He gets grief not because of the colour of the skin, but because he is absolutely fecking dreadful, has been from virtually day one and then he has the temerity to think he deserves a new contract on more money. Adding to the absurdity of it all - in the same summer we also let Dean Henderson and Matej Kovar go to other clubs. Henderson alone, would've outperformed Onana, so whoever approved transfers that summer (John Murtaugh and Richard Arnold) should hang their heads in shame. I'm sure ten Hag was elbow deep into all of this as well.

Things can very quickly change in football when you start making good decisions. Honestly the last 12 months has given me a lot of hope that we're back to being a proper football club again.
From seeing it with people with substantial means with foundations during my career. Not saying it’s not a good gesture, but usually the money comes from donors, not the individuals. Prime example is Rashford didn’t pay for any school meals himself if I’m not mistaken.
The biggest question mark remains the mental capability of the players at the club to battle through the tough times. Hojlund may or may not be a world class striker, but he shouldn’t be a 4 league goal player as well. Can the remaining players be motivated by either carrot or stick approach to become a team which is more than the sum of it’s parts? I look at some of our more senior players like Bruno, Maguire, Shaw, Dalot and that’s the part which fills me with pessimism.
The fecking worst full time goalkeeper I've ever seen at United. Absolutely horrendous. Clearly a nice guy and a likeable person, so I can see why people are conned into thinking "I want it to work for him", but Erik Ten Hag needs to answer some big questions signing him. Surely he knew he was a disaster. I'm a man who was gutted when Rojo left, so I'm soft as shite when it comes to giving crap players another chance. But good riddance on this one.

I have no regrets about this. There's no universe in which we should be giving 375k p/w to DDG who was at best a mid table keeper by the time the renewal came up.
Transfers succeed, transfers fail, but if you use the same logic (total cost to club is low if you pay large wages over 5 years vs buying new), you'll be stuck with overpaid divas like Rashford who will be impossible to move on.
You have to do this extremely selectively -- like Liverpool's Salah / VVD situation. Even that is looking a bit questionable now with Salah's decline.
I think the bigger questions to ask are: (I don't agree with the entire take, but ask yourself why we did a 180 after committing to Onana x Bayandir for the season. There are public comments by Amorim along these lines.)

And yet look at the damage the logic you're defending created. We didn't just lose money, we were forced to start Onana for two seasons culminating in a 15th place finish. Was the worst league result in generations worth saving £20m on Dave's wages ?
And we got rid of Rashford and seemingly replaced him just fine with guys like Mbeumo. Do you think we should've given Rashford the 350k p/w contract? Or should we have cashed in and signed a replacement?
The questions to ask for me is why Onana was signed and why he failed, not why DDG wasn't renewed.

De Gea could've been renewed at a lower wage as it was clear he didn't want to go. I happen to take Rio's view on the issue. Whoever was pushing him out should've been sacked.

We’ve all seen de Gea struggle to make that pass to the left back when being pressed from his left and his reflexes were also starting to go, so moving in from him wasn’t the worst decision. Paying 50M for this clown on the other hand is a terrible one.
