Why are people getting wound up about a game that hasn't even been played yet?

Call me old fashioned but I'd wait for the manager to make a bad decision before getting upset about it
Typical caf trying to find something to moan about.

James is not strong at all. & Not sure where this obsession with Amad not being ready physically comes from. Hes not shown anything to suggest he can't handle a physical game.

And what on earth did you see from Shoretire to suggest he's not ready either?
Shoretire just turned 17, and looks quite small, and is relatively inconsistent in the youth teams still. His sub appearance was akin to Angel Gomes getting a few minutes under Mourinho as a 16 year old. Loads of potential. Won't actually be part of the first team picture and being used normally until 22/23 at the absolute earliest, I'd put money on that. Diallo hasn't shown he can't handle a physical game, but he hasn't shown he can either! He's a totally unproven youngster who has barely had any exposure outside youth level. I agree in that he'll probably be fine, but people need some patience and to realize that it almost never happens that a coach just throws kids in as starters when they've barely had 5 minutes as a sub appearance before. They are almost always eased into it, for good reason. Anyone expecting Diallo to play any sort of important role this season is kidding themselves and apparently has never paid attention to how any player in the history of football has ever been introduced to first team level, barring an injury crisis. He'll have a handful of sub appearances and bounce between the reserves and first team, maybe be a Europa League squad player at best. Shoretire will likely get a couple of sub appearances like this week in the extremely few dead rubbers that will be left, but mostly play for the reserves. Next season I'd expect diallo plays a more frequent role in the squad, maybe like Greenwood did last season. It's a process that you just have to be patient with.

James is pretty thick for a guy his size. It's not like he's short and very slim that he looks like a kid.

Playing in the UEFA cup isn't a high pressure match for a 17 year old who's about to make his first start for United - It is. It's learning to manage big game nerves. Learning what happens when you play at Old Trafford for the first XI, not a match at U23 or U18.

I agree giving them 5-10 minutes won't benefit them in the sense they get much physically out of the game, nor give them time to actually get into the game. But getting those first minutes in a United shirt etc will mean more to them and give them a bit more confidence next time they're called into the first team on match day.
Yup. There's a reason it's a slow transition to first team football from youth level pretty much 99% of the time.

He’s played in the champions league. There’s no fans what pressure do you really think he will be under. He’s a professional football player, we haven’t signed him from SE Dons. Jesus... how did Dan James manage coming from Swansea to playing in a fully packed Old Trafford against Chelsea. He must have pee’d himself.

Not being funny but we haven’t won a league title in donkeys years their is no weight attached to this current shirt, unless it’s soaking wet.

@34m? Was it slow for Fowler; Owen, to name two of an endless list of others.
There's always exceptions. And sure, there seems to be a lot of exceptions. One every few years. How many every year go down the normal route though.... like I said. It's easily 90+% of players that have normal transitions, and its dumb to assume someone will be an exception and break through and instantly have a key role. It happened with Rashford due to an injury crisis. Greenwood is one of the best prospects we've ever had an he had a normal slow and smooth transition, despite being physically much bigger than Amad or Shola. He was in and out with some sub appearances and Europa League starts for half a season. I would say that Amad is at best in the stage that Greenwood was at in summer 2019, where he looks very talented and we're excited to see him, but him still being very young and will be used sparingly. Only our depth is much deeper now, so there will be fewer games where we'd be forced to use him. Shola being around the stage where Greenwood was at when Mourinho subbed him on in a pre season friendly as a 16 year old.

Happy to be proven wrong and would love to see him prove he's ready to be a starter already. I don't see it happening this season in any normal game. A dead rubber game, yeah sure. Next season more likely that he becomes an actual squad player. This season probably just some reserves and some subs when it's comfortable.

Also the price is irrelevant to how ready he is for first team football. He might be an absolute world class prospect. He looks quality at youth level. But it doesn't make him "more ready" for first team level from a physical POV.

I can understand the argument for him to start against La Real considering we're 4-0 up and in particular against Nacho Monreal who Facundo Pellistri caused problems to in a few passages of play for Alaves.

Also people forget that Amad was on his way to Parma at the start of the season and would've likely played a number of games in their first team if it hadn't been for us signing him.

Not sure if people dont know that or ignore that. He is not an unknown raw teenager. He was ready for first team football at senior level.

Because he’s said publicly they won’t be playing.

I get Shoretire not being ready yet but amad is clearly a level above and ready. He’s too good for the reserves and needs to take the next step. You only get that with actually playing!

And Gasperini put him on when he was chasing a game in the CL group stages.

He said they both won't be starting. I wouldn't be surprised if Amad did start, or at least get a decent 30 mins. Shoretire looks about 8 years old so I really don't think he should be starting anyway.

I myself would be annoyed if Amad got fewer than 15 mins but I'm going to reserve that until it's actually happened, rather than pre-empting it.

Ole said that neither Amad or Shoretire will start on Thursday, that he wouldn't do that to them. Probably the right thing to make sure the tie is truly over before giving them some minutes.
No idea what he even means with that. Would be a perfect opportunity for them. Ole seems to be afraid we might still bottle it

He should 100% start on Thursday. I don't think Shoretire is ready for that, but Amad looks to have what it takes already. If he doesn't start, I just hope he'll at least 45 minutes

I was quoting an earlier post which had already established that the bookies had it 80/1 for Real Sociedad to win by 4 goals or more. I was reasoning that those odds would assume we'd play a competent side with decent experience - which would make such a heavy loss unlikely. Definitely not odds on just team selection, even if the wording of my post may have suggested that!
So yeah if we yield our best side and they score five - 8,000?

His quote mentioned it wouldnt be fair to amad and shola to start them which is a bit bizarre to be honest

The impatience has more to do with us all waiting to see a natural right winger again after 5 or 6 years of players like Lingard and Mata doing a weak job there. The pressure is down to the people that decided to sign two equally inexperienced 18 year olds to fill our weakest position after all this wait, not the fans.
I feel that impatience too, no doubt. It’s been a mindnumbing exercise in neglect. Still, I don’t put my own feelings down to other people solely, and I certainly don’t think my impatience, regardless of causes, is what should determine the best way to implement teenagers into the squad.

Based on what I know first hand, I expect our current best options on RW is Greenwood - James - Rashford/Pogba - Mata - Diallo - Pellistri in that order, and I’ll be happy to be surprised. I want to see the development of Greenwood, Diallo, James and possibly Pellistri (have no idea if he’s worth it, tbh) prioritized to a degree, but that does not equate to fielding them ahead of Mata/Rasford/Pogba/Martial staring tomorrow.

Daniel James quote:
Amad has come in and, as a young lad, he’s been unbelievable in training,” James told the United Review

“I mean his professionalism [is very good] and he’s settled in straight away, I’d say, do you know what I mean?

“We see his quality in training, he has unbelievable feet, but we’ve seen he also presses well and wins the ball back, which is exactly what we want.”
We keep hearing good things :)

Give him 30 mins and let's see what he can do. Ease him into the side. The last thing we want is him getting overwhelmed and then subbed in the first half.

If he’s that out of his depth he won’t be good enough to make it here. He’s a wonder kid, I get people preach caution but he absolutely should be starting this game.

Rashford was younger with even less experience and we threw him into a premier league game with Arsenal.

I get wanting to be cautious but this is getting a bit silly. Bayern just played a 17 year old against Lazio in the knock out's of the CL.

Now is a great time to learn if he's got what it takes to help us with harder games coming up in the future.

Endless list?

He said 99% of academy graduates have to be integrated slowly to the first team.. so you pick out a few of the1% who made a rather quick transition. How is that an argument on your behalf?

There are 300 players in most big academies. 2 out of those 300 might make into the first team of the club they are currently playing at. 150 will move on and be professionals or semi professionals at a lesser club. The other 140 or so will have to find new careers altogether.

So when he says 99% he is actually a little out with that statistic... it's more than that, somewhere around 99.6%.

So you couldn't be more wrong Mainoldo. Again.

If I was manager of United, Diallo wouldn't be in my XI tonight. There are players well ahead of him in the queue who haven't gotten enough game time. Diallo was bought for the future.. Not for fecking February, 2021. Nor was he bought to satisfy the stoopid among the Man United fan base who don't have the patience to wait a few years, let alone months to see all that is happening come to fruition.

I will say this AGAIN, Mainoldo.

You would have sacked Ferguson in 1989...because you didn't have the patience for him to integrate Ryan Giggs into the team.... This is how dumb your posts are... If you had your way, this club would never have been successful, because all you're interested in is quick fixes and the immediate. This club's history of success was built on looking to the future, not the immediate. And for some reason, whatever the reason, you can't wrap your head around that.

You chose the wrong club to support. Clearly. Why don't you support Chelsea instead? They sack their managers regularly, like you want your managers sacked.

But sure you have absolutely no clue or no insight into the difference between these players at the same ages.

Diallo can't even speak English FFS.

You know nothing.

On what planet do you think you know better about Diallo's readiness than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does?

You also have to apply context to this.

Rashford played because we had no strikers in the EL and he scored. LVG was forced to play Rashford, it wasn't as if he had 4 strikers and chose Rashford.

Bayern playing a 17 year old, but it wasnt as if they got him in January and he played a knock out tie.

Please go have a look how he got integrated into the team. His first 5 games for the club this season were cameo sub appearances.

He has started a total of 3 league games out of 16. So no its not getting silly.

What you saying about that Goldie?

What am I saying about what?

The transfer fee?

It tells me that United invested heavily in a player that they think will have a bright future at the club. I'm pretty sure when they splashed out £34m (theyhaven't actually splashed out anything near that; they've paid £16m down and a further £18 can be reached over the course of a five year contract if Diallo becomes as good as we hope and reaches certain milestones) they weren't thinking about fecking February, 2021. They were thinking well beyond that. Years beyond it.

You know nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Diallo still doesn't have a house in Manchester (he is living with another player and has a hotel room).

Diallo doesn't even speak any English yet.

But feck it, some thicko with a stupid username on an internet forum thinks he should be playing for the first team now Goddamnit!!!

On what planet do you think you know better about Diallo's readiness than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does? Have you brought a five-year plan to Ed Woodward, showing him how the team should be shaped over the course of those five years? Do you have a detailed plan of how you would integrate youth in to the first team, like Ole has? Do you speak with academy coaches every day on the progress of the youth players, like Ole does?

No.

Well then you know nothing.
