How likely are we to sign this guy? Any solid links yet or the usual rumours? Would be a great buy for £50million or so.

that's what caught my attention at first....two completely opposite type of players and it goes away from Ruben said about the need for more athletic players in the middle
I mean it's ben jacobs and some other guy merely speculating that he's being monitored, this isn't a transfer that's going to happen from this news

He's just probably on our list of midfielders as options

Jacobs is a grifter like Indy. Knows nothing and throws sht at the wall hoping to stick. None of this Stiller stuff is remotely true

Hopefully, that at least would be some kind of planning

I think it's clear we've done a lot of ground work with Baleba, so I'm inclined to give the recruitment team some credit based of this window.
so will everyone else be in for him next summer....wouldn't be surprised if it were madrid, united, city battling for his signature next summer

Could say the same about Cunha this season. He even had a release clause. We'd have to have another season like the last to put Baleba off - we've got the Cameroon lads!

We never buy German players for whatever reason, so I don’t see Cyrano de Bergerac here a goer.

No comparison with him and Indy. He’s an actual journalist.

As much as I’d like to, as I think he looks the part, I ain’t getting excited. Feels like media just throwing our name just because things have gone quiet.

I couldnt get a measure from his highlights. What would he bring to midfield?

Is it safe to assume that most opponents will park the bus and try to hit us on the counter or take their set pieces seriously, as Arsenal did against us over the weekend? If so, I lean toward less of a destroyer and more toward a midfielder who can defend but is a brilliant passer. With Baleba beyond our reach until next season, I'd like us to bring in a passing midfielder who can defend to rotate with Casemiro and Ugarte, depending on the opponent and the game situation.

"He dictates play, is a world class passer, a progression monster who is press resistant & also anticipates the game well defensively & is comfortable winning duels. If you're not signing Adam Wharton & think that you don't have a chance to do so, this is the player that you sign. While it would be a flip in priorities from a Baleba-profile, he's an incredibly complete central midfielder."

Let's see if anyone else mentions him in coming days

Defensive game?
Not great, not terrible. He's a bit of a Pirlo (I think he's more similar to him than to his hero Kroos) as he always plays with a more defensive physical partner. He's smart, tactically astute and way more reliable in possession than Bruno but he's not that athletic. He's going to be great next to, say, Baleba or someone similar but we don't have anyone like that (stylistically — Ugarte but it doesn't look like he's up for it).

Whether this is a goer or not, I'm interested to see how much money Bundesliga clubs have taken from PL teams once this window closes.

Steady on, Dyatlov.

This is the sort of profile I have been desperate for us to target for ages.

The sort of midfielder we don't tend to sign. The sort of midfielder teams who want to dominate later rounds of UCL games must have. We should get him while we can Baleba next summer. What a team we'll be building.

€36.5m release clause but Stuttgart can buyout for €2m

If this is happening I would love this but I am not getting my hopes up. He is a brilliant player and I somehow have a feeling he will end up at Madrid or Bayern but hope our guys are on their game.

I'm already thinking of our Wharton-Baleba midfield next summer. So is Stiller a Wharton alternative? What is his long range passing like?

Maybe Wharton is Stiller alternative, who knows

I think if we have the choice we're looking for Premier League adapted players, sure bets, and him being English certainly helps too. He will just cost a lot more.

Maybe we'll end up with Wharton Baleba and Stiller next summer. We can all dream.

The little I've seen of him would make me pretty worried about this, if it were true.

There's something about his style of play which seems half-way between Mount and Ugarte, and I don't mean the best aspects of each. I mean he seems an average of their attributes, style and ability in a manner that suggests he wouldn't be a hit at United.

He seems to combine the fancy looking, but too often powder-puff, ball use of Mount, but with the lack of pace and slight clumsiness of an Ugarte that means his second touch is often a tackle because someone quicker is about to dispossess him.

On top of his lack of pace, his defensive stats look really poor. I don't see how this would make sense at all and fit next to a Bruno.

It would feel like a weird signing for the squad right now.

He doesn't look like a midfield partner for Bruno at all. An alternative for Bruno isn't our priority given he plays every minute of every game. Stiller would also spell the end of Mainoo's minutes.

He looks like the sort of player who will look great in a Barcelona possession based 3 man midfield. Sceptical if he's the right profile for our 2 man midfield in the most physically demanding league - if you want to build an optimal team in this system you really want both midfielders to be athletes.

Finding players who have the physical attributes to be suited to a 2 man midfield at PL level whilst also being good technically is tough though.
