Levy or himself?
Straight in. Good work.

I have no sympathy for a player that is so poor when he has had countless opportunities and is clearly happy to sit there on good money. Has shown no motivation to leave a club where the manager has had enough of his wastefulness and make a success of himself elsewhere.

He does really look like one of my mates though.

Precisely, and he was known to have similar issues before he made his breakthrough at Spurs, where he had similar attitude issues and I believe he cut a loan he had at a club short due to thinking he was too good to be there (Leeds United).

There have always been question marks over his attitude as a professional footballer.

Am I missing something? Doesn't he want to leave but Levy won't let him for less than £14m?

I'm not sure that is correct (the fee), however I can't see any reason that his career has gone south at Spurs in the first place other than a lack of application.

Also with the money being thrown around in the prem these days I think he'll end up going for around 10-12 mil, looking good initially(as unlike most I think he is a talented footballer who's attitude lets him down) and then fading after about 6-12 month or so at his new club.

According to the Guardian Spurs rejected a 10m bid from Newcastle which is silly, that fee is about right for a player that clearly isn't wanted by Pochettino.

It doesn't seem that long ago that he was the future of Spurs and England.

Showing up late for training and not showing up at all, whilst picking rows with your manager is a sure fire way to put an end to that. Also, thinking you've made it after scoring a goal for England and then picking a fight on Twitter with Paul Merson adds to that

Remember when we tried to sign him;)

Worked out well for us.
This is what I was going to reference

I remember that in the Moyes January. I was in Canterbury and saw a Sun newspaper in a shop window with a big back page spread on United trying to sign Andros Townsend.

Just show's how desperate we were:annoyed:

A few respected journalists said it was real too, just left it too late and negotiating with Levy isn't easy at the best of times:lol:

He's known for his dedication and hard work. He just doesn't fit Pochetinnos style and was unlucky with injuries. But his attitude and professionalism are first class and he's a nice guy. He had an argument with a coach during a post match warm down and that's about it. He apologised and pushed to play in the U21's.

He will make a very good signing for teams looking to play with width from their attacking players. Pochetinnos likes width to come from the full backs.

Whoever signs will get pretty much the opposite of the kind of character some in this thread are making him out to be. His success or failure will have nothing to do with lack of application. His biggest crime is that he's devastated that he hasn't made it at Spurs, which was the cause of the outburst when he had the row with the coach. He wa so desperate to get a chance that night and it didn't come and it was the moment he realised he wa going to have to leave the club he'd been at since he was a kid.

My father in law knows Troy Townsend.

As it happens, I met Townsend in 2013 at the Xbox One launch event in London. I spent a lot of time with him and his buddies in the hotel, before he had to go out and play someone at Fifa. He came across a very good guy to be honest and down to earth. His friends were the opposite, cocky little fackers. Microsoft gave everyone in the VIP section an Xbox One and like 10 or so games for free to go home with. One of Townsend's friends wanted 3 Xbox's to himself!

waiting for everyone else to catch up!!
The player wants to leave, Spurs dont want to use the player yet they are demanding £14 M from any potential buyers.
I think his main problem is that it appears he won't be bullied into simply joining whoever stumps up that fee. Levy is known for playing hardball, and is often too stubborn to be reasonable. 2 years ago, £14m would have been about right considering AT's profile at that time. However, less gametime, injuries and his peak form becoming a distant and ever more blurry memory, his stock is lower now than at any time since.

A reasonable man would simply find a compromise and do what's best for both parties and move on. Unfortunately for AT, he doesn't appear to be dealing with a reasonable man, and in the meantime it's just a pointless waste of time and energy for everyone until the inevitable compromise that finally satisfies Levy's ego is reached.

Even the Paul Merson 'twitter clash' (god what has the world come to?) was nothing. If anything, it was Merson being the arse. Townsend said nothing untoward.

It's probably Levy's stubbornness that is keep Adebayor from moving away from Spurs too.

He's not actually that good anyway and if Newcastle's bid of £10m was their first offer then there's no real surprise it was rejected. If they opened with that Levy will reckon he can get a few extra £m out of them.

I would have to take your word for the above as my Totenham supporting mates think differently and say that the argument with the fitness coach was actually about his application, but they might be wrong of course and it could be something else.

Nope, he has shown that there is talent there on more than a few occasions. Not a stellar talent but on his day he can be a handful and could be very good in a direct attacking side.

Ah, OK then I'd say that's a little off, but with the money floating around the prem at the moment I wouldn't be surprised if he goes for more than 10 mil.

He's been a fantastic signing for Newcastle. He should go to the Euro's. He's always been effective at international level, but England fans have never really fully accepted him as he wasn't playing well for Spurs. But Newcastles style suits him, as Englands does. What is the point on taking bigger name players like Sterling, when Townsend has proven he's well suited to international football and is now showing that form at club level? But I bet Sterling and Lallana will be picked ahead of him. Technically they are both miles ahead of Townsend, but when it comes down to simply who is the most effective in an England shirt and who has the best chance of doing something that will win us games at the Euros, Townsend has demonstrated it's him. Since he's been at Newcastle and played with the freedom he gets for England he' scored 4 and made 2 assists in 909 mins.

He really has been a great signing for Newcastle and it's great to see him doing well. Been a bit of an issue for me because I would like to see both Andros and Jermaine at Sunderland stay up.

You're right about Newcastle's style suiting him more so than Spurs, he's a very individual player who only thinks forward, he had lots of chances at Spurs but probably tried too hard and ended up playing for himself and less for the team.

Not sure where the bad attitude bit comes from, he had one spat with a fitness coach, apologised and got on with it. He always comes across as a good lad actually, would really like to see him go on and have a good career.

Not long ago, he was being touted as a big player for Spurs and England, but he seems to have fallen foul of Pochettino - not committing to the style of play/tough fitness regime - and lost his way, so maybe Newcastle is a chance for him to rebuild his career, wouldn't be surprised if he moves on from Newcastle to a better side sooner rather than later, whether they stay up or not.
