Alvaro Arbeloa | Fulham Manager

He was never the right man for the job. Not because of his actual skills as a manager, from which I think we know nothing. But mostly because those players were already disrespecting Xabi Alonso, who is a proven high quality manager, so they needed some really big authority in the dressing room.

They were disrespecting Ancelotti as well in his 2nd stint. Ancelotti and his staff would work on stuff in training with the players and on the weekend, they wouldn't implement it on the pitch. When he was leaving he told Alonso that he was having some issues with some players not listening ,doing the bare minimum training and arriving late.

So this has been growing in the background for awhile. My presumption is that as Madrid lost Ronaldo, Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Sergio Ramos etc, that the professionalism dropped off as well.
 
Since the Ballon d'Or tantrum Real Madrid can't seem to be able to stop embarrassing themselves.

Yeah but bringing an even softer touch into a situation where players are taking the mickey was pure madness.
 

For those of you who might not know, since it happened years ago: back then, Arbeloa was heavily mocked. Piqué, among others, used to call him a cone
 
Sounds like the squad has big attitude problems and needs someone with authority to come in. Not sure bring a washed up Jose is going to solve that though. They would have been better placed by backing Alonso against the players.
 
Arbeloa has been a complete failure on every conceivable level. Tactics, man management, club image, everything.
 
Imo he has done a good job maintaining second and knocking city out. He was competent at least. Madrid expects the best though. Maybe he should work on sky sports. He has done better than neville and carragher would have done, or am I mistaken?
 
When it goes wrong there, it goes spectacularly wrong with all those giant egos. But it’s Madrid, they’ll still attract a few big names (players or managers) and just continue competing. When does Perez go up for re election? He seems quite bulletproof there.
 
There is nothing entitled about it. Arbeloa was not hired because 2nd place was at risk, so holding on to 2nd place is a poor standard to judge him by.

He was hired to win or at least put up a good fight for the major titles, and RM did not do so.

He was also hired to stabilize the dressing room, and instead players are beating the crap out of each other.

I usually don't have anything against managers and don't wish them ill, but Arbeloa really seems like an asshole.

His whole idea of being successful by licking boots of Perez and players is incredibly shitty and small minded.
 
To be honest i didnt even know Alvaro Balboa got a license to be a manager. And during matches he often looks gormless
 
Imagine Liverpool dumping Slot and appointing Arbeloa, and then the head coaches of a lot of the top English sides are a bunch of guys you saw play against eachother on a regular basis over 15 years ago. It would be like an FM game come to life.
 
Probably as good a thread as any to ask the Madridistas above why Raul has never been considered for the managerial position as interim at any point?

We've seen with Zidane and Arbeloa that Perez dosen't mind putting in the Castilla manager for 4-6 months and see how they do. Going back 20 years and I can remember Garcia Remon and Lopez Caro being given lengthy caretaker spells to see if they could replicate Del Bosque.

Nothing for Raul despite being Castilla manager for a full six seasons.

I can't remember if there were any issues between him and Perez when he left to go to Schalke but he's been back working for Real Madrid for many years so just find it curious unless he dosen't specifically want to be a manager at the very highest level.

Or he's too much of a homegrown legend no one would want to see him fail and taint his legacy?

Perez has never liked Raul. There were audiotapings leaked a few years ago where he was calling him a fraud
 
I already had Fulham pegged as a “could be in trouble next season club”. Going from Silva to Arbeloa would enhance that notion for me.
 
His record suggests he's at least competent, This will be a good test to find out if he's any good, but he's certainly not a "bad" manager.

Realistically he should have gone to a second tier team in Spain and developed that way, mind.

Perez doesn't really like him. But mostly there was no need for it. Real Madrid didn't need a caretaker in the six years in which Raul was managing Castilla.
