I can definitely understand people saying he’s the worst signing we’ve ever made and it’s hard to make a case for him not to be, but a bit like Sanchez you could, charitably, give him points for at least trying even if he was useless. There was even talk of him wanting to come back to prove himself (no thanks mate!)
In contrast, Sancho and Di Maria annoy me more for not even trying and clearly wanting out (although Di Maria did start well and had some good moments) .

That’s true. Contract till 2028 and I suppose he could just see it out but that lack of playing time in top leagues may be too detrimental. Also if he’s got a decent agent they should know to take a pay cut and get playing time means possibility of signing long term for a bigger club. He technically could just do another loan for a year on the same wages and then take a pay cut next summer till 2028 but is that’s what’s best for him
I think this way too. As bad as Butterfingers was, he seemed like he genuinely cared and wanted to do well.
Sancho is a worse signing by far in my opinion because he didn't care and couldn't be bothered even trying to hide it. Di Maria I have a little more understanding for seeing as he openly never wanted to come to us in the first place and the robbery really messed up both him and his family. Still a twat though.
Agreed, Sancho is easily our worst ever signing.
I'm not even joking, but I remember saying a while back watching him play it genuinely looked like we'd had a 'keeper sent off and some poor outfield player had put his hand up to try out in goal to help out.
The goals he conceded were the weakest, softest goals I'd ever seen.

he is fundamentally hideous, so many of the goals he let in he alone made look like good finishes.

Why do our fans not understand this? We cannot sell these average players because they're on outrageous wages. We're not going to sell Rashford or Onana or the likes. It will take a little while to get over our previous mismanagement

He is on a huge wage and is a terrible goalkeeper. Turkish tax laws means he can be paid more than he would receive here, and if the club is paying a fee and covers most/all of the wages, I think that should be seen as a success.
It's got basically nothing with our ability to sell players. It's a consequence of us being rubbish at evaluating how much we should be paying these players (and if we should be signing them at all).
We can hopefully do the same in 27/28 and wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.

Let's use the card everyone on the caf loves, "it's too early in the transfer window, lots of time left" , was it then worth trying to sell him for a very small fee and see if there's interest due his high wages, and then loan him later in the window if there is no buyers

Well they are apparantly paying a loan fee so that is likley as good a deal as we were going to get. Trabzonspor seem to have taken a shine to him last season and they were alreasdy briefing that they had th emoney to pay his salary so if they are doing that and chucking us a couple of million by way of a fee then that is a heck of a lot more than I would have expected for a goalkeeper who appear to have an allergy to keeping the ball out of the net.

There’s not a top club who would go near him. There are 100 better keepers in Europe that you could get, and all be on a lower wage.
He’s found his level, and we are very fortunate that they are covering his pay.
He would have no book value at that point so no. Right now he is likely still showing as a 20M asset which is converted to a loss if he is sold for less.

It's not. Because of amortization if we were to sell him now for 0, we would have to book a loss of 40% (2 / 5 years of contract left) of his transfer, which is 17.5m. As it is we will only have a loss of 20%. So basically we are delaying that cost for year. Maybe next year, we will be able to offload him permanently for a minimal fee, so that he doesn't cause a loss on the books.
He's been on loan for a year and unwanted at united. If anybody wanted him, they'd have contacted us already. Now, it's not impossible that an interest might arise. But Trabzonspor might not want him then and presumably he wants to go there too again. I don't know if he has taken a wage cut, but helping players might make them more malleable to not demand being bought off when leaving.
