounts behind keeping Martial when Jose wanted him sold. The annual "Woody Performances" thread looks like it will be full of praise for Money Woodweather.

He finished with the most assists for a team that finished 1 point behind Juve and achieved their highest points total in a decade - their highest since winning the treble - despite missing half the season with an injury. Since coming back from the break he got 7 assists in 8 starts, getting MOTM in half of them, and going unbeaten in every start. Compared to the most creative player in the league, Alejandro Gomez, who got 18 assists for the season overall or an assist every 2.2 games, Sánchez was very productive with an assist every 1.4 games.

He has fitness issues and had to be managed post-injuries, but when he played he was generally very effective, by anyone's standards. If he'd played that well for us over a 2 month stretch there'd be many more people wanting him back.

Yeah this was a real tipping point moment for us, we've been on the upswing since December 2018 and should be challenging on the next few seasons with a good, long term, youth-centred plan finally being laid

Since his signing in January 2018 I think our transfer record has been much improved.

The only real bad signing we've made since then would probably be Dalot, and even then he was a young guy with some hype around him so I could see why we went for him.

Looks like Sanchez and how big a disaster it was has been something of a watershed moment.
