I’m not making a generalisation here but anyone that doesn’t rate him has either not watched him enough or knows nothing about football.

Barcelona bought 3 strikers in the past 6 months, they need to get rid of wages.

He was still their top scorer and is actually being chased after by the club Morata has played for the past 2 seasons and aren't in for his permanent signature this summer.

I don't believe that Morata is better at all.
So Depay is decent because Barca signed players to replace him??

Strange logic that one.

He was being compared to fecking Lukaku the last time he came to England and the latter outperformed him. Now that he's even older he's supposed to become an asset for us?

Would have him on loan like everyone else to get a body in and nothing more

I was responding to the 'desperate to get rid' comment with context if you're not following...

Barcelona are also desperate to get rid of our number 1 transfer target this summer, does that mean he's a bad player too?

Why didn't any of those clubs sign him up for more than a year at a time?

If he was as good as you think he'd have found a real home years ago
He's played for one more club than Ronaldo in his career so far.
A lot less than Lukaku
And one more club than your beloved Depay.

I'd hardly say that's tragic, especially looking at the calibre of clubs he has played at.

He's my beloved now because I'd have him over the most glorified backup striker of the last decade

I'm done with this back and forth, get back to me when we send him back to Atleti next summer after his handful of goals for us

Those who don’t want him, would you rather have him or go into the season with just our current options? There’s a serious lack of good quality strikers available out there. None that will be available at this stage.

For all we know, Ronaldo may still be hell bent on leaving this transfer window. We can’t just rely on martial and then play half the season with a false 9 when he’s injured.

Morata ain’t the long term answer but he’s certainly useful.

He fits the profile of the CF Ten Hag wants. This signing makes sense, if its done on the cheap.

Will bow to your knowledge. I obviously dreamt his whole Chelsea spell.

Obviously his overall play will improve us, I guess will he facilitate enough goals to make up his lack of them? Works with Ronaldo though, so wouldn't be against this to be honest.

Whether you like it or not that's how far we (and the striker market in general) has fallen.

There's just a serious lack of good forwards, and the ones that are available won't join us.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.

He’s nothing like Lukaku. He’s good at everything other than than the finishing and scoring of goals. Lukaku is like the opposite.

Still remember his first stint at Juve, even back then he didn't score many but he was very important to them progressing in the CL with key goals and just being capable of holding the ball and accurate passing high up the pitch. Still a technically sound player that we can use but will no doubt be frustrating at times.

I've barely seen him play but why didn't we go for someone like Scamacca for £30m instead of scrambling round for options like this.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt but the summer couldn't be looking worse if they tried.

I’d like Morata more playing behind the main striker in a 3-5-2 or 4-4-2

Not convinced on him as the number 9

Morata will not help us get into top 4 and we don’t need him to get into top 6 so I don’t really see the point. Go get someone young who can turn into a world class striker or prepare the ground to land someone in January or next summer.
We have had some luck in the past with strikers like Larson, Ibrahimovic, Cavani and now Ronaldo who were past there prime, but they were all world class and top professionals. Morata is nowhere near that.

Of course he would? He's a hard working target man with excellent hold up play. That's exactly what we lack in our forward line. Even if it's as a sub, it gives us a nice sub/rotation option to add physicality to our attack, an attack that is woefully thin on depth.

Also, there is nobody young who can turn into a world class striker. You say it as if it's easy. Darwin Nunez had 1 good season and went for 100m. Benjamin Sesko is completely unproven, 19, and they wanted 50m. Getting a short term option until we find out our long term striker target is the right thing to do right now.

He’s not someone who many of us would have put at the top of the list but having said that, he’s technically sound, has decent footballing intelligence and can finish on both feet and with his head.

He’s underwhelmed at times in his career but you do feel he’s the kind of player who could have one or two big seasons in his career where it just clicks for him. We need that bit of luck.

I’m just not sure about his attitude. I hope he would arrive motivated and with a point to prove rather than with a chip on his shoulder.

I think it was universally accepted on here last season that the introduction of Ronaldo negatively affected our play (despite his decent goal return)

I believe a Morata type forward will have a massive impact on our overall play- providing a focal point for our wide attackers and midfielders to play off

The bolded needs context. Madrid want a fee for Morata and he is also on a pretty high wage, Juve wanted to keep him but could not make it work financially. Memphis is negotiating to move on a free with Barca willing to release him from his contract and is also earning significantly less than Morata and so can fit into the wage structure Juve are willing to pay. If the financials were even and it was purely down to ability Morata is clearly the better player.

Great footballer, only above average striker, if that makes sense. Finishing is not very good, but not Timo Werner bad.

You wouldn't want a player who starts for Spain, who has played for Real, Atletico and Juve? What has that Stuttgart player done on a higher level?

I’d take him at this point. Let’s be realistic. We can’t attract the very best players anymore. Morata is a good footballer and this is a long rebuild. Will take us several years to get back to something resembling a title challenge.

According to some on here (one poster in particular) having played for Juve, Real Madrid, Chelsea, Atletico Madrid is a bad thing, as it shows they all want rid of him (despite Juve being in for him twice, two spells at Real Madrid),

Strange logic indeed.

Never understood the fuss about Morata. Even when he broke into Madrid team under Mourinho and had couple of good games. Decent striker but nowhere near elite level.

Neither do I but every big manager who’s had him has consistently played him.

That’s gonna be hard to do signing guys in the late 20’s early 30’s though isn’t it?

Or spend the same money on a Gakpo wich is way more lethal and is 23 year old.
He's a left inside forward from the Dutch league. May have good potential, may even be lined up to develop as a striker, but he's entirely unproven there. Ten Hag wants a striker who can provide physicality, hold up play, an aerial threat. Morata ticks all those boxes really well.

€35m and exorbitant wages for a 29 year old striker who can't score. I'd rather Belotti, Depay, kalajdzic, cavani (!) etc. than Morata. And these aren't great options btw (except Belotti on a free) - but all preferable.

You sign a mixture of players. Can't have a squad of kids. And if there are no young talents worth it out there, then you go for an experienced guy. We were going for Sesko early as our option, but were quoted 50m... For an entirely unproven 19 year old striker. There just isn't striker options out there this summer.
