I don't think that's a big consideration. Even factoring in how poor he's been for us, he's still far and away the best Cameroonian keeper. His backup is a journeyman who has spent his career knocking around the Romanian, Greek and Cypriot leagues, and the guy after that has a couple of games in the French second tier to his name.

The only time he's been dropped for the national team is when he's had a row with their manager.

Personally, I've got a lot more faith in 'unproven' than 'proven to be bad'.

We have a good keeper and a backup who isn't likely to play much, plus Heaton. That's good enough imo, especially if it means seeing the back of Onana.
 
I said it earlier in the summer but now I'm pretty certain that Jacobs and Crook are now indykalia. Probably post the news as indykalia when they get first wind of a transfer/transfer related news and when they have it confirmed they post it on their personal accounts.
 
Finally we are acting like a big club. Ruthless. Dont care if Lammens is worse but message is clear. Perform or get out.

Who's who? I hope Lammens is great, but realistically there will be an adaptation period. I just hope to see less of Bayindir.

I don't think that's as important for keepers as with outfield players. City are almost certainly going to start Donnarumma, who has never played in the PL and didn't play in any games for PSG this year. Lammens has already played in 3 games for Antwerp this season and should be sufficiently match fit to start imo.

You can't compare Donnarumma with Lammens.. one just won the CL and has immense international experience and the other played in an obscure league and is very young for a GK. Match fit is one thing, the step up from belgian league to Premier League, the pressure of being Antwerp goalkeeper and United are two different worlds.

GK at Manchester United is one of the hardest jobs in football.

I don't equate winning the CL or losing the Fifa Club World Cup months ago with being more ready than a player who has actually played competitive matches recently. The most important factor isn't name recognition or whether you've previously heard of a player - its their actual fitness level and whether they are actually prepared for competitive football matches in the present.
 
Getting rid of Onana is one of the best decisions we could have made.

He's an absolute clown. Even if Lammens turns out to be rubbish, it'd be almost impossible for a professional keeper to be as bad as Onana was.

Hence the "being match fit is one thing" in my post. Of course they won't start Donnarumma if he's not fit. But he will adapt to PL quicker because of his experience.
 
Be fair to the guy. He gave us tons of great memories as well. The Arsenal game where he made a record equalling 14 saves, the Spurs and Everton games where we won because of him, the time he stole a donut from a sh-no, wait I'm thinking of De Gea.

In actual fairness to him, he was the second coming of Lev Yashin for about 3 months at the end of Ten Hag's reign. :lol:



He also made one of the greatest penalty saves I've ever seen in that Grimsby shootout... just a shame about the 3 or 4 weak ones he gently palmed into the net.
 
Without doubt, one of the worst keepers I've ever seen us had.

Ten Hag absolutely crippled the club with his signings

The feck you’re doing? The official line of the Caf is that de Gea was always a terrible mercenary, deserved no respect and no proper goodbye, won us no points and had to be replaced with a guy whose ball playing ability will get us more points than proper goalkeeping, which is exactly what happened
 
I suspect he'll resurrect his career somewhere he's not under an intense spotlight.

Brace yourself for some highlight reel saves, opposition fans laughing at United saying "should never have let him go" and an inevitable transfer to Napoli next summer.
