Truth is his best role is as a winger, not wingback nor 10. In the 10 role especially when the game isn't stretched, there isn't much room to go 1 V 1 which he excels at. At Wingback he'll have to do more defensive work than ideal.
I think we'll see him continue to play both roles so far as Amorim is in charge.
Actually at Sunderland, his best came when he was moved more in field. He's not an out-and-out winger. In fact, I'd say his best position is as a wide 10. I think his attributes allow him to play both roles rather well, but I'd rather play him as a 10 if we have someone else who can reliably progress the ball forward

2 sub appearances, 2 assists and a goal.

I do wonder whether we'd have won more games with him players.
He missed 10 Premier League games with this latest injury. In 7 of them we either drew or lost by one goal. He could easily have been the difference in some of these.

Considering our squad, people championing for Amad at RWB is one of the weirdest niche arguments I've seen at the redcafe. And there have been many.

It's so specific and odd, I really do question how do they watch football.
I tend to think that ultimately he will be better at #10, but it's not so strange considering that this season he's probably been a bit better at RWB. That's most likely due to him getting isolated when played at #10 since the RWB behind him hasn't normally helped much (something that will hopefully be fixed one way or another next season), but it shows that he can be a quality option in either spot.

I think it's pretty clear that his best moments come when he gets the ball around the right side of the edge of the box. In that position he can go both ways, combine with an overlapping player or pick out a good pass to someone centrally.
So if he plays in the #10 position he will naturally drift out there, whereas in the RWB position he is already wide, but also has to run back more. None of the positions are really perfect.

I don't think there's much doubt we'd have won more matches with Amad. Over the last couple of months there's been quite a few games where we've been fairly comfortable over most of the field, but our attack has been completely and utterly toothless. Not only does that stop us scoring, but it's allowed the opposition to push higher up and throw more people forward and they've either held on for a draw or snatched a win. Put Amad in those matches and I expect we'd have won quite a few of them.

I agree …. I don’t think he will be expected to track back for 90mins.

Last night he played a No10 role (with Dorgu overlapping), but drifted wide and found space.

Whatever his position is, the team needs to be set up so that he is in space when we break. Getting him one on one with defenders as often as possible is probably our best route to goal.

He can be our right sided version of Kvara. The potential is immense and you can see the fear he brings to opposition defences.
"You cannot get the ball from him, the ball sticks to his feet, it's ridiculous. I read somewhere that someone said 'Ivorian Messi' and it's... basically yeah, this guy is really good" - Zirkzee

He was the catalyst in turning the game round, he immediately put them on the back foot, and I'm taking nothing away from Mount, who was class.

I can envisage him challenging for the Ballon D'or in a couple of years, his pace AND technical ability are not of this world.

His perfect position is right winger/forward which doesn't exist on this manager's formation.

Looks a very good fit for the 10 role in my eyes. He has the technical ability to link play up. Not the finished article by any means but I have high hopes for him (just not as a wingback)

It's funny. I get the mick taken out of me for banging on about signing press resistant players, but, when we finally get one in the team, the WHOLE fanbase is salivating.

Now imagine multiple Amad's across the pitch.

Anyway, he had the entire Bilbao team on toast:

His passing in those positions has to be one of the best in the pl.

As long as we can get him into one on ones and around the corner of their box, they can call his position whatever they want. He has the threat of the shot on his left but he's happy to go down the line and always seems to be looking for passes which is key.

I thought you got the mick taken out of you due to claiming Amrabat was the one?

I agree and hopefully manager adapts to the need of the better players on team making us stronger unit on attack. It will be waste of his talent to see him run back 90 minutes to track the winger and defend the back post.

Wait so we’ve got Dutch Ronaldinho and Ivorian Messi in our team? Next season will be movies

Amazing to see how so many in the crowd gets their ass off the seat when he gets on the ball. The anticipation from the people watching is probably not far off the most entertaining players to ever grace our shirt.
Also funny to see how he affects the teammates closest to him, they start playing with more confidence and flair. Dorgu for example suddenly felt like a new player.

He's a class act for sure, definitely has that x factor ability that can affect games in a second. He seems a great fella too so hopefully he has a long, injury free career at United because he will be one of our most important players going forward with the big squad turnover that looks imminent.

It’s funny because as soon as he is on the pitch (Mount also) we start playing one touch football, slick pass & move, flicks and all sort of things that you expect to see more often in any decent teams. That’s why I love players like that, they make everyone around them play better, involved more and all of a sudden Bilbao press is gone, couldn’t cope with us anymore. Imagine Zirkzee up top…

I love players that move with the ball the way he does, that sort of low centre of gravity, high agility, 'turn on a dime' style of dribbling with bursts of acceleration.

This is what I wrote in January and it still applies the same:

I think Amad has been most effective when he's not deep in his own half. It doesn't really matter whether that's at RWB or in the 10 but the context is that Amad is a sensible player and will very often do the right thing. This means he will always support the player behind him (as you should) and give them an easy pass. Our centre backs aren't that comfortable playing a higher line (even when Maz is at the RCB) so when Amad plays RWB, he will naturally be very deep.

The calls of him to play the 10 is because we shouldn't be accommodating players like Garnacho (in the 10) position to play Amad further back. In Bruno and Hojlund, we already have 2 bad hold up players, adding Garnacho to that list means we have Amad stuck in his own half trying to progress the ball but then rarely ever seeing it himself in the opposition half because it's such a struggle to keep it there.

Also Antony came on in as the 10 and from my memory didn't really change his position (which was high up the pitch) much. I don't think there was much of a swap but rather our whole team throwing caution to the wind to get the equaliser/winner and Amad just staying really high/wide and leaving Yoro to deal with Sulemana.

Amad's best performances as RWB came against the likes of Leicester and Everton so not sure why there's narrative of him being better there. It's nonsensical. Check the threadmarks and comments. There's always a recurring theme of 'we should have got Amad on the ball more'.

Agreed though that we should have seen more of Antony at RWB behind Amad.

'Considering our squad options' is probably doing a lot of heavy lifting for me in my posted you quoted but it's not an issue of whether Amad can be a viable option for us at RWB. Of course he can if the other options were Wirtz, Vinicius Jr, Rodryto, Bellingham like talent but we know it's not. So stop playing inferior players in front of him.

Mount and Amad playing with some form is really encouraging before the final. Add Cas and Bruno also performing at the best thats 4 of the 7 we need playing the final (not including CB and GK).

Thats what flair direct players do, they put pressue shift focus even when they are off the ball. That in turn relieves other more limited players to do their things and elevate to next level. Game after game it breeds confidence among the normies and suddenly you have a squad.

And to think we had a poster on here claiming we wouldn’t miss him when he got injured. The guy is pure class

Then eth has no excuse left. The Antony excuse was the most understandable.
He wanted very direct wingers since he couldn't get goals from his striker. It's the same reason he false 9 Zirkzee to play as a false 9. I'm far from Garnacho's fan but I can see why he's a preferred option for that style of play.

I remember watching Amad's face when he was brought on for the last few minutes – the Mazroui experiment – and he looked like he was about to burst into tears, only for Ruud to put an arm around him.

I thought right then; he wasn't going to stay beyond that summer. He was going to ask for a transfer that night.

Thank God, Buddha, Allah and Vishnu that he didnt.

Man Utd 0:2 West Ham New
Not his best game but I thought he was the bright spark in this team. One of the only attacking players who makes things happen. We need his for the final to stand any chance

Terrible again at defending from that position though.

Absolute nightmare for us having to try the find the 2 world class wingbacks that will make this system function in the PL.

Wasted as a wing back.

He can play there, he is young and hungry and will work up and down, but why put your best attacker in a position where he uses so much energy in deeper areas?

He was tasked with shadowing the fullback, whom we sold for not being effective enough going forward. That fullback was playing on the opposite side of his natural position. Instead of granting our best attacker the freedom to create and score in the final third, he is being asked to defend space that, in any other formation would be the responsibility of a fullback.

good game overall but he needs to work on crosses with left/right foot and work on diagonal passes to right like Salah, it's more for his game improvement.
