Andrey Santos | 2026/27 Performances

Tidy performance I thought. No-ones going 100% in a preseason friendly, but his touch, passing, positioning all looked good. Hopefully after 3 or 4 more games he'll get up to fitness and we'll see what he can do.

With this lad Tielemans and Mainoo I’m not sure why we need a marquee 4th cm. We’d be much better off putting it into the forward line.

We need a 4th man in midfield, going into a season where we expect to play 60+ games with only 3 players covering 2 positions would be stupid. 1 injury and we are basically fecked.

3 CMs for 2 positions?
No I’m not against a 4th cm, I just doubt we’re going to drop big money on one. We have 3 very good options, someone like Berge would be sufficient and enable us to strengthen elsewhere.

He was quite good, he's clearly got a "defensive midfielder" brain in a way he takes positions off the ball. A few good interceptions, likes a tackle too.

On the ball he's doing alright I guess. He seems to be forcing the ball through the center a bit too much for my liking. It already backfired a few times when we lost the ball. Just a note: his execution is quite good, but it's a difficult pass to take.

I'm quite happy with him as I think he suits most players quite well as he's all rounded defensive 8. Nothing spectacular is expected though, we have other players to do that I guess.

I like him. Somehow reminds me of Carrick in the sense he always looks forward, and keeps it simple. Decent defensively too, a big upgrade on Ugarte overall.

The dude knows how to “ sniff out danger” that’s a quality on its own. Always seems to be in the right place to stop the opponent shooting or well place to cut opt a pass. Thats one thing I’ve noticed about him the last two games.

And like everyone said always looking to pass the ball forward instead of the easy side ways pass. Like him so far he can only improve with better players around him.

Was only partly watching the match. Again I was just happy to see him finding forward passes like in the buildup for the first goal

Edit - I was actually thinking of the Dorgu post hit before the goal, rather than the first goal. Nice pass

Fair take

Caveat this is all first impression…

He’s very positive on the ball. Not looking for Hollywood passes but looks to break lines and really trusts himself to pass the ball exactly where his teammate will be able to do something with it, even if they’re in a tight space

I actually don’t think we’ve had someone like that for a while. Our CBs will break lines but need more time on the ball to do it. Santos seems to make his decisions fast, with accurate, short-range, progressive passing.
But for the price/ age and performance till now, I think he'll be a good signing for us.

He has the capabilities of being a deep lying playmaker and I am a bit surprised by his potential to find a pass in the middle of the pitch.

One callout though, is he going to be the more attacking of the 2 midfielders or the 6? Looking at the games, he seems more similar to Tielemens than Mainoo. If we are thinking of Kobbie as a 6, I am not sure he's the right profile especially at his current level.

Still missing a fast/ physical defensive beast to play in most PL games where you need more grit

Hes like Flash detergent, does the dirty job thay others dont. Good squad player, young enough to improve. Looking forward to seeing his role this season.

Thinking more Mr Muscle loves the jobs you hate

Small sample size and all but defensively his style is actually quite similar to Casemiro. He tackles, intercepts and cuts out balls quite square on and with both his feet facing the opposition player. A lot of good anticipation and jumping out at the right time. Can be quite high risk but positionally he's doing most of what you'd want your DM to do. Very orthodox.

On the ball, he has decent feet and seems like he can take a ball under some pressure, get it out and play it with some finesse. Quite secure and progressive with his passing but as I've mentioned before having watched quite a few all touch compilations, he does favour a some high(er) risk first touch passes where the receiving player has to be really aware of their surroundings. So far fairly promising.

He's already a better footballer than Casemiro and it'll be beyond doubt by the end of the year. He's not as rugged but he's a better forward passer and he also jumps in for set pieces. They are similar. Santos will eventually help make us a better overall unit. The big thing is if Bruno can step up yet again. If he does everyone else looks good

It’s funny seeing people talking about height like Tinder girls putting height requirements for guys.

Seems to read the play well enough to consistently get some interceptions, and some nice passes through the lines. I was impressed today. No shaky touches like the first half against Wrexham either.

People here have a weird obsession with age and height. 5’11 and you’re too short. 6ft and it’s perfect. 24-27 is the perfect age. 28 is too old…
Agree. Jude has a lot to answer for.......

First time I’ve really seen him but I thought he looked very impressive. I thought his defensive style appeared quite similar to Casa. It felt like he was everywhere defensively today! Some nice forward passing as well. I’d like to see more of him facing a high press as that will be the litmus test in the premier league.

Yeah, the caf has been fecking weird lately. People stressing out about Sesko because he’s put an extra inch on his chest.

There context I suppose, and the example of course is Lukaku who decided for his entirely selfish reasons to put on weight.

Then remember he could t even run for 20 mins!

However, Lukaku was a pathetic thin skinned, unprofessional player. Sesko looks like he has exactly the right mentality. One also assumes his programme is in lock step with the club.

His defensive awareness is something that will come in really handy this season. Also, his forward passing ability means that he will combine really well with a ground eating, athletic midfielder if we do get that.

Love the common sense that has gone behind this signing.

You don’t put someone like Santos with a player like (I assume you want) Baleba. We need complete players, not a complete set of attributes across 4 different players.

I think Santos can dovetail with either Tielemans or Mainoo, and that’s what we need to make work.

Lukaku weighed about 25kilos more than Sesko. Who the feck cares - come back to me when he’s running like a tug boat but he’s not even played yet

Indeed. He's going to lose speed. Have they ever seen a 100m sprinter? Putting on chest muscle can actually make you faster, as would the right muscle mass. Key is right muscle mass! Sprinters are many times as muscular as Sesko - you could argue that too much muscle makes you less agile, but look at gymnasts... or that it makes you less able to cover a bunch of miles, which is probably true... then again, for a forward, is that such an issue? I'd rather he makes the right runs than chase around all day - Haaland barely moves when he doesn't have to. Let's see how he fares, shall we before we conclude with things we have limited knowledge on, tbf.

It's been trending this way for a while now, the whole internet has.... I just ignore them
