Did really well in todays game.....for the 3mins 30seconds he was on the pitch. The little I have seen of all the youngsters Gomes does appear the most ready to me, its just a question of where you play him as he seems to me to be another number 10, decent back up on the right

I don't know if he's quite ready for the number 10 role, he can be a bit passive and has a bit of a habit of letting the game come to him rather than vice versa. If he took the game to the other team consistently the sky's the limit, he'd be a nightmare for defenders due to his agility and low centre of gravity.

Problem is we dont and havent for a long time had the number 10 role, even though we have had so many number 10s. I think he is ready for a spot on the bench as I do Perreira. Both neat, tidy, technically very good and seem intelligent. They seem further developed thatn the arguably more talented Chong and Greenwood from the little I have seen of them

Struggled physically in the few U23 matches I watched last year. Seems to be over that now.

If all goes to plan how good can he be? And what player would you most liken him to?

He is a lovely player, don't know if his height and physicality will hold him back from getting into his team, But still only 18 and looks the part.

Good lad. This season seems to be going pretty well for him so far. Great to see as he's got terrific ability and is fun to watch when he's putting it together.

Would you say he has the same impact on games? It's one of the major criticisms I see of him.
He has great close control like a Spanish player but he isn't really like Isco all that much in my opinion. He doesn't hold on to the ball as much as Isco for a start and can't shield as well as him. He scores a lot more and is a dead ball specialist. Gomes takes corners and free kicks. Gomes reminds me of a young Scholes with his knack of following into the box and scoring, look at his goal against Fulham a bit further up the thread.

Yeah, Gomes is definitely his own player. He is a bit like Scholes in regards to scoring. He's also like Scholes in his short passing and helping build from the back. However, Scholes is a superior long range distributor which hinders Gomes' ability to be like Scholes in the middle of the park if we ever thought about moving him back there.

He's like a mix of Iniesta and young Scholes. With Gomes technique, I would like to see him get better at protecting the ball and at the same time start utilizing his close control and technique in the box more often. His level of technique is not seen often so he should try and push the limits of seeing what he can do in the box to disrupt the defensive shape of teams.

I think that will help with his ability to impact games on a more consistent basis. He's rather passive right now.

I think that's a fairly recent issue with, as others have said, the step up in physicality he's experienced. He's seemed far more combative in recent matches though, so I think it's just a case of him adjusting and improving his usage of his body in duels.

He already looks way better this season than his few appearances for the u23s last season. He's still drifted in and out and DJ has been our best player but our whole team is setup terribly and drifts in and out with barely any cohesion so it isn't Angel's fault. He'll be a slow burner, he just needs time to adapt to more physical play and eventually senior football.

Particularly like how sharp he was in the tackle. Always knew he was class on the ball but great to see him developing some grit in his game.
It's that grit that'll take him to the next level. I'm glad we aren't rushing him. He's going to be a real gem in a few years time.

Yeah Gomes was the best player on the pitch. Butt likes him playing deeper and I think he mentioned that he sees Scholes in Gomes. I think he was only dispossessed once, and Juve could not get the ball off him. Gomes does a good job of knowing when to pass the ball back when a defender is rushing to press him, which signals the opposition defenders that there is no point in pressing him. This is partly why he's able to buy his teammates and himself more time on the ball.

I’ve noticed he’s really been forcing himself into games, one of my reservations about him was that he could be passive in matches but he’s really been imposing himself in every game recently.

He was brilliant today, MOTM for me.
Didn't see it myself, just saw that highlight video, but from that he looks ridiculous. His passing and dribbling in close quarters look outstanding.

Wow. How effortless did that all look? Beautiful to watch.

Looked great in that clip. For those that watch him often, how far off the first team squad is he?

Great highlight reel. Looks like a young Modric. Not seen that much of him. He’s small, but looks like he can take care of himself and likes a tackle.

He absolutely owned that midfield. Notice how the two Juve players tried to press him at around 15 seconds and he left both for dead. They didn't seem to want to press him after that...

Suprised to see him play that role. They trying to change his game?

Was sensational even with his talent level.
Think the idea behind it is he's such a good play maker it helps him get more involved in matches and benefits the team, he really suits the role as well. He isn't usually the furthest midfielder when Garner's in the team, he plays a bit more advanced but did well there today.

I've noticed he keeps getting the armband at different levels.
