Andrey Santos | 2026/27 Performances

I think we looked for Baleba alternatives throughout last season and picked this guy. And watching him today I think he did everything you'd expect Baleba to do. I think we're completely sorted for a proper DM option with him. Looks good enough to start if picked
He's soo different to Baleba though. Baleba carries, Santos passes. Baleba is more box to box. Baleba is also much quicker and stronger.

He’s awesome man. Could we push Bruno into the front three? Santos Mainoo and Teilemans behind Cunha Sesko and Bruno?

Nice to see he can pick a forward pass between the lines. Hopefully we have a really good midfielder on our hands here.

I think his passing is great and he’s composed as well so if he’s pressed he doesn’t shit the bed.

What’s surprised me the most about him is how good he is defensively, positionally he’s excellent and not afraid to get stuck into tackles. Hes a proper DM controller. Love him already.

If you consider Santos, Mainoo, Tielemans and Mount as our midfield options right now, I can't think of a single midfield 2 combination without Santos that could actually work.

That makes him one of our most important players right now, which is kind of ridiculous considering we have just signed him and he hasn't played a single competitive game for us yet.

That's why we need Tchouameni.
10: Bruno starter, Mount, Lacey as rotations
8: Tielemans starter, Kobbie, Mount as rotations
6: Tchouaméni starter, Santos, Kobbie as rotations.

That would put us in top 2 best midfields in the league, which is a massive upgrade from last season.
Just like we did to our forward line last season, can upgrade our midfield to top tier in one swoop.

Might have actually got a 22 year old demon for less than £50m

I maintain my stance that this guy was actually our first choice, and Ederson was the backup version. That’s why when Santos became available- we pulled the plug on Ederson.

Good pair with both Tielemans and Mainoo. Need another DM now for security. I'd be willing to try to find a gem than spending big now. Direct the money to LW and LB

Add a top LB and we're on to something. But happy to see that Santos is having such a positive impact and with CL there will be plenty of games for all, irrespective who we might still buy for our midfield

Santos can get forward as seen from his goals in France. But he's playing as a #6 next to Mason Mount so he needs to hold. If Baleba was here he'd be doing the same. Baleba might be more physical, although he was pushed off the ball by Tyler Fletcher so im pretty sure he's overrated from when I've seen him going to ground easily. Yes Santos is more of a passer than running with the ball which is better for his role so we made the right choice for sure.

93% pass accuracy today. Who was the last midfielder we got close to 90%? Carrick himself?

I wanted him as early as last season. He had a really impressive loan spell at Strasbourg, and we reportedly enquired about him then, but Chelsea weren't willing to sell. He then had a season where he never really got the chance to make his breakthrough.

Maresca didn't seem to fancy him, but whenever he did get opportunities under Rosenior, he looked really good before everything went off the rails for them.

I'm glad we've finally signed him. Obviously it's only pre-season, but he already looks like a class midfielder. He's so intelligent on the ball, always seems to make the right decision, and plays with real composure. I think he and Tielemans will be our first-choice midfield pairing this season.

In a market where players like Tonali go for £100m, and clubs are reportedly valuing Scott and Nmecha at similar figures, I'm genuinely impressed we've managed to pull these deals off. Both signings look like outstanding value for the fees involved.

I'd much rather have Santos and Tielemans for a combined £85m than spend that entire amount on M.Fernandes alone. And that's coming from someone who was one of the first to jump on the Fernandes bandwagon this summer.

Properly looking forward to the season with him. We might just have landed the right player, for much less money than the wrong players would have cost us.

A midfield selection of Bruno, Baleba, Kobbie, Santos, Tielmans, Mount would be incredible and in my view one of the best in the league.

He looks fantastic. Doesn’t seem to do anything flashy and always in the right position. Gets the ball then somehow finds the gap to put a good ball through and we are just bounce passing it about.

Be intrigued to see this set up with Bruno as he isn’t the best back to goal

Why spend money to downgrade an already good selection on someone as shite as baleba

Glazers + "Ugarte's like a new signing when he gets back!"

I like his calmness and ability to find a pass even when pressed. Unlike the way he sits deep as his boarder roams forward. I was confused like everyone else here when we sogned him for 48m.the jury is still out, but these few games and a watch of his past performances at Chelsea have really shifted my mindset. Weirdly, I trust the recruitment team these days. I mean, heaven cost 1m, that is just insane. Lammens was 20m, unknown and did well. Happy to see how this one pans out. So far, so good.

Pass accuracy from last season's PL (as per Statsmuse).

Santos - 90.1%
Mainoo - 89.5%
Tielemans - 84.6%
Ugarte - 84.6%
Casemiro - 81.9%

I'd say Mainoo counts as close just last season.

He's not the flashy type but he is one of those rare players that seems to do all the small things right and hardley ever make a mistake.

For me, the midfield duo Santos/Mount has been the best part of the team in every game so far this preseason. As unimportant as these games are, I would still not be surprised if they start against Hull.

Mainoo a hell of a lot safer though. Based on pre season, it seems Santos is great as firing it forward into the attackers feet

Matter of time until Mount gets injured. I hope that's not why we don't seem to be in for a 3rd midfielder.

I wonder why still three of every four MM post just states he’s going to get injured. I mean, we all believe that to be most likeley, and it’s been said like a hundeed thousand times. You can’t be a poster in here not being aware of that, surely. It just seems so needless to quack on about endlessly.

I don’t know what makes it seem to you we’re not in for a 5th midfielder? There’s been talk about for ages, recent days Tschouameni, Camavinga, Kone and now suddenly Lewis-Skelly (not that I believe that).

He is Casemiro but younger, although not quite as good with his reading of the game.

It’s such a messy stat though. He bucks the trend because he plays forward a lot. But a really safe unadventurous midfielder could have a higher percentage.

I think with all these stats they have to be seen in conjunction. Anderson excelled in progressive passes last season, but he played forward Forest where they were always a deep block and he had space to pass forward.

I think you need to look at pass completion percentage, passes under pressure, forward passes, progressive passes, the third within which these passes happen (it’s different punching it from the 1st to 2nd third compared to 2nd to 3rd). And essentially build a matrix based on all of those combined.

Yeah, it’s been refreshing to observe.

Don't need to watch anymore. He is our best midfield signing since Michael Carrick.

Ligue 1 Team of the Year player and one of the best Brazilian CM talents does well, I am shocked! Going to be interesting to quote all those "Chelsea bench warmer, shit player" posters after his inevitable, very good PL season with us.
Feck yeah. Glad he’s settling in well and impressing. We tried to get him with the Garnacho deal. So finally got him.

Yeah I wanted Fernandes but the wage and transfer fees was just insane.
