It's plainly incorrect. As I have said Pereira assisted Martial on matchday one against Chelsea. Everyone who watched that game will remember that, and the highlights are freely available on youtube. Kinda casts some shadow of doubt on the niceness of this website.

Yes I remember that goal, it may be that Pereira didnt played as a RW that game so the assist counts as him playing as CAM. Anyway, you can add that assist if you want to, still James have far better numbers.

Manchester Utd never lose, just run out of time
James is not better than Perreira from the right..at all
Debatable. Both are probably better in other positions (James on the left, Pereira #10), but comparing them on the right James' best games have definitely been better and his average has probably been better as well.

It was all the games that Lingard and Mata were getting that Pereira should feel annoyed about. They were both atrocious all season up until Mata finally kicked into form in the last month before lock-down.

James is way better than Andreas on the right.

It's ridiculous to suggest otherwise.

It's not even debatable. James is and has been the better player on the right than Pereira. What were these posters even watching?

James has been good for us this season. Just because he had 2 months off form period in January & February doesn't mean you should write off the others 5 months when he's been very good. He also played very well in his last two league games end of Feb & March.

surprised this thread is still going!

Back in August I truly had high hopes that these 2 would spur each other on to battle it out to be first choice #10 - in the end its a battle to see who will be first out the door. I think its probably Lingard who is in desperate need of a fresh start, had an awful season - Pereira will be on much lower wages so can stick around as a squad option if he wants

He wasn't good for 5 months, he was good for a few weeks. And he played best from the left...that's the point.

It is ridiculous to compare the 2 because i think they are both incapable of being the one who can play as part of the starting XI and what's worse we don't even know their favorite position nor do they. Let's us throw all of that aside and think in the football perspective, can either of them really play a convincing game of football? I haven't seen either of them make a huge impact even against smaller opponents which means they aren't even worth rotating. I say move them on, if Arsenal want Lingard good enough. Sell him to the Gunners and if Perriera gets a call from any football club, move him on too because we can get better players to rotate and we need a championship quality squad. Right now, we need a few more than 3 players from the current summer window but lets be realistic, that's not going to happen. Let's just play Mata, Matic, Fosu-Mensah, Tuanxebe, Gomes and such instead of these two. I think they can do better. Lingard's movement is great, make no mistake but every other aspect of his game is poor. Perriera makes a lot of mistake on the pitch and under pressure they're utterly useless.

Invalid point because what you said is not true.
Rather than copying my sentence, what about you be more creative enough to defend your point. A point without something to back it up is invalid point.

I would rather believe what I watched than a poster who decided to judge player based on goals. It's not coincidence you said he was only good on the left & few weeks only because that's the only time when he scored & won United player of the month. You're ignoring his performance against Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Brighton, Norwich, City, Spurs, Burnley and etc. Those games were not coming from left wing and few weeks only.

Oh so you know how to articulate yourself after all? Next time take your own advice and type out a meaningful argument.

If he scored more goals (actually all his goals) from one side of the pitch, it is clear that he is much better on that side than he is on any other. By what metrics can you show that he had good games for 5 months?

Player of the month on the left, and anonymous on the right, and you are here trying to show that he has been consistently good. For an out and out attacker that is measured in goals and assists...so 3 goals and 6 assists for an attacking winger is very good to you over 5 months?

Klopp cleared out Liverpool from more than 30 players in last years, while United fans still discussing who's better, shit or the piss.

Once again you are judging him based on goals. I wasn't the only ones he had good games for the other 5 months.

So you counter stats which are objective with random, handpicked opinions which are subjective and in many cases qualified by A. How bad the team was and B. how much the player costs. Is this a rational approach? If you think so, we must agree to disagree on the subject of Dan James and Pereira.

This is basically my reaction now. The same reaction that Roy had when Carragher said Giggs wasn't good enough to be in combined XI of United treble & Liverpool because he only scored 3 league goals.

Laughable. You don't judge player's performance based on goals, players can perform good without scoring goals. What's next? Giggs was shit in 98/99?

I watched the games and I know how James & Pereira performed this season, there are people in here watched the games and they know how James & Pereira performed this season. It's not random & handpicked opinion, many people are watching the games and had the same opinion as mine, while no one agree with you.

I couldn't care less what your reaction is.

I have consistently mentioned goals and assists not goals alone, and of course these are the primary ways attackers are evaluated.

If you disagree, fine.

Don't need to worry about my reaction, just worry about how you evaluate players.

"goals and assists". Daniel James made more assists & goals than Pereira on the right but somehow you called James is not better than Pereira on the right. You have no consistency.

Look, you are the one who replied to me first. I wasn't replying to you. If you disagree with me fine, but just because I proved your point as invalid it doesn't mean you can called what I provided as "random, handpicked opinions". I listed Daniel James's good performance this season and at the same time you can also see how many people in this forum reacted positive on his performance in those games. Can't called it random and handpicked opinions when many people have the same view as mine.

Both deadwood and offer nothing. Get rid. How Lingard has made a career in football will baffle me till my last day. People say oh he makes runs. Last time I checked he was a footballer not a runner. Absolute waste of space and embarrassing for united to be associated with him and his off the pitch antics. Wouldn’t start/ get a game at any other top 10 club.

He has not been good most of his career but has had a particularly poor year this year.
Prior to this season, he was that player that would do nothing in most games then pop up with a strong performance every now and again. Those strong performances would happen in games against good opposition because his main strength is basically grafting. Andrea's on the other hand, I can't remember having a great game or being particularly good at anything. Long story short, they've both got to go. There's just better value out there for the wage they command.

Daniel James has a future at United as a squad player for the next couple of years at least. If he turns out like Pereira at Pereira’s age he’ll be sold. Pereira will go this summer if there’s a buyer I’m sure, it’s the right thing to do.

I haven’t seen any stats, but I suspect there’s a very good chance that Ederson has created more chances than Lingard.

I also suspect Pogba has created more chances since the restart than either of them have all season.

Both are blatantly not good enough.

This season Lingard has been much much worse than Pereira though.

Pereira put in a great assist for Martial against Chelsea on the opening day and again for Martial against Burnley over Christmas.

Lingard has contributed nothing

For me It's clear that they belong in League One. Maybe they can make it to a Championship bench, who knows. But I still don't know who's worse, It's a good fight.

Pereira: (Mine is 2.1 average rating)
2.215 minutes (1.463 in EPL, 319 in EFL Cup, 229 in FA Cup, 204 in Europa League)
2 goals (vs Brighton and LASK)
4 assists (vs Chelsea, Newcastle, Burnley and Tranmere)

Lingard: (1.6 average rating)
1.714 minutes (890 in EPL, 345 in Europa League, 289 in EFL Cup, 190 in FA Cup)
2 goals (vs Astana and Tranmere)
2 assists (vs Rochdale and Brugge)

Mates, we're all in agreement that neither Lingard nor Pereira -- nor James -- are NOT regular starting XI material for a Manchester United side which aspires to lift the PL trophy. That's not seriously debatable. What's debatable is whether those three are good enough to be productive squad players for us going into next season. After that, who knows?

Jesse Lingard. Not a chance -- must offload. Jesse had a moment but has been gash for too long now. And at the age of 27 he's already his peak. His head is all wrong and he needs to move on.

Andreas Pereira. Keep for another season. Andreas never worked out as a RW and if we bring in Sancho and with James and Greenwood on the squad we'd never see him there again, but he's actually decent in squad-filling role for us. No, he will never, ever cause Bruno or Pogba or Matic or Fred or McTominay any sleepless nights, but there will be times when we need to go deep into the squad and Ole can count on Andreas to provide a few minutes of sufficient quality. At some point Pereira will need to move on and we'll need top bring up youth players or find a gem in the transfer market, but that's not going to happen going into next season.

Daniel James. Keep for another season, no loan. James has been a pleasant surprise, despite some poor performances. He's definitely ineffective against low block opposition, but he can do a job for us as a squad player. As for the prospect of a loan, I don't really see the point of it. Let him train with us, watch and learn and evolve from a speed merchant to a player who can both hit you on pace as well as operate in tight spaces. He may not have it in him, but perhaps being around Bruno, Pogba, Sancho and Greenwood for an entire he can learn a few things.

Pereira can be a nice little sweetener for a deal on the continent for a better player. Doubt any of the top 30 clubs in Europe would take Lingard. He will end up at a newly promoted team only to be relegated. I doubt he would do too well in the Championship either.

I would agree on this, with a few remarks.

Lingard definitely not good enough, and at the age where you can't believe he will improve.

Pereira - to be honest this is his first season in United with regular first team chances. He was bad in majority of games, but had some good ones, especially Chelsea home (first game) and Liverpool home. He is good defensively which is pretty weird, had energy, and definitely can help when playing with better players around and when you don't expect miracles from him. He can't lead. With pretty small contract comparing with others, I would keep him around for a year or two, and than replace him with someone from Academy, or signing from abroad. We can't add 5 midfielders in the next few years and we will be without Lingard, Matic, Mata and potentialy Pogba in a year. I expect that he will be a squad player next year, replacing in some games Bruno and Pogba, and having some sub performances.

James - for me, he was excellent this year. Much better than I expected. Yes, he had bad games, in one period he was obviously not good enough, but I will take in account a few things that certainly did not help him. As we had a lot of injuries, James was fit all the time and had to play much more than anyone expected. He had terrible personal situation at the start of the season, that is very difficult to overcome. This is his second senior season, and the first one in PL against top opposition. So, honestly, I am not sure what you expected from the lad, but for me he was very good, very brave, willing to do anything for the team. Yes, I agree, he has flaws, especially against teams playing deep. He needs space to run and use pace, but he is 21, he can develop with good coaches around and to me, he looks like a kid willing to listen and do anything coaches want. So, lets see what he will bring to his game in the next 12 months, with coaches around, good preseason, and with some time to rest between games, and not playing every 3 days for 70+ minutes. Based on what he showed this year, I think he will stay with us for next 10 years and become really good player.

And beyond that, the attitude of Pereira and James has been fantastic, exactly what you want to see in United players. It hasn't worked out so far for Pereira as he had expected, but he did his duty filling roles that weren't suited him during a time when the squad was going through a difficult transition. James has done a job, maybe better than expected, but definitely not at the level we need, not yet at least. I can easily see James spending the next decade with us, provided he adds new dimensions to his game that can contribute against parked buses. Very few opponents will allow us the counterattacking space that James excels in. Where I can see a huge impact from James for now is late in games when we're up and the opposition has to go for it -- James tracks back well and can do damage on the counter.

But Lingard is the one who needs to go. His attitude is all wrong and his ridiculous clothing line sent to the rubbish bin. Much rather see Gomes be brought into the first team next season and let Lingard go, if anyone is willing to take him.

Klopp cleared out Liverpool from more than 30 players in last years, while United fans still discussing who's better, shit or the piss.
I was going to say... it’s like 14 pages of posts about Purina vs Pedigree, what’s better????

At the end of the day, it’s still dog food, and I wouldn’t eat either one.
