To play in games like tonight?
We've had a fair few games like that and he's only ever played three times for us. Stylistically he is completely different to Onana and you can tell the team were a bit nervous playing out the back with him. I'd be pretty worried if Onana got injured for some time and we had him in the league for a while.

He may never even reach 10 appearances for the club, but that save last night should be in our highlight reel for the season.

Thought he did absolutely fine as our 2nd choice. Got a solid punch for the first goal. Nothing to do for the 2nd goal. Other than that and a good save he didn't have much to do. Decent distribution, calm on the ball, probably gave the ball away the same amount of times that Onana normally does. I didn't really see any weak points. Not sure what others are seeing.

Good save last night but dodgy attempt at thr corner clearance really did lead to their first goal. Didn't cover himself in glory with that.

Surprised to see him being criticised for the first. He came, and won, the ball and got it to what should have been a safer position. Isn't on him that the Leicester player had about a kilometer of space afforded to him by our defence.

The defending was extremely typical of United the last couple years. Didn't work hard enough to stop the cross and then abysmal marking in the area.

True, but also, goalies shouldn't go for the punch unless they are certain they get if into a safe zone - it wasn't a bad punch, but it wasn't good enough. If a goalie has a half decent punch, it's still into dangerous areas or not far enough from the goal, and the goalie has left his position, making it awkward to either get back or get into a proper position; he also needs to position himself on top of that, so making a good save becomes much more difficult.

Yeah there was one particular dodgy pass back by Dalot last night that put him under pressure and had me screaming ‘Nooo! Don’t do that it’s not Andreeee!’ at my TV.

I guess that at least demonstrates a level of reassuredness we have with Onana.

I do think Altay is a decent enough stopper, he is just rusty/unfamiliar through never playing. He needs more rotation.

the last thing you’d want is for your backup goalkeeper to slot in seamlessly.

I'm not saying no, but he was never a ball playing keeper, so if that's what we wanted that's not on him.

Not playing him for so long is always going to cause issues for any keeper, he was 1st choice and now gets like 3 games a year.

Poor punch for the 1st, but there wasn't anything he could do about the finish. 2nd he couldn't do anything for. Had a very good save as well.
Did ok really.

I'll buck the general trend, I actually like him.
He's quick across the ground, much more athletic than Onana, and that was a stunning save last night.
His distribution is not too bad, the defenders are bound to be a bit unsure with him, as they have barely played together.
Sure he's rusty, but I'd like to see him again v Spurs.
I await the incoming!!!

Vitek is on loan.

Sold Kovar, but to be fair he’s 24 and probably thought he’d get a chance at Leverkusen’s first team. Wasn’t there talk of Hradecky getting sold before Kovar joined?

I think Kovar was sold on the idea that he would be the successor to Hradecky, even if he has to wait 2 or 3 seasons he is over 10 years younger and a clear pathway to the starting job is there which did not seem to exist at United with ETH determined to sign Onana at that point. Leverkusen have given Kovar pretty much all of their domestic and European cup games since he got there so he is also playing a fair bit.

From our persepective it was the old FFP issue. We sold Kovar for around 7M and got Altay for around 5M but with amoritization that showed up as 7M profit for an academy player with only 1M of the fee for Altay showing up in that years accounts which helped us with buying Onana, Mount and Rasmus that summer. We also have a sell on in the Kovar deal so hope to see him move for big money in a few years time.

Difficult to give an opinion without seeing him get an extended run in the team, which will only happen if Onana gets injured.

He looks fine to be honest, nothing amazing but nothing terrible either. Maybe we will need an upgrade in the future, but seems to be the last of our worries right now - we have more important gaps in the team to fill.
