I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I think the fact that he won the golden gloves in his final season, coupled with the better-than-average performance ratings and the fact that he's still going and still looking ok probably shows that he WAS serviceable at the time but it's clear you'll never agree. De gea was good enough for a season or two after - the need to replace him was overblown by ETH and online tacticos. Yes, he was coming to the end of the road with us but he was fine for a couple of seasons while we prioritised strengthening in more important areas.
The posted video highlights how weak he was at kicking the ball but not many of them are poor goalkeeping. Plenty of them have nothing to do with the keeper at all. You chose a bad video if you wanted to highlight his goalkeeping mistakes. I'm sure there are more suitable ones out there if you want to make that point.
Onana being so terrible has led to far too much revisionism over DDG's last few years here.

DDG always had weaknesses. He made defenders worse because he was quiet, didn’t communicate, didn’t organise. He made teams less fluid because he was limited with his feet. He created uncertainty by not commanding his penalty area. But as a sheer shot stopper, he was miraculous. Once that started to go, agree, it was time to move him on. It’s just a shame we have brought in goalkeepers who are undeniably inferior to his current level.
DDG's biggest weakness which started to show more towards the end of his tenure at Utd was his absolute refusal to ever leave his line no matter the circumstances and it cost the team a lot in his last years here. But the thing is Onana is the same as DDG when it comes to that, the guy never leaves his line but he doesnt have the otherworldly shotstopping that DDG had. It's puzzling that whoever made that decision saw DDG's biggest weakness and decided to buy a keeper that had the exact same weakness (while being worse at every other aspect of goalkeeping)

We still just have another error-prone keeper in Bayindir and a fully unproven youngster in Lammens. Onana might still be thinking he can turn it around.
Makes perfect sense. There was no way we were going to ride with Lammens, Onana, and Altay - so one of the latter two had to go.
I think it’s entirely possible that he’s both utterly pony and also the best available option we have at the club for the rest of the season. Not sure I really get the gamble on Lammens and Bayindir. One of them we already know is not good enough and the other is coming from a level of football way, way below what he is about to experience

I hope I'm wrong, but he seems overly confident in his own "abilities", which has cost him before. This is why I truly believe that he actually thinks he can get back to number 1, and will decide to stay at United, and refuse to go to Turkey.

Makes sense it's them as they just sold their goalkeeper to Galatasaray. Hopefully he accepts it. Surely playing for a year is better than being third choice
