He was tasked with shadowing the fullback, whom we sold for not being effective enough going forward. That fullback was playing on the opposite side of his natural position. Instead of granting our best attacker the freedom to create and score in the final third, he is being asked to defend space that, in any other formation would be the responsibility of a fullback.

Didn’t see the game so can’t make a judgement but the replies are making me think that he won’t play at wingback in the final like a lot of people seem to want on here.

Culprit for both goals (tackling no mans land, and lacklustre back pass to Man Utd instead of going forward).
Incredibly harsh, especially the 2nd. Hardly his fault Ugarte decided to take a nap and give up possession through basically 0 contact in the middle of the park.

He should be RW in a 433. This 3421 is absolute nonsense.

Which is correct. He’s an attacker and should be playing as one. We don’t want Amad sliding around in our own box like he was for their goal today.

If it means Victor Lindelof playing to enable Mazraoui to play RWB then i'd rather Amad playing there. If we line up with the chuckle brothers both in defense for the final then we may aswell hand Spurs the cup now.

Amad is a good young talent has the potential to be a top player providing he stays fit.

A long way to go yet

From what I saw when him and Dorgu played on the same side as each other then it will work. One goes outside while the other goes inside, this is why RA wants the left footers on the right and vice versa so they can interchange for the wide positions and both can cut inside if more central.

Amad and Quenda as a RAM/RWB combo could’ve been nice to see.

You could make an argument that the majority of the squad would be best suited to a 433.

Yet we’ve now hired two managers in a row that absolutely refuse to play it. It’s unbelievably frustrating.

Would encourage you to watch the game again (not that anybody would want to) and I can't post media yet to time stamp.

but...

If you watch the extended highlights you'll see Amad run/burst 40/50m to start a counter with 6 West Ham players committed in our half, and some very half-arsed off the ball movement from our own players. He recycles the ball to maintain possession. Ugarte mustn't get a call about a man on, or is asleep and loses out and then our players are beaten in a 2v3/3v4 and at the mercy of an incredible deflection falling on a plate for West Ham.

Ugarte, Bruno and every single United CB could've done better there and got caught completely flat footed; Amad shouldn't even be in the conversation.

There is a bit of a strange attitude in our fanbase where they feel the need to blame the best performing players even when every else is playing terribly. I don't understand it personally as Amad was our best player. If there is one player we don't have a problem with it's him.

I personally am relieved that we finally seem to have a good winger in the squad. Not yet world beater but finally someone capable and having that dare I say fear factor.

Yes, but they (being the hypercritical segment of our fanbase) are blaming not only the best peforming players but all of our players and with lots of hyperbole. One bad or average game and knives are out. People really need to calm down

Thats what flair direct players do, they put pressue shift focus even when they are off the ball. That in turn relieves other more limited players to do their things and elevate to next level. Game after game it breeds confidence among the normies and suddenly you have a squad.
These players make the defenders uncomfortable, hence they play differently than the rest of our team. Huge difference and you see it with other players like Yamal, Doue, Amad. Only difference is that Amad is the only one in our team capable of doing that

SAF always had such 1-2 players all over the pitch, the flair live wires that requires them to adapt to us and not the other way around. Nowadays teams just ganging up on our the one decent player like bruno and amad, and the rest pass it back to onana and he then commits defensive suicide on his own. Easy peasy.

I stumbled upon Amad's goals highlight reel from his time at Sunderland. I was surprised by the goals he scored from outside of the box, they just looked so vicious... Was curious if someone who followed him closely during his time there could shed some light on his hit-rate for shots from a distance? (obviously can't tell that from a youtube highlight reel).

I really wish he had the opportunity to play under Fergie. He would wreak 10,times more havoc. He is a Fergie player through and through.

Chelsea 1:0 Man Utd New
Please bring your A game to the final

Love Amad but Cucurella pocketed him today. Still created a couple of half chances. Needs to up his game against Spurs

He's not that good, is he?

A total form player.

Could do worse than offload him in the summer if the money is right (60 million plus).

Poor tonight (his playing style was so uncharacteristically passive in the first half that I felt that it might be tactical but I think he just didn't fancied himself to get one over Cuccurella). Did better in the second half and created most of our limited chances.

Fitness is fitness. Do us proud in the final please!

Player coming back from injury, first 90 minutes since he came back and this is your honest response?

Was better in the second half and created our only chances, not his best game.

He needed the minutes, was double or even triple marked at times because Chelsea knew he was our only threat, even then he made a few opportunities.

I think he needs to be at wingback. Getting the ball wider in more space suits him. He's had a lot of quiet games in the 10 slot.

He was poor but Cucurella had inside support and cover behind him so I'd understand why Amad was a bit hesitant on taking him on.

Anyways a game to forget for him for now. Just turn up on Wednesday please.

I feel for him playing next to Rasmus and Mount up front, even Maradona would struggle ... Good he got 90 minutes under his belt... On to the final now

Poor first half followed by better 2nd half where he created a chance for Bruno and had a chance himself (our only shot on target as well). Not his best game but guess most important thing is getting minutes before the final. Should Amorim start him in WB position or as a 10? One of important decisions for the final.

I know we can go on like he’s perfect here but he seriously needs to add some range to his passing. He’s pretty limited in his creative passing, it’s all cutbacks or passes across the box for shots on goal and all of this is after dribbling. He’s very good at doing this and gets assists through this but it is a bit predictable.

His open play crossing, cross field play, passes over the top and first time passes into the channel are all lacking. He needs to develop this aspect of his game. Not everything can be nearby passes to feet.

If he has a game like today where he struggles to get by his marker, his passing limitations show a lot more. Nani could have games where he was abysmal at dribbling but he still had the ability to put in a ball of top quality with either foot.
