André Onana (Out)

Most clubs in Europe do not pay their goalies that kind of money…
Shouldn't Monaco be able to offer him a substantially lower package and still be competitive due to the tax situation over there though?

Ive been one to say that we have bigger priorities than Onana this summer but god, watching that is absolutely brutal. So many similar goals to concede too, just horrendous technical ability.

Get him gone.
I was worried everytime a shot came towards our goal the last few weeks or months towards the end of the season while watching us. It's a very tiring feeling tbh. Want him gone asap, but I also know that we need a CM and a ST.

An appalling collection of howlers. I probably wouldn’t blame him for the last one getting lobbed, and we gave away the ball poorly beforehand.

But as pointed out, that doesn’t even include some of his mistakes, and the amount of times he puts the defence under pressure by not releasing the ball quickly, allowing the press to reset and passing it sideways into the corners.

You see a video like that yet still have people say the stats only have him at fault for a few goals

Please no, no stay, god no. Please no.

He is not bad, but terribly bad.

That's horrendous. Seeing them all together is quite something - has to be top three worst keepers I've ever seen at United.

Yes that is true... But he’s making too much for them to be able to bridge the gap only on taxes while staying inside their wage structure. Currently Monaco‘s highest earners Golovin, Musrati and Zakaria are all making around €3,6M gross per year (Looks like a salary cap for them…). That’s €69k per week…Their best paid keeper is making less than half that (€30k)

André Onana is currently making a net salary of €80k/week…

With players like Onana (Hojlund, Dorgu, Ugarte) i seriously start to question what exactly our scouts/recruiting department actually do.
Casual fan who watched his Inter youtube clips could notice that guy is awful shot stopper and struggles with basic goalkeeping technique. How on earth someone didn't point at that when Murtough decided to pay 50 mil for him?
How we manage to constantly buy players with serious flaws?

Dorgu already written off?

No. But his lack of technique is very concerning. For me at least. He does have other traits in which he excels though.
I agree with that. It's convincing how we never seem to go for technically proficient players

Ben Foster said on his podcast fairly recently that if he was a manager signing a goalkeeper, the first thing he'd want to see is a compilation of his mistakes. His reasoning was he would be able to tell if it was a case of the goalkeeper having the right reasoning but maybe not executing it well enough or just not being technically good enough.

With Onana it's clearly the latter. I've never seen a goalkeeper make so many inexcusable errors.

He has to move on this summer, it should have been a number one priority. The team will never get anywhere with a player so hopelessly out of their depth.

Worse and more howlers than Karius at Liverpool. Karius stands out for a lot because of the particular profile of those matches, but Onana's aren't far off.

Not only his mistakes, he has a lot of weird "trademark".

1) the delayed dive after the shot passed him into the goal.

2) froze there watching the shot passed him into the goal

3) parry the shot right back into dangerous penalty area

I have never seen a GK with such bad reaction.

This is why I'm baffled people defend him over the Europa League final goal (which didn't even make the mistake compilation video, but it should have).

We know he has terrible instincts and very slow reactions. For a keeper with terrible instincts and very slow reactions to get such a significant hand on the ball, it's only logical a good keeper saves it.

You know when a player says they want to stay it means they’ve been poor and can’t get a better contract elsewhere.

PSR is the reason he'll remain. His book value is around 30 million and there is no hope we get even a fraction of that. He'll be here in September, let's just hope as a number 2.

Get him out of are club, no places to fight for there all reservred

I'd loan him out. Get a bit of a loan fee for him but just get him away. It would be better all round.

Even he must realise that he'll never have the confidence of this team or fan base.

Fake rumour from a fake source shut down by Romano. The UtdFaithfuls account that spread it should be banned here.

I'm usually quite supportive with our players and want to give them another chance (or two/three), but this guy is absolute bobbins and needs to leave ASAP

Unsurprisingly it doesn't sound like anyone is interested in him though

Unfortunately it looks like a Kepa situation at Chelsea. Was hoping the Saudi and Monaco rumours were true. We probably stuck with him. Easily the worst keeper I have seen at the club since Roy Carroll

Between wages and amortisation, we’re stuck with him. He’s probably still of the mindset where he’s backing himself to turn it around too.

Our only option this summer is to upgrade Bayindir and the improved competition either forces Onana to up his performances (highly unlikely) or takes the starting spot from him.

6 months on the bench and he might want to leave next summer.

We should just buy a run of the mill keeper for £5m in that case. Stick Onana on the bench if he doesn’t want to leave by his own volition.

I’m in my early 30s and this is certainly the first time I’ve felt so ill-confident in us keeping a clean sheet with him in goal.

There was a period during 2004-2005 with Carroll and Howard. I had the same feeling back then. It is just our team was way better then.

So depressing watching all of that, wtaf was Ten Hag doing recommending this clown.

A few people have come in here and posted things like he only made 4 or 5 errors last year. If ever there's an argument for stats not telling the whole story.

You see the videos, you feel as a fan unconfident for opposition corners/ set pieces/shots in general.

It's not just his mistake it's the lack of confidence the defenders have in him and when he makes a blunder, the whole team drops in confidence.

The manager can't play him next year, whether we get a top quality keeper in or an older/cheaper option, we need to build confidence at the back.

Probably leveraging his network to get some commissions from the crazy fee we paid for him…
That is what happens when manager is trying to be smarter than everybody else.
ETH was obsessed with ball playing skill and gave them priority over traits which position primary needs.
Onana, Lisandro, Antony and Mount are all great with the ball in their feet regarding passing and ball control but they all lack traits needed for their position.

We still have Bayindir...right? There's been no noise around him leaving at all.

Maybe Vitek gets a shot this season.

I'd say sell Bayindir and some kids and get vanja as no 2. He's a powerful old school keeper who would quickly put onana on the bench and would cost around 15m. Then I believe onana himself would want to leavr
