Christ, there is dozens of good cheap keepers, at least funcional unlike Onana. Why would you go back to DDG asking for fortune, doesnt make sense.

I think we technically improve just by selling this guy and not having him as an option. Hopefully another game to go and he fecks off. Disastrous goalkeeper.

Wanted to take a break from caf but couldn't resist to log in and say something about this supposedly modern keeper who would "transform" the way we play. Yes he did indeed transform us. He made our entire backline shit their pants every time someone is near the box because they know this particular keeper has a reaction of a cat (if it was chonky) and has a slippy pair of hands he buttered before each game.

But you have to be ignorant not to notice his mistakes in other games over 2 seasons and how he doesn't have attributes of a top keeper. - Stretching - rubbish, can't even do a full stretch with one arm out, most of the time he has to use both hands to parry the ball!
- Positioning - rubbish, which makes point 1) even worse
- Reflex - rubbish, at times found ball watching, accepting his fate as the ball enters his goal
- Communication - rubbish, he can quote Sun Tzu's Art of War to our backline and I doubt they'd give any shit about it when he can't even do the basics right
- Ball playing - rubbish, we need the ball as far away from him, not near. Ball near Onana = closer to Oh, no, no
- Mentality - seemed rubbish? atleast not really his strong point. He looked like he's just eaten a large burrito and gone on a rollercoaster loop three times because he looked nervous as feck in that final game. If I was playing and looked at Onana I knew we're gonna lose. Karius vibes

DeGea would have done a kick save. He seemed to be really good with keeping out those low shots that Onana likes to dive over.

I'll bet you in 5-a-sides and any short numbered games and drills he's dynamite. In training he probably crushes it because of those things, but in a real game when it's hard to stay focused, and footwork and reflexes are paramount, he just doesn't have it.

The problem is that it's not just us he's struggled with, had so many gafs at his previous clubs too, for some reason we overlooked that. It's funny how the only Europa final we've won was against him.

Lack of fundamentals. I didn't see Inter enough to know if he did that while he was over there, but I cannot see an Italian goalkeeping coach allowing this

To his credit, this has led to him registering more assists than any other United player this season.

He literally could have taken a step to his right and reached down to pick up the ball - One day we will find out the truth about this guy and it will finally be obvious why these "mistakes" have been happening - mainly in games where United have a large viewing / betting audience.

Number 1 priority to sell this guy. Vicario did one howler as well, but I was reviewing the game and all the punches that he made from saves went to sidelines. If Onana was is his position you know that the ball would go straight to the middle.

Hes simply a poor keeper in every respect. Even his ball playing abilities were drastically overestimated and thats got to be the biggest part of why we bought him.
Watching him for Inter in the CL final a few years ago he was sublime. Absolutely top class in every way. Top top performance. Surely we did our due diligence though and didn't buy him based largely on that.

the thing with Onana, something about his technique seems off. He seems flat/heavy footed at times. Plus there's that tendency to push shots back into the danger zone. those bad habits aren't going away.

We should have tried harder for Raya instead of Onana. Raya is a solid all round keeper, suited to the prem, and would have been cheaper.
It all starts in midfield.

It's a shit goal no matter what way you look at it. Onana's effort was probably the least shit out of all the players involved in that goal.
Raya was the obvious choice, cost just over 30M and Arsenal had to do a loan with obligation whereas we were able to go for a straight purchase in that window as evidenced by wasting around 50M on this spoofer. Just think, we could have had a genuinely top class keeper and 20M for another signing but instead we had to get Erik one of his pets. I doubt we can find a buyer for Onana but he should be loaned to an easier league and we need to sign a decent replacement. You can get a goalkeeper who is at least competent at the basics without breaking the bank.
I was watching MUTF the other night and it had the Man Utd v Ajax EL final from 2017, lo and behold, Onana was in goal for them (didn't know he played for them so it was a surprise).
