André Onana | Loaned to Trabzonspor

The b@stard comes back to us and gets a pay rise because we are in the CL.

That seems so ironic - given he was the no 1 cause of us not being in the CL and being knocked out early previously.

If the league are moving to a different financial model - then we might be able to bin him off early.

Does he have any dignity? He knows he has zero future at the club, and shouldn’t even come back to the UK.

Let’s hope he has a good agent.

A good agent would tell him to stay at United as long as possible and milk the contract for all it's worth since he won't be getting anywhere near it elsewhere.

Nah he’s just absolutely fecking shit.

Watch the Ziyech one, it’s impressive he gets it in the goal.

He earns millions of pounds per year. He’s not going to throw matches for a few quid.

He is just bad, so so bad.

I despise him for his attitude and misplaced arrogance. He’s an appalling keeper to boot, but he’s not throwing matches.

That’s wrong. An agent acts on behalf of the player, and it’s not all about money.

Does he want to play? Does he want a future? A good agent will find a solution to ensure that he can get his career back on track.

Agreed. Another loan with United covering half the wages. I can’t imagine we manage to shift him, but one can hope.

So many people in here assume players should just sit on their contracts and earn the money while not playing. It’s obviously completely acceptable but it’s also complete waste of a career, or large portion of a career. Any player that does this is not a professional athlete with any kind of ambition or integrity.

Deserves a chance in cup games.

Absolutely not. Worst keeper we’ve had in my 50+ years of watching United and I’ve seen some rubbish for sure.
If it comes out in the future he was involved in match-fixing I would not be surprised.

Hes not going anywhere. His wages will be an issue and thats ignoring any fee we might want. Keepers are a funny breed and once people have made their minds up on you, every error is a catastrophe, every goal should have been a save and thats commenting on average to decent keepers. Onana was so bad for us that genuinely we would likely have been mid table this season with him in goal.

He's never going to displace Lammens. Hopefully he will realize he's never getting the #1 spot back and tells his agent to find him a new club.

His book value is £20m. No chance anybody pays anything close to that.

Trabzonspor want to keep him next season, and their record signings are 7 and 6 million pound players signed this summer.

We might have to loan him back out again.

It’s The Mirror. So highly credible and reputable sauce. But I’ll take it!

If they pay for his airfare, I think we can get a deal.

«"The fans like him too. He’s a decent bloke. I don’t think we’ll have any problems. I don’t think he’ll find the same level of interest in him anywhere else. So I think he’ll stay with the team."»

Heartwarming. «Decent bloke, no one else really wants him»

Best case scenario is another season on loan at Trabzonspor with an obligation for around €5-10m. Decent chance he gets Sancho’d and just stays on loan til his contract expires.

And I don’t think he’s a match fixer, he’s just shit.

You’re right. He made it to a CL final. Originally I was thinking just sell him for 6 million to them but if we loan him elsewhere we could sell him for much more.

Sorry to double post but that fee could make sense for them but if he’s loaned elsewhere (desperate team for a goal keeper whether it’s Italy or Bundesliga) his value will be more than that

I do think there’ll always be a club somewhere in Europe that, through late transfer out or long term injury, suddenly needs a keeper and will take him on loan, however, I disagree on price. His wages are too high. He’s on over £150k a week, so no one is ever going to pay £15-20m for him and then give him a salary he’ll accept. Too much of a total financial commitment. It’s not like he’ll be signing for Real or Bayern.

Honestly we would be extremely lucky to get £3-4m for him.

His wages are obscene for such a crap keeper.

If anyone is mad enough to buy him, it’s obviously not going to be a top club, so they won’t be able to afford a fee on top of wages.

Alternatives that are as good as him are ten a penny, and on far far lower wages than him.

I’d happily take a loan back to them but if we can sort one where it becomes permanent next summer for his remaining book value (I assume they can’t afford him now), then even better.

Article mentions Besiktas interest but aren’t they the club linked with Bayindir so they can have him instead.

Loan or sell for any fee. Not good enough for number two keeper even. Bayindir is also as bad and not good enough for number two, but has low wages. Both must go this summer even if we give them away. Don’t care about book value, have to go.

Good luck to him if he goes there, best thing for all concerned. I always thought he seemed a decent enough guy even if he was largely absolutely dreadful at his job.

Really?

After laying onto Maguire when he was an easy target and after asking for a pay rise when it was almost entirely his fault we weren’t in the CL? Just a couple of examples, maybe he tells good jokes, he is a clown after all…

He is an absolute arse, and appalling at his job.

The shittest keeper I’ve ever seen

Absolute joke that we signed him and it was never funny

A contender for worst ever signing.

£45m plus 150k a week for someone that plays like a non league player!

So many basic mistakes and errors. It's staggering that he played over 100 games in all competitions before he was binned off!

When you factor in the costs financially and point wise, cup no exits etc because of his errors, then he’s the worst in my lifetime

He's allowed to ask. We're allowed to tell him to feck off. Being delusional doesn't make you an arsehole, tbh it used to be almost mandatory for keepers.

I agree. We've had some truly terrible signings with bad, but isolated, financial implications in the past (DVB, Sancho, Antony come to mind in recent years) but never has there been one who has wrecked havoc at so many levels and dragged down the team single handedly for multiple seasons. Whoever recommended and approved him should never have another job in football.

Worst United keeper in my lifetime and that's a lifetime that includes Taibi!

Knocked us out of a number of competitions and played a part in losing to Spurs in the EL final. Constantly kept getting beaten at his near post

Yep same. Taibi being binned after four games leaves less scars than watching two full seasons (and an unforgettable performance at Grimsby) of Onana.

Precisely. I can’t stand Sancho, but on the pitch he was a lukewarm bowl of “meh”.

I still cannot fathom how any professional keeper could’ve let that Gibbs-White goal in.

This is why I rate him at the worst signing in our entire history.

If he was binned immediately, he would still have been an expensive disaster - but not have been the root cause of train wreck after train wreck across two seasons.

The train wreck was worsened by the fact that our attack was also incredibly blunt, and couldn't make up for the chaos Onana was bringing on a weekly basis.

I think his attitude towards teammates does show that.

What makes you think he’s a good chap?

Dunno, he always seemed to turn up and try, teammates and coaches didn't seem to dislike him even if he made them uneasy, just middle of the road if rather overconfident character it seemed to me.
