I don't know if he's quite ready for the number 10 role, he can be a bit passive and has a bit of a habit of letting the game come to him rather than vice versa. If he took the game to the other team consistently the sky's the limit, he'd be a nightmare for defenders due to his agility and low centre of gravity.Did really well in todays game.....for the 3mins 30seconds he was on the pitch. The little I have seen of all the youngsters Gomes does appear the most ready to me, its just a question of where you play him as he seems to me to be another number 10, decent back up on the right
Problem is we dont and havent for a long time had the number 10 role, even though we have had so many number 10s. I think he is ready for a spot on the bench as I do Perreira. Both neat, tidy, technically very good and seem intelligent. They seem further developed thatn the arguably more talented Chong and Greenwood from the little I have seen of themI don't know if he's quite ready for the number 10 role, he can be a bit passive and has a bit of a habit of letting the game come to him rather than vice versa. Iniesta maybe.more flair currently and less retention but that will come with time.If all goes to plan how good can he be? And what player would you most liken him to?

Was Chong playing for the Netherlands?Scored his first England u19 goal in a 4-1 win over Holland.
I don't think so. Think he's with their u20s. It seems to be one of those England games behind closed doors with zero coverage. Was Chong playing for the Netherlands?
Probably the closest comparison so far.Isco.
Would you say he has the same impact on games? It's one of the major criticisms I see of him.Isco.
He has great close control like a Spanish player but he isn't really like Isco all that much in my opinion. He doesn't hold on to the ball as much as Isco for a start and can't shield as well as him. He scores a lot more and is a dead ball specialist. Gomes takes corners and free kicks. Gomes reminds me of a young Scholes with his knack of following into the box and scoring, look at his goal against Fulham a bit further up the thread.Would you say he has the same impact on games? GomesOf Gomes or Isco?
Yeah, Gomes is definitely his own player. He is a bit like Scholes in regards to scoring. He's also like Scholes in his short passing and helping build from the back. However, Scholes is a superior long range distributor which hinders Gomes' ability to be like Scholes in the middle of the park if we ever thought about moving him back there. He has great close control like a Spanish player but he isn't really like Isco all that much in my opinion. I think that's a fairly recent issue with, as others have said, the step up in physicality he's experienced. He's seemed far more combative in recent matches though, so I think it's just a case of him adjusting and improving his usage of his body in duels.Gomes

Particularly like how sharp he was in the tackle. Always knew he was class on the ball but great to see him developing some grit in his game.
It's that grit that'll take him to the next level. I'm glad we aren't rushing him. He's going to be a real gem in a few years time.Tweet

He was brilliant today, MOTM for me.Looking phenomenal in that performance.
I’ve noticed he’s really been forcing himself into games, one of my reservations about him was that he could be passive in matches but he’s really been imposing himself in every game recently. It's that grit that'll take him to the next level. Didn't see it myself, just saw that highlight video, but from that he looks ridiculous. His passing and dribbling in close quarters look outstanding. He was brilliant today, MOTM for me.
Wow. How effortless did that all look? Beautiful to watch.Tweet

He absolutely owned that midfield. Notice how the two Juve players tried to press him at around 15 seconds and he left both for dead. They didn't seem to want to press him after that...I’ve noticed he’s really been forcing himself into games, one of my reservations about him was that he could be passive in matches but he’s really been imposing himself in every game recently.
Think the idea behind it is he's such a good play maker it helps him get more involved in matches and benefits the team, he really suits the role as well. He isn't usually the furthest midfielder when Garner's in the team, he plays a bit more advanced but did well there today.Suprised to see him play that role. They trying to change his game?
Was sensational even with his talent level.
